Out of the various Native American combatants in fighting games (Nightwolf, T. Hawk, Chief Thunder, Wolf Hawkfield, Julia, etc.), Nightwolf had always seemed the most respectful and fleshed out. Also, does anyone know if Wes Studi was brought in for Nightwolf’s facial model in MK11? Because, damn, it is definitely similar to Studi if not. Great list, as always, Nick.
I say Chief Thunder is my favorite design wise in the KI 2013 version. If only that game got more backing to flesh out the characters and stories more. His brother Eagle was pretty cool design wise well.
Fun fact: Nightwolf and Sindel has always appears in the same games as playable characters together

What I love the most of Nightwolf is that he is not just the Token representation character, in MK9 he was Raiden's right hand(which made a lot of sense) and saved the surviving fighters from Sindel
Also, what if a ranking or top 10 of Fatalities that doesn't make sense in certain characters?
Like ripping Cyrax's arms, Skarlet fatalities on the cyber ninjas, Kotal or Mileena's fatalities on Alien, Hotaru's fatality on Havik
I love love love Nightwolf, they did such a fantastic job with him in 11. I totally agree with your rankings - another great video.
Mk9 was the best thing to happen to his character and mk11 made it even better.
Nightwolf was the first fighter I actually beat a mortal kombat with: spamming the shoulder tackle against onaga. So he’ll always hold a special place in my heart
Nightwolf had the biggest glowup in MK9, don’t let the Stryker fanboys tell you otherwise. Defeating a superpowered Sindel and Throwing Noob Saibot into the soulnado are memorable scenes.
The issues people have with it is that it should not have been Nightwolf. Sub-Zero should be the one to take out Noob Saibot. And Kitana should have been the one to take out Sindel(and free her from her MIND CONTROL). Want to know what would’ve been cool for Nightwolf? If he was the one take out the two Shokan from Sub-Zero’s chapter.

Nightwolf is a kool character, but most of his finishers are lackluster, anyway, this is my thoughts about the list:
8- Yeah... saw it coming.
7- No. 8 remix... kinda? very disapointing for MK9.
6- Saw that coming too, 3D era Nightwolf was bad in terms of finishers.
5- I agree, I feel it miss something, but at least is way much better than the 3D era and that remix from MK9.
4- Well, perhaps his best prior to MK9 and 11... despite how (kinda) goofy it looks.
3- Finally Nightwolf got a great finisher, now that's how they make justice to him.
2- No. 4 but this time has more logic of how it happens.
1- While I prefeer No. 3 more for his MK11 finishers, I can't deny the fact of how gruesome it is and (again) makes justice to Nightwolf.
I wonder who's the next character for a list.
I am obsessed with native American characters. no matter in movies or games. They always have unique things to offer. I agree some of Nightwolf's fatalities have been lackluster but I still love that "little of the top" fatality because I love axe and throwing it. That fatality was one of the most creative ways of decapitation in mk9. Making your opponent feel the pain in their skull by throwing the first axe and decapitating them by throwing the second. That is badass. But his "war ritual" fatality is by far the best and goriest. It contains the axe toss as well. This time with two hands just like deception. I loved that. Nightwolf is my most favorite character in the world of video games. I obsessed with him. Thanks for this awesome video.
The only improvement I can suggest for Nightwolf's Komotose finisher is starting with summoning Hana the eagle or Kira the wolf for a power boost. After he gets powered up, his rhino charge would come next for a devastating impact on his opponent by breaking their ribs and possibly their spine. Lastly, he uses that impact to hoist his opponent up where Komo the bear comes up and splits them in half. In short adding a second animal spirit would've made the build up feel more intense than starting with a neck snap.
Nightwolf may not be my favorite, but he is a cool addition to the MK franchise.

Exactly, an "Elemental". A step below the Elder Gods, and two steps below a Titan (ie. Kronika).
Save for Shinnok, whom himself is a FALLEN Elder God, Cetrion is the only Elder God formally introduced in the series, playable character or otherwise.
That being said, having an entire video centered around two combatants spanning what, three games in total? Wouldn't make for a long watch.
I have to agree with War Ritual being his best.
I'd love to see a list of the 3D Era characters who haven't been in anything besides the 3D era titles.
Komo-tose is easily my favorite Nightwolf finisher from the sound design and ending pose alone
His mk3 light beam one is my absolute favourite. Has stuck in my mind since I was a child and I'm 40 now. Simple but effective whilst still being flashy. I'm irish but nightwolf was always one of my fave characters along with sonia, sub zero, kitana and rain :)

Not a Nightwolf fan, I am sorry, but I did enjoy this video. I also think you are right he did get the short end of the stick with fatalities. By the way I appreciate that Nightwolf outro you put in this video, it's one of the best outroes by a long way. It sends chills down the spine and I love it.
Here's to hoping they bring Nightwolf to the movies, whether it be live action or animated. Also, it's nice to see another indigenous content creator be involved in one of my favorite series.

