Thanks to those who have showed up early, the last couple months have been rough for me, and I haven't uploaded in a while. I hope to maintain a frequent upload schedule during the remainder of the year. I'd like to get two more videos in before the end of this year!
@@FordGTStronk true keep making videos on rare topics about asphalt 8, you will get views not just like; multiplayer tests, reviews, gameplays those are very boring to watch
I’m a day 1 veteran of Asphalt 8. Once I saw the tokens update back in 2015, I already knew the terrible path gameloft was walking down with alternative currency
I only played modded versions for a year or 2 post 2015... It was disheartening to see Asphalt 8 get waylaid that hard. I still remember the good ol days of update 2.5... where the sesto was overpowered, the tuatara was the most fun s class and the camaro GS was a cheap and easy B class (and the survolt was an A class)
Same, I remember wanting just to own that ds automobiles car from class b it looked so cool but needed 300k money for it, then later on shit got tokens, I was like is it a gacha now ? but no it was just EA like microtransactions.... I loved the game soooo much, then in the later time, I tried modded versions which as sad as it seems was more fun since you can actually buy stuff without spending real money...
The day they updated the prices for cars, making them extremely expensive but keeping the same rewards, they killed the game for me. It was such an addicting game and seeing that Gameloft keep killing it because of money makes me very sad. I hope the community could make some unofficial servers with the good old game when the company finally kill it and move to asphalt 9
I love that this is the first video that addresses the fall of Asphalt 8, especially that the new-release bias of A9 is mentioned. However, as a 5-years veteran, I think it's best to talk about the reason why the game still managed to hold up today. Asphalt 9 is good, but not great. The more I played the game, the more I became irritated. Fuel system, janky physics taken from Asphalt Xtreme (an absolute gem when it was alive), new updates with new car restrictions most players can't get through because it's exclusively for a certain car, and the worst offender, unless those cars are meta or is the only available choice for daily/special events, those certain cars are to no use. A9 did nothing to solve that, instead they kept on pushing for more and more updates with newer limited events, basically FOMO. After claims of Gameloft copying games, in 2013 they decided to prove that they are still capable of making new, original games. Asphalt 8, with the physic system built from the ground up, held the racing up to a respectable degree. The controls are simple, the cars are weighty and reactive, and the maps are well-designed for the physic engine. This is what sets this game apart from the NFS MW12 mobile and became the biggest hit in mobile racing, because Asphalt 8's gameplay loop allows players to keep racing and not limiting players behind a fuel system like A9 do. This is THE game that defies the greatest of bigger companies, the game that defines the genre on the mobile platform, the one that made the biggest leap for the better. Since Vivendi took over in 2017, things has gone downhill. I was too young to realize back then, but the content update headed towards keeping players away from making fast progress, from removing replay from mastery (known for credit farm) to increasing car price (I got my 12C for 90k credits, now it's 200 tokens). Then, 2019, fusion coins, battle pass. The worst update known to the community. From this point forward, every updates was just to make the game look worse than it was before, and by locking players behind rewards that looks like an average worker's payout, it forces microtransaction boundaries to keep churning out money. Hell, there's a spending limit implemented in the game, how screwed up is that? Asphalt 8 is not like Asphalt 9. Asphalt 8 is so clear of what it is, covering it in crap doesn't hinder its identity of a great arcade racer. Asphalt 9 is the exact opposite, it's a mess that's being held up by the amount of care the company gives, because it makes money. Mind you, Chinese players are more interested in A9 than A8, and that means market expansion, means more money. Another point that drove A8 to its grave and piss on it. Just imagine, if this game reverts itself back to 2015, in the time when NFS has to take a break, Forza becomes stagnant of its identity, Gran Turismo strives for the real world, a racing game with visuals rivalled to the consoles of its time. Asphalt 8's fall was the combination of financial trouble, corporation greed, and predatory practices. What is left behind is a legacy almost unspoken to the racing genre, a moment of airborne crushed into bits and pieces by the harsh reality. I'm glad that I got to play Asphalt 8, the memories will never be forgotten, because there will never ever be a game like Asphalt 8: Airborne. Sorry for this long essay of a comment.
