Covid-19 has changed our world completely, from forcing us into lockdown, to having everyone wear masks. But how would the leaders and citizens of Panem face this pandemic?

Whatever happens in the Arena honestly wouldn’t matter. There’s no point in taking anti COVID measures in the arena since most of the tributes will die in there. Only 1 of them will survive anyways.

The people in the poorer districts would probably have a higher death toll due to them being more malnourished.

Snow would invest more money and resources in richer disticts. They would not cancel the hunger games. A positive tribute from a poorer district might be executed.

I believe the closest thing would be the Harvest Festival which is mentioned in Catching Fire, and it takes place around the same time as the victory tour
Story Diver in the beginning of the first book when katniss and gale are hunting to get food for the reaping celebrations, I think katniss says something along the lines of,”everything would be perfect if this were an actual holiday.” Although it’s not explicitly stated, I kind of took that to mean that there are other holidays in panem besides the reaping that are celebrated and actually enjoyed by the people in the districts.

Also, in the prequel, I think there’s a mention of December 15th being National Heroes day or something like that.

He would probs just have some way to make her go crazy. Like idk have weekly executions of innocent people. More hungergames. Attack 13 more often or something idk. Doesnt seem like the person to just be "aight thats it". He would try to lure her out.

A lot of these have been done, but I like the ideas for the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes
Lutteo Forever Story Diver has said that she won’t be doing TBOSAS until a movie comes out. Although, I would like to see some of these that haven’t been done yet

The virus is impacting my life quite a bit. My parents are care workers and my brother works in retail. I am a student who has many exams on the way. Luckily I wasnt the mass amount of students at the uk who got horrible and mean grades, I am too young for that so I have to sit those exams. It's been so difficult in my town mainly as no one thinks it's a real deadly virus when it really is. When I went to the beach for a week and for a day (two different beaches) everyone acted like it doesnt exist. I urge everyone to wear a mask when they can. If you're going to the beach please wear a mask while walking around and in arcades and shops.

@@rebeccacummings6697 that's bullsh*t the sun does not kill the virus. The youngest death in the uk is around 6 years old. There are actually 2 viruses going around, covid and Kawasaki. It mainly impacts children so if a child has covid then catches Kawasaki they could easily die

Emily Foster look at the facts the ozone layer is not strong enough to protect viruses or germs or bacteria from the UV rays but it’s strong enough to protect us from it and light go’s through you so it would kill the virus in a matter of hours

I think if a tribute was reaped and had the virus they would probably still be forced into the arena to add another exciting event in the games because the tributes would have to try not catch it or survive until they are the last one

I meant quarantine at the end lmao
What could happen is that tributes that are Reaped are put into 2-week quarantines in their districts before being shipped to the Capitol and beginning training, it would delay the games, but it would preserve the "sanctity and honor" of being Reaped. They'd also probably do this for every tribute to make it fair (and not waste resources on testing district citizens)

Story diver, I have a question: Do Mentors stay up 24/7? Because some of the gifts Katniss and Peeta got were in the night or very early in the morning. I know in the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes the mentors go home at night, but I don’t think mentors in some of the more recent games would do that. I would assume that Caesar Flickerman and Claudius Templesmith probably do go to sleep and do a “what did we miss” segment for the district and Capitol citizens who would go to sleep as well. Just a question that might be a cool video idea! Love the content! ❤️

District 13 did have an epidemic which wiped out a lot of younger residents and rendered a lot of people infertile. It was mentioned by Prim in Mockingjay

@@rebeccacummings6697 That wouldn’t be enough to kill the virus. Maybe it would kill it before it entered your body, if it was on your hands, say, and you touched your nose or mouth, I don’t know if UV light kills viruses or not. But viruses, once they infect you, live in your cells. They would not be in direct sunlight and would not be killed, so maybe it would make it slightly less contagious, as it would be killed before it could live on those outside surfaces for long, but wouldn’t wipe it out without any other measures. After all, Spain, one of the sunniest countries in Europe, was hit the worst in Europe. And the US tends to be kinda sunny (idk I’m British. Our standards for ‘sunny’ are ‘not hailing/raining/thuderstorming/flooding’). And it’s not like there’s no sun in the rest of the world, and... let’s just say... Covid is still a thing...