Yeah, MFing Nightwolf baby! Such an underrated character, but he caught my eye right at the beginning in MK3. Wow, yeah those first four fatalities are boring. Didn't realize they just had him cutting off heads with his tomahawk. Very lazy SMH. The only thing I like from the MK3 fatality is the person's body smoking afterwards lol. It gets good with "Energy Channel" I always loved that one. "Comatose" is okay, but I found it a little overdramatic but that's better than another lazy fatality where he cuts their head off with his tomahawk. "Ascension" is a nice update to his MK3 fatality. #1 is his best fatality by a long shot! Dang, I guess I've had rose colored glasses on my whole life for Nightwolf that I didn't realize how bland some of his fatalities are. His character is a hell of a lot better than most of his fatalities. In the future, they need to put more respect on Nightwolf's name cause this is unacceptable lol. I guess the next ranking is The Edenians. Looking forward to that, even though I still think Queen Sindel is worthy of her own video. She's always been one of my favorite MK characters too (More so pre-MK9 Sindel. I don't know who the hell she is now *shudders*) Can't wait to see Tanya and Rain ranked as well.

I hope instead of mk12 that we can get a 30th anniversary collection kind of like street fighter including mk1-mka or a remaster of mk9 or both
If they do a collection instead of an mk9 remaster it should also have the different versions of some of the game like mk trilogy (ps1 and n64 version) and mk gold and quality of life features like online play, filters, different borders for the games, options to change the screen size, and they could fix the load times and crashes in trilogy.
#5 is my least favorite personally. Maybe if the victim had exploded at the end it would have been better. Great list as always!
Nightwolf has always been one of my favorites to play as in MK3 and especially in MK11. Hopefully he will return for the next MK game.
I'll be honest I would replace 2nd place fatality into 3rd place to be honest, like don't get me wrong I still love it but like the 3rd place entry 'Comotose' it just feels out of place. Like stabbing the 2 blades on the opponents shoulders and summoning a beam of light to disintergrate them makes no sense to me like are the daggers suppose to conduits for the light beam to strike down as if it was lightning, I don't get it!? But hey that's my opinion anyway still great list overall Nick, I'm sure your dad likes it too.
Really cool the Native Americans fought the Vikings/Ottoman warriors and became good friends with some French/Irish and Scottish people and also joined in Civil war/WW1/WW2
When UMK3 came out I was in the 5th grade and one of our projects was to make a diorama and I made mine look like nightwolfs light from above fatality in the netherrealm stage

The way u kept mentioning your dad is so cool ... It's always a joy when your parents show love and interest to your fav games and I personally know that very well !
A good way to remake the lightning strike would be to first summon a wolf, have it charge your opponenet and rip their chest, exposing their heart, then charge the tomahawk with lightning, throw it into their heart, and have it charge with electricity right before it explodes.
I'm native Canadian and always thought Nightwolf was a pretty cool character

I actually really like the tomahawk throw in Deception. Call it nostalgia as Deception has been my favorite since I was a kid, but I just really like the little flourish he does before he tosses it. Simple but effective.
Then again Kano's knife toss finisher was my favorite in X so that could just be a thing for me.

He was introduced in a poor mk game though. If he was on Mk2 he might have had some good fatalities. Mk 3 was terrible for that.

I think it would be funny if Nightwolf made it as a DLC in MK1, but as a woman. While a gender-swapped Nightwolf may sound stupid, "Nightwolf" isn't the character's name, but his title. Heck, his tower ending in MK11 even has him passing the title off to a woman, who would become the new Nightwolf (in his ending). In addition, his previous Nightwolf was a woman. The only issue is that it might come off as "woke," but it wouldn't be nonsensical for an MK1 Nightwolf to be the Nightwolf at the end of his MK11 Tower Ending or something along those lines.
There's also the potential of having both a male and female Nightwolf in the game together.

And I adore Nightwolf…..but yeah i can only name like 4 good ones. And before MK 11 it was 3. They were pretty bad. Also I don’t understand at all why they haven’t included his bow & arrow in his fatalities.

It's funny how one man's trash is another man's treasure. As a kid, I really liked "a little off the top" for its simplicity. The ones that are more "realistic" seem the most scary to me.
Personally my number 1 favorite is Koma-tose and War Ritual is my 2nd favorite!
Interesting to hear you're Dine man, yes, thats the actaul name. Navajo is a name given by the spaniards which means thieves with knives. Nightwolf has always been one of my favorites since MK9 which is where i got my start as a Kombatant. I share your sentiments about him being done well and correctly. I myself am Kiowa and Comanche from my father's side descending from Chief Quannah himself.