By the way, I'm now a Race Driver: GRID fan. It sure fills the void that is Asphalt 8, but I don't think lingering on the past is the right thing for racing games.
The core gameplay of A9 is still great despite issues with the physics engine (there are workarounds like pressing brake if the car starts flipping for no reason mid air), p2w BS, gambling masked as packs, unfair competition, fuel cells, tickets, FOMO because they return the premium cars once in a blue moon, and other crap. The game is a grindfest but you can get a decent garage for free if you keep playing every day and don't miss events, SE, MP + if you manage your resources wisely. I'm playing for 5+ years and I've got many top tier cars for free. A8 was great for its day but now it's obsolete, p2w and bloated as hell. "Asphalt 9 is the exact opposite, it's a mess that's being held up by the amount of care the company gives, because it makes money" Actually A9 is a pretty straightforward and well organized racing game. All sections are clearly separated and almost everything is easy to find. A8 is a complete mess with so many currencies, bikes alongside cars, design all over the place, silly upgrade system, boosts, ranking manipulation by getting the most speed for the lowest ranking (you don't see that shit in A9), etc.
@@Mindphaser1 Again, A8 is only good with its gameplay. The currency is one of those that screwed the game (actually, the blue token was implied in the game shortly after launch, but it doesn't limit much of the game like the crap that is fusion coins). It's healthier in pre-2018, and most of the issues mentioned at the end was after 2018. I agree with the boosts and the manipulation tho. Asphalt 8 is horrible to play these days because they are intentionally making it worse. No one complaint about the car list and now it's a problem. No one complaint about the UI and now it downgraded into a void. Asphalt 9 gets all the care, that's why the game still has players around it, to shine it in the spotlight and not Asphat 8. One more thing. The bikes are great to drive, and to an extent I prefer them over cars. Maybe GL should have made a spinoff with bikes, because driving them with a different nitrous mechanic than cars gave them a lot of versatility.
Tbf, I think the fuel in A9 is good for preventing people spamming cars like Huracan or Vanda every single times like how R8 SE got spammed a lot in A8. Still there might be a better system to prevent people from spamming instead of fuel, like RP system from Racing Master
@@Windows11Official I'm trying RM beta on PC, and while the control was irritating there, I love that they actually made the cars more balanced than just meta. That's probably until the Global release, but the RP system not only balances out the frequency of using one specific car, it gives leaderboard competition with those cars once you get it to around 1200RP, just enough so that you know how the car drives. It's probably one of the best MP-ranking system I've ever experienced so far with games like these.
To be honest ever since when they change their name to car racing game because this is the main reason why it was a bit ruined and they completely took away 2 laps and 3 laps which so many people missed a lot
The real deathblow for me was when they decided to reduce payouts from 6,000 to 300. I remember using a double credits boost and grinding the Mercedes Benz Silver Lightning Dubai race over and over again. Despite what you’d think, it felt doable. Yeah, there were a lot of cars that were too far out of reach, but a good chunk of the cars and upgrades were well within reach. Each race felt like I was getting 1 step closer to that next car, or that new upgrade. But once they made those races worth 300 credits each, it became impossible. They had already increased the prices across the board, and having to now do 20 times the races just became impossible. At that moment imo, gameloft had killed whatever fun A8 had. I would check back in every so often, but the game just has nothing left. Sure they’ve got like 50 new cars, but none of them are affordable. It used to take maybe 10 races to get 100k now takes 160. And that’s assuming it costs 100k. If it costs in the millions, then just forget it. Asphalt 8 died a long time ago, and nobody can tell me otherwise. What remains is not Asphalt 8, but the zombified remains of Asphalt 8.