Because there is so little travel between the districts I don't think that a virus would spread very easily across the entire country. It could cause a lot of harm in one of the poorer districts though as they don't have access to proper healthcare or enough nutritious food. The poorer districts would also probably not be allowed to stop working.

@@rebeccacummings6697 Well it would probably depend on what kind of virus we're talking about. Also about the sun killing viruses; in district 12 they work in coal mines so not much sun during working hours.
A tribute with the virus could potentially make the games more interesting 🤔

I think snow and the capitol would lean into that “hope” thing and if a tribute was tested positive, the capitol would make a big show of curing them, and then throwing them into the arena.

how do careers determine who will volunteer at the reaping? is it just whoever raises their hand first or is it more organized? i was thinking along the lines of the career academies hold reapings of their own to determine who will volunteer and the official reaping for the games

I watch this guy (can’t remember the channel name) his idea is that everyone who volunteers will go into an ‘arena’ and they have what he calls tails, you have to steal every person’s “tail” and whoever ends with at least one tail gets to be the tribute :D

Couldn't the Capital treat it as just another twist/danger the tributes have to contend with?
I feel like in the capitol, people would be fine because with their science, they could find a vaccine. If they did, they would probably force people to get the vaccine in the districts. But... If let's say it starts in District 5, they would shut down that district. They might work on a vaccine for all of Pamem

What if the pandemic happened around the time of the hunger games?
If it was in the capitol, nothing would really change. But if it was from one of the districts, is it possible that the district might be excluded from the hunger games that year? But this comes with certain problems, especially if it was started in one of the poorer districts. Maybe the district would try to keep the pandemic around so they don’t have to participate for a year? Just a little thought I had.

Hi Story Diver! I LOVE your hunger games videos and had a possible theory concerning this video.
Do you think it might be possible that the capitol would use the pandemic as part of the hunger games? If they wanted to try and make light of the entire pandemic thing and make the hunger games more interesting and "entertaining" they could use the pandemic as an added layer of drama and intrigue in the games. For instance, they would do the reaping (most likely social distanced as you proposed) and originally test all the tributes to make sure none of them had the virus in order to be able to keep all the pomp and circumstance surrounding the games the same, (assuming the capitol hasn't been affected). But right before putting the tributes in the arena they could infect one/a few tributes with the virus. They might do this by making the tribute spend a large amount of time in tight quarters with an infected person on the first day of the games before they enter the arena. Another option is with Panem's technological advancements, they might have found a way to extract the virus from an infected person to then transfer the virus to the tributes. They could even infect all the tributes if they wanted to so not only were the tributes fighting themselves they were also fighting a deadly virus simultaneously. It would add to the whole 'the fittest survive' vibe of the games. Personally I see this arena being an old, abandoned, creepy hospital that is completely shut off from the outside. To add even more of a chill factor to the games, the game master could have people infected by the virus (most likely from the less respected districts like 10,11, and 12) held in locked rooms with small windows or something like that inside the hospital. This would be very uncommon because outside citizens are not used as part of the games but in this case it would give the capitol a place to put the infected citizens, mess with the tributes of 10,11, and 12 emotionally to be able to see but not get to or help those citizens suffering from their district, and mess with all the tributes minds to see what the virus can do to people. The victor of this hunger games would be rushed out of the arena and would be instantly quarantined by 2-3 weeks. Hopefully by this point with their technology Panem doctors would have a vaccine or cure to the virus which they would give to victor. I am soooo incredibly sorry for how long this comment is. (Did not intend it to be this long). Again I love your videos and hope to watch more soon!