Nice to see some positivity for Nightwolf. Most people I was with in the MK9 release time bashed on him for a)Not stopping Sindel earlier and b)Freddy's ending. Though some have gotten more accepting of him via MK11 (albeit some want the next game Nightwolf is in to have the lady version from his MK11 ending)
Speaking of: Rate the Endings for characters (yes, the Armageddon ones would be low due to no visuals but still)?
No visuals isn’t the issue with Armageddon’s endings. It’s the fact that they are all so stupid and it’s pretty much the start of all endings not being canon. Got Kintaro with the swords of ice, fire, order, and chaos? What does that even mean? Someone just goes crazy I believe. I forgot who. Oh and how can we forget PLANET SMOKE 😆

Too bad they didn't tap into the animality potential that they teased with his MK9 ending. Even though that may possibly upset Native American representation with the skinwalker taboo, you can't deny that a werewolf would be capable of some pretty savage fatalities.
Awesome work....though if you would have said finishers instead of fatality....i would have said you missed his animality turning into a killer wolf....
But i suppose it's not that great....but better than the other animalities

Nightwolf Fatality idea.
Home boi whips out the Tomahawk and slice the opponent's stomach spilling out intestines, then kicking the opponent to the ground to summon the wolf to feast on the guts while the spirit bear rips the oppenent in two.
Nightwolf is a 10/10 character, but it's surprising how many of his finishers are just so meh.

Here’s my rankings for Nightwolf’s terrible fatalities. He is a cool character but man he gets done dirty:
1. Energy Channel (MK3)
• This one is his best one and there’s really no competition. Quick, brutal, to the point. We know what I like by now lol. I don’t like my time to be wasted with a bunch of nonsense. Also this fatality is the one that’s used by Nightwolf to take out Sindel(and himself.
2. Ascension (MK9)
• This is similar to my number one pick but what brings this down for me is that it weaker. In Energy Channel, the opponent disintegrated! That’s so cool! Here they just get burned and they end up skinless.
3. Little off the Top (MK9)
• This one is ok. Not flashy but doesn’t need to be. It’s simple and quick and doesn’t need to be savage. It’s fine.
4. Tomahawk Decapitation (MKD)
• This one just feels like a fatality of the klassic games. Is it bad? No. Boring? Yea. But it’s not offensively bad, drawn out, and nonsensical so it’s placed higher.
5. Lightning Axe (MK3)
• This one has a good idea….that’s it.he just shocks the opponent? Doesn’t even looks like anything happened to them. Could have burnt their body or turn them to a just a skeleton?
6. Axe, Meet Head (MKD)
• Wow, yikes. See this is too far in the other direction for me. I hate HATE long nonsense garbage fatalities. But this is the opposite of the spectrum. Far too simple, boring, and quick.
7. War Ritual (MK11)
• This one is an issue I have with many newer finishers. Like, ok he chops the jaw. Oh he’s peeling the body? Ok. Where do we go from here tho? Oh…I see. He’s gonna throw his axe at the heart. Why? Already dead. Is this how it ends? This fatality was doomed from the start! If it just ended after the peel it’d be anticlimactic. But throwing the axe at the heart is just dumb and excessive…AND STILL ANTICLIMACTIC! I don’t know how this could have been made better.
8. Komo-Tose (MK11)
• And this is emblematic of EVERYTHING I hate about some of these newer ones. It’s dumb, makes no sense, long, and boring. And they have the nerve to try and end it on a cool shot smh. He walks up and snaps the neck……then he walks around the opponent and hits them with the club so they fly up in the air???…….then he catches them and his spirit bear snaps them like a slim Jim…they then split the opponent and toss each side. Who is this for? This feels like what a Kreate-A-Fatality would be if it were done today and that is not a compliment. Everything I hate in a fatality all in one. I was so disappointed when I saw this for first time. Nightwolf mains should just stick to brutalities because that’s where the cool stuff are at. And at least he’s got pretty good outros as well. But these fatalities? No no no, they aren’t it.

Nightwolf was played in MK3 by Sal Davita. When MK3 came out I knew I had heard that name somewhere but for the life of me I couldn’t remember. Then I remember getting NBA Jam TE for the Genesis and there he was: Sal Davita as a hidden character; who was one of the developers from Midway. 😮
I would love to see the Injustice stage transitions ranked or friendships, that'd be awesome.

If I'm not mistaken, the energy channel fatality was used in the story mode to kill Sindel.
I really like his first fatality in MK11. I don’t get how people don’t think it’s good

I have to respectfully disagree with you on the bottom spot. I totally get that it's something several other characters could also do, but I really enjoy the pacing, and him holding up the head victorious with all the blood coming out.