I played A8 a ton back in middle school (around 2013-14ish) The selling point for me is that it was a major mobile racing game that didnt have a premium currency. Then tokens happened. I powered through for a while until they made it so tokens are required to max out on upgrades, that was the final straw thay made me quit the game. Looking at the game now, it seems things have only gotten worse.
i'd say the golden age of the game was 2019, before the game became pay to win. i started playing the game when san diego harbor and china maps were added and always had fun but after 2019 i stopped playing because how much cars that are literally impossible to get without paying money were added, i also liked collecting card boxes (those which gave blueprint and pro upgrade cards) but then they removed it which made me sad
@@FordGTStronkI started the game in 2016 and quit in 2020 after they increased the price A LOT. I played asphalt 8 quite recently and the prices and micro-transactions are crazy
I spent a lot of time grinding for the BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage, which was at the time of release, one of the best cars in the game. I practiced hard, and I beat the nearly-impossible to beat AI for the challenge. And then they demoted it to the bottom of C class. I have never even opened Asphalt 8 since.
This was a game of my childhood. I had many great cars, and was pretty good at it. One day when I returned from a break I found huge shift in car classes, making my best S class cars shift to A and even B class. Some cars simply disappeared. After that day I no longer played the game.
started playing back in 2014 and this game made SO many child hood memories and after all these micro transactions it just became so stale and so difficult without having to pay. i remember when cars like the ds survolt was like 8 thousand credits and it became like 300,000 and so on and so forth and fusion coins and everything it was really dead after 2020 i really miss what this game used to be man ut sucks to see it go
This is why I am finding older versions of the game. Ngl, back in 2018 and 2020, A8 was enjoyable. I remembered back in 2020 when I got back to the game, I was excited when I got to max pro a car without any difficulties. Now, they removed that and forcing players to use fusion coins and cards to fully upgrade a car. Not just that, they nerfed a lot of my favorite D-class vehicles that used to perform good and can go up to 325 km/h with the purple nitro like the DeZir or the F150. I also remembered when you can vote for how many laps and tracks in mp back then. Well, I guess Gameloft and other game companies are gonna sacrifice their playerbase for money. 😢
I've been playing this game since 2014 so I've seen the many changes throughout the years. In fact, I remember when credits were the only currency present in-game. I remember when there were max upgrades only. Then pro upgrades were added in. We used to refer to fully upgraded cars as "max pro" or, if they weren't, we used to say things like 0500 5050 to state our current tuning of one car. It's no longer that way. Many cars were also changed in class and rank. Remember the SLK SE? It used to be an A class car, which had a starting rank of 885. Needless to say, it decimated lower rank lobbies because its speed was much higher than the rest. Well apparently now it's a class D car. The Chevrolet Impala was a class A car when it released. It was later relegated to D class as well. Both these cars also had "Elite Tuning", a feature which was also completely removed. F1 cars only had "pro" upgrades when they released. Why? Idk I guess GL wanted us to pay more money opening boxes for the cards required to upgrade them? Fact is, I bet new players were confused as to why these had "pro" only upgrades unlike the rest. I remember the Research & Development, Championship and Enduro Double Down events. We used to farm credits with Season 9 and Car Mastery. It was a great way to practice laps while earning credits for it. But of course, the Fast-Lane Update had to come in and make Mastery unreplayable. Later, Season 9 farming was also reduced so much, it was no longer worth it. Mastery was later removed altogether. Farming is just gone now so nowadays I spend like 2 or 3 hours on a lap while earning nothing from it aside from bragging rights. The Double Credits booster is completely useless now. Why is it still in the game? And don't get me started about the introduction of Fusion Coins. What a mess it was. At some point, the upgrades' weight distribution of cars were also changed. Upgrading the Top Speed now will shoot your rank up to the stars, while upgrading Handling or Acceleration all the way will only net you like 5 or 6 rank points up. This was likely done to prevent cars like SLK SE and R8SE to decimate lobbies with their high speed while maintaining a low rank. Also, licensing issues. Want these RUFs, 9FF, and Hot Wheels etc? Well you're out of luck, sorry 🤷♀
the ctr3 and rt12s have been outright removed from the game a few updates ago, i no longer have them and the players that did got compensated for them and it wasnt even consistent, im still really mad about the fact that theyre gone because there was literally no reason for it.