Here in Spain everybody wears masks, but still there are more cases than in any other European country 😭
District 13 actually had a pox outbreak that killed several people a few years before the second rebellion started. Of course pox is a more highly transmissible disease with an incomparable mortality rate. Katniss also expresses that there aren’t many older people in her district because of starvation, so there may not even be much motivation if any to take measures to protect a non-existent population. Another factor is how advanced medicine is in Panem. They were able to save Peeta, who was in an advanced stage of sepsis due to blood poisoning from his sword wound with a balm after just a couple hours (which could take days or weeks of IV antibiotic treatment today). I can see them having a definitive treatment and even a vaccine within days or weeks of the initial onset, rendering it not a problem.

What if Katniss had been born and raised to be a Career Tribute?
How might this change her personality and the way others perceive her?
Would she be as ruthless and charming as Kato, Clove, Marvel & Glimmer?
Would she be more like Finnick? Embracing the role but secretly hating it.
Or would she be an Oddball type that we've never seen before? A Career who never bought into the propaganda or embraced the role, but could also be more pragmatic than the other Careers.
Regardless, there's a solid chance she would have a higher body count, which could affect how the public sees her.

District 13 and CoV 2019: An underground facility like NORAD or District 13 needs filters like those used in hospitals or passenger aircraft everywhere in the ventilation system, and needs to detect patients early. Otherwise, the whole facility will be infected quickly. People can always bring in something they picked up from rodents or bats during a stay in the outdoors, or maintanance workers might after cleaning out air inlets or antennae that squirrels had filled up with acorns. Dive safely, and stay healthy.

I could see the capital self isolated the tributes for 2 weeks (basically imprisoning them in their district or the capital holding cells or something) before the training and all the pre games spectacle. If someone dies they just die and then hold another reaping to replace the tribute. If they had covid and were damaged I think they’d just put them in the games
I'm pretty sure everyone in Panem would wear different colored/patterns depending on their district. Example, district 1: yellow, district 2: Red, District 3: Green, etc..
I think the reaping could be a bit sooner than usual so the positive tributes have time to recover, if they even get time for that. I mean nearly all of them die anyway so maybe the capitol maybe just puts the tributes, mentors, coaches,... in isolation and everything stays the same

I think the only reason the Capitol would try to help the poorer districts or the districts that are not as important is so they can have healthy-ish kids for the Hunger Games. I think that if the Hunger Games didn't exist, the Capitol wouldn't even care about those districts and would probably just try to avoid coming into contact with them.
Imagine that happens in district 11 in the harvest season and no one will be able to eat crops
A Pandemic would not really be a problem in panem considering their advanced technology in the field of biology and also the separation of the districts means it is really hard for a virus to infect a positive person to another.

In Mockingjay, it states that district 13 has a pox epidemic, and half of the population died or became infertile, so whatever they implemented obviously wasn't highly effective considering so many people died.
Maybe panem is in a water world. And to travel to an arena would be just visiting a dome in the world

OMG I love your channel! The content is great, and this is such an interesting topic! I can relate to all this, in my country we even had curfew in March and April, and we still wear masks. However, many people do wear masks as a fashion accessory, so it is a bit easier ehen the mask is nice :)
By the way, the posters and all the other decor is so nice. I love the Slytherin poster, I think it would be interesting to see a video about why Slytherin has a bad reputation, and why wizards from Slytherin are considered to be evil...

Are sports like football and athletics prohibited cuz you can technically train for the hunger games?
Peacekeepers could spread the virus throughout Panem. Let’s say the pandemic starts in District 2, someone could become a peacekeeper and spread it to an outline district and another peacekeeper from that district could become a peacekeeper in another district, etc.
As stated in the video, peacekeepers would be health tested before moving around the country, eliminating that possibility
They might have people with COVID 19 to fight in the hunger games? And then capital citizens would quarantine.