As someone who has been playing regularly for years, I agree with a lot of your points, but I think some are a bit unfair. The game is dying out but I wouldn't say it's dead - especially at the higher levels of skill where players are still pushing themselves to get better, improve their times, rival world records, place at the top of event leaderboards etc. I believe starting out in Asphalt 8 is basically impossible now, so the playerbase will only get smaller, but there are many groups within the current community who still love the game, whether they spent real money or not. Competing without spending real money is very much possible, myself and some others have managed it, but our potential is ultimately lower than those who were willing to drop their money on the best S class cars. Winning in multiplayer is easily possible without the best cars, but it takes a good amount of skill, which newer players won't have of course. By ignoring the pay to win currencies and playing to improve my skills and racing with friends I've consistently had a pretty good time, but I would never recommend anyone to download the game in 2023. It's not worth the time or money investment to reach the capabilities of older players, even if most of those older players love the game very much.
Sad to see coming from an a8 veteran. Bring me back to the days of multiplayer tuning my 330p4 to battle with vulcans. Bring me back to championships, edd's and those oh so difficult r&ds
Used to play this game a ton, man... on an old Lenovo laptop that was supposed to be for school. It came pre-installed, so I spent many hours on that game. It was a tough game to master, but it used to be a lot friendlier to beginners. I never wanted to install Asphalt 9 because I loved Airborne, but I guess I should give it a shot at one point. Now I want to go back and play it again, even though it totally became a pay-to-win scheme and punished me for simply being younger. I miss my DS Survolt...
I think the reason for A8 getting so bloated and only for the rich was to shift the major player-base to A9. I mean it is the next sequel of the Asphalt series and if people still keep playing the older one when the new game is out then what's the point. Both games have their ups and downs and I'm on the A8 side since I'm an old player. The gameplay is definitely a drastic change from A8 to A9 but A9 just feels inconsistent sometimes with the extremely fast cars just bouncing here and there on every small bump of the road (eg : Jesko Absolut). But even so, making an older game this obsolete when it had the biggest player attraction of any game of the Asphalt series is just ridiculous. I just downloaded A8 a few days ago and now the only good car I have left in my garage is a Veyron (I lost my old account). So nowadays I just play quick races to relive the nostalgia of this game. One thing I can say for sure is that A8's music is miles clear of A9 overall.
i'm a veteran of asphalt 8 played this game several times and also played hacked versions, this game influenced my childhood in terms of aesthetics and views on supercars and unknown and cool supercars and hypercars, music and sounds are a separate story, but unfortunately asphalt 8 was ruined for money, I am currently playing Asvalt 8+, who knows, who knows, this is a version of this game that has not changed at all since the release of Asvalt 8 and only got better, it is a salvation for veterans, it is in apple arcade
I recently reinstalled this game after years of not playing it. It's completely unrecognizable. Ads everywhere, cars impossible to obtain, rewards and credits that serve practically no purpose; the experience itself is crap. It's very sad how it fell out of favor. I first discovered it back in 2015, and it was amazing. I had it on a tablet and on the computer. I kept playing it with my brother. But due to a mistake on their part, I lost all my progress and it became too complicated to try again and I deleted it. Today I don't regret deleting it.
I remember getting my first S-class car for credits back in 2017 and this year I came back to the game and now I even get C-classes without religiously playing ranked which takes like 5 minutes to even load into a game for only 10 blue credits per 1-2 matches. It saddens me honestly
And now I have 1 A rank car and 0 S ranks, while having 10M credits and 8M purple currency. Those currencies are just bulls. I can only update the cars I luckily purchased 1-2 years ago and that's all. I am stuck on the bottom of my Gauntlet league, and can't earn stars for next season because every car needs Blue star currency.
I used to play asphalt 8 a lot when i was little, i would go as far as to steal my cousin's phone just to play the game. Once i got my own phone and got Asphalt 8 i started to grind so much I was buying every credit car I could get my hands to. My next vehicle was going to be the Ferrari FXX (it costed 300k before the price increase update) before they spiked up the price to 1 million credits. That alone killed my motivation. And let's not talk about that the majority of cars now cost in tokens, which are close to impossible to obtain and the prices are utterly outrageous. I've seen class S cars costing as much as more than 10k tokens which is just mind shattering. The last time i played the game was when there were the events that would give you a free car if you grinded through it, such as the Italdesign zerouno event or the Lamborghini Sian, but even those were not enough to keep me in the game and once I stopped grinding there too, I never downloaded that app ever again. And it's sad because I used to be obsessed with this game, i wanted to play it at all costs. Now i just can't even fathom to download it. And i'm sure that there's people like me who also went through this too.
I remember playing asphalt 8 when i was in high school and well one of the things i enjoyed were the cars, tracks and the ability to drift/drive like crazy, it was alot of fun until they added tokens for upgrades, at that point i stopped playing all together because the grind was too much
I remember playing this game after my cousin showing me it when I was like 7 years old around 2013-2016. I didn’t mind all the other features, I just wanted to navigate to buy the cars I wanted and do my favorite maps for fun, I was dumb enough to not know and couldn’t till some differences of the cars and where to buy them so I just mindlessly click where i think they’re gonna be until I see them. Now, I see this game as just nostalgia and quite fun to play for a bit.
I really love this game when I first start on my second smartphone. The motorcycles and general game handling were so awesome in phone steering mode. The weird thing is that, after that the game just stop working for me entirely, refusing to boot up many many time. I switched phones 4 times since then but the game never boot up, after creating new account and all too. I gave up and play Asphalt 9 instead but its not the same magic anymore...
downloaded the game in november or so to re live my childhood (i hate asphalt 9). while i completed the career, i couldn’t get many of the cars i had when i was younger, like the veyron. things were so expensive, and the tuning. THE TUNING. whatever happened to paying credits for it?? nice video. (the gameplay is a little questionable though haha)
They made events that forced players to spend money or tokens, and then took the reward away, and the cycle repeats. I remember working my fingers to the bone for the McLaren M14A and enjoying it in multiplayer, only for it to be destroyed in the second wave of "car rank and upgrade percentage rebalancing" Its hilarious that scamming is an accepted practice for Gameloft.
Back in the day, I had a hacked account with an infinite amount of credits. It lasted from 2016 to about 2019 before getting deleted. I remember it was difficult to play the game WITH INFINITE CREDITS. Can't imagine what F2P players had to go through. I also think the main reason for the game's death is GAMELOFT ruining it on purpose to funnel the remaining players to A9. A9 Is addicting, but the entire gameplay philosophy has been changed. Every single Asphalt game before 9 had super wide and long tracks, making them top-speed focused. Or simply said - Dumb-fun. In A9 all of the recently added maps are cramped, claustrophobic, full of turns, and barely any straightaways. Not to mention all of the recently added cars have FARTS instead of nitrous.
3:50 but old asphalt 8 is still something that players want to come back to because the gameplay mechanics and visuals of as8 will always remain classic and memorable no matter what, even if asphalt 9 has improved versions of those, the sountracks and visuals of as8 used to be the best.
I used to play asphalt 8 when i was so young, all the songs so nostalgic, i still remember setting the radio to bass all the time. i really miss the good ol lobby next to the sea
its just sad. this game used to be good but now like most of the cars cost tokens so without paying, it is really hard to get some good car and upgrades
i played this game during the dominance of the slk 55 se, winning the final blueprints from the patagonia cup was probably (in my heart) my proudest achievement in middle school
i used to play asphalt 8 back in 2016-2021 it was fun even with the tokens it felt fun doing mastery and saving my tokens i remember saving for months to finally get the vulcan the R&D events even though they were hard (looking at the bmw hommage) they felt good to finally complete. the special edition cars were so much fun to drive as well this game in its prime could have me awake all night grinding multiplayer. what killed it for me was the addition of fusion coins the removal of tokens from mastery and the near impossible chances of getting cars that can actually compete in multiplayer without getting your credit card out.
Just watched this vid, this made me remember those days while I was still playing it on my mom's phone as a young teen around 2015-2016, by those times I remember I had just unlocked season 7, and that's when I ended Tried to revisit in 2019, using my phone, that's when I was surprised with the cards and blueprints and pro max upgrading, and especially those fusion coins (those purple tokens, if I remember it right). I remember still enjoying the game for its gameplay and nothing else, so when the updates kept coming with unreachable car prices, I knew it was time to say goodbye to that game. This video only made me realize how right I was to never look back on that game anymore. I also played a bit of A9 around its launch in around 2018 or 2019, and with its fuel system, I thought I was playing a duplicate of A8 with the fuel system adapted from CSR Racing (yes, that drag racing game) and also decided I won't play this game for too long, and so I did, not anymore playing it after around 3-4 months since I discovered it
I deleted the game when you couldn’t efficiently grind for coins anymore. Before one of the updates, you could earn 30k+ coins every run. After that, if youd already beat the race, youd get no more than a few hundred.
First played in 2014, man I remember tearing the multiplayer races with my max pro A class Cadillac Coupe Race Car ... and yes I miss when we could vote for gamemodes in multiplayer races
I remember I used to play this game a lot when i was younger. My friends even used to call me drift king when we were playing together sometimes lol. But I feel like I would've stayed with this game more if it didn't delete my data. I remember I used to play everyday to grind and successfully get the Koenigsegg Agera, but one day it just deleted my data making me start all over again...I lost my precious F1 cars, Koenigsegg, Bugatti Veyron, and the Mercedes Silver. RIP.
The original currency, gold coins, are literaly pointless! I deleted the game when they changed the ranking system (just shuffled cars around) so my 4M coin car was now an A class. Then they added the new currency, same update I think. So I dropped it. Picked it up again later and it’s so painfull to progress having to get tokens super slowly through way too much daily playtime otherwise you have to pay. They have ruined the game. Simplest reason is the currency alone. When if was just the 3 it was best
I used to play this game when i was around 7-8 and 13. I got maserati granturismo but currently it got removed. Along with my fav dream car, mclaren 675lt. Nowadays its hard to find a good game.
i remember this one R&D event, if memory served correctly, the last race of it, even when max/pro was nearly impossible because the rubberbanding of the ghost racer was insabe
its so sad to see such a nostalgic, fun game dead. that game was literally my childhood. i remember the tesla, hotwheels and other vehicles which are now sadly removed.. the game sucked after they updated the menu backround and stuff. it doesnt feel the same anymore..
For me, when i first even meet this game, its sadly alreay have died to me, too much microtransactions, and after i learned how game was used to be at version 1.0.0 i were shocked, i never played this game as usual anymore... So now i have 1.0.0 premium mod by Techboy and im glad THIS version is just good game, also its called "Premium" not because its paid, its free, just game feels now like complete project without microtransactions at all and with fixed car prices, with less grind, and feels and plays as fun as ever, so don't support piracy, but Gameloft raised this game to the tops and also as made it to top ruined it to top of the bottom... So just let ya know the game isn't comepletely died, its turned into a legacy, community making mods, learning stuff and how its made and slowly turning it into community project
I used to play this game all the time in 2017-2018. You used to be able to buy good multiplayer cars just by grinding credits from the single-player levels. Everything started to go downhill when they released the update with the mario-cart-esque mechanics that nobody cared about. Then came a barrage of new currencies, new multiplayer matching systems, and messing around with the D-C-B-A-S class system that took a bunch of cars that used to be really good in multiplayer and made them garbage (especially the R8 and SLK 55 special edition). I had cars in the S and A classes that got demoted to D class. The only surefire way to win in multiplayer now is to either use a maxed out D class car (fully upgraded Dodge Dart) or to basically have the fastest car in the entire game. Very little of multiplayer is based on skill, it's just about the relative speed of your car compared to others in the bracket.
This game died when the prices were updated. They went way too high to realistically obtain cars, and then came all the extra features thst were not needed. The nail in the coffin, though, was when my progress got reset becuse I didnt have an account. Seeing the absurd prices for a D class car was so heartbreaking, and the game has become so unrecognisable it hurts. All my childhood memories were in that game and it absolutely got killed alongside them.
The point that I can agree is that this game had had too many changes, in a way that negatively impacted the game. But now the community is getting even smaller and smaller due to the serious lacking of content for each and new update. The current Asphalt 8 state is worrying me. The core gameplay, which is racing part is still fun and enjoyable, for what's still keeping me returning to Asphalt 8 often.
There are so many games with microtransactions that still live its life happily throughout multiple years. This game literally has zero balance between veteran players that just want to play the game and race with their own kinds, and master players with the best kits possible. The game has so many contributors that deter or dishearten players who simply just want to enjoy the game. The rewarding effect (feeling of reward) in this game gets is completely butchered by its confusingly aggressive monetisation models and lack of proper user retention. There are so many good examples that those games don't even try this hard to stay active but still proceed to make millions out of player's pockets. At least Asphalt 9 is at least done much better but honestly I like the game mechanics in Asphalt 8 more.
I used to play the hell out of this game. I was so happy to have one car above all others The C3 corvette. It was A class and I had the car in real life. Redownloaded and my account was lost. I was given back a few things but I’ll never have that car, that feeling, and that accomplishment back.
For real, when asphalt inflated the prices of car upgrades, it was bad. A lot of people left, and new players later on would struggle to upgrade low class cars. Though asphalt has been more generous in events with good rewards, you basically have to have an s class car to at least try to get the best rewards. Harder to reach it due to no new players sticking around. But really, you don’t really need to spend money on the game to progress. However, the ways of getting the good stuff, like festivals (which is car hunts), which is how I got most of my high class cars. They keep removing the opportunity to advance, which sucks, especially for new comers.
everything you said is right for me i wont spend in the game if only to unlock cars i would rather spend on pass something like that and back in old days i used to grind money to buy cars thats whats make it more exciting and now cars most of the car can buy with money now they change it to another currency which is more harder to get or must spend money on it which is why i hated and lost interest playing the game, for the gameplay i choose a8 because i love more the physics here than a9 to bouncy and in terms of speed all that but yeah i guess this is the end of it they make a big mistake
played A8 in late 2014, returned in mid 2018(noticed a couple of cars with different currency, oh yeah 3 new races at the bottom of each season if i remembered correctly), made like 3 videos of A8 since it had its own recorder back then, i came back last month and my goodness it's no longer the same, some of the og cars are gone so i can't do those required car races, upgrading is a pain in the *** now, can't even upgrade when you're offline now, so many cars currency has changed to tokens or others, sadly i use my icloud back then so i lost my progress
I played Asphalt 8 since 2016-18 on TV, and 8 really liked the game After so long, i saw that it wasnt like it used to This is why i download older apks
I used to play this game when i was around 7-8 and 13. I got maserati granturismo but currently it got removed. Along with my fav dream car, mclaren 675lt.
The olden days of asphalt 8 airborne has gone now. 😢😣😭. No more asphalt 8.I have stopped playing it before 1 year. But now I have started to play asphalt 9 legends 😃😎
Even though everything is changing a lot in this game, and it wasn’t the same as it was like 6 or 7 years ago, I still really enjoy playing the game as it brings back nostalgia. I’m sure that in 6 or 7 years in the future from now (if the game is still going), I’ll still enjoy playing it.
I haven't played this in years. Blasting Lightbringer, Professional Griefers, and Holdin' On every race but I never got much of a handle on things and eventually moved on.
I installed the game this week after 3 years and noticed the same issue the currency is of so many types making any new player having a tough time to get any car plus most of the interesting cars are gone including the best car i got Ferrari fxx evoluzine I was extremely obsessive about this game now its totally trash not the gameplay but the ecosystem for it is unrecognisable
to be honest i love the game but it just reached a point where it seemed like it rewarded hackers more than normal players. the first time i ever felt good about hacking a game
I use to play this game on iphone 4. And it was awesome. I played every level in it but now I downloaded the game again in my Xiaomi but it's always says to attach the controller. I'm not able to play like before with my phone's gyro proximity sensors. This game sucks now so much
Been with asphalt 8 since 2017 back when I got an ad on UA-cam and it was amazing, sound gameplay multi-player was Allright, nowadays like this video explains, so much limits on what you can do its unplayable
Dude as a 2014 veteran it really hurts to see a childhood game destroyed like this.. I only remember there being 1 currency which is the gold, and you can basically buy every car with just gold. Maybe there are a few premium cars which cost the blue tokens (please excuse my terminology, I have left the game in 2017 and I'm really uneducated and outdated) and those were dirt cheap too. The moment they started adding more and more cars which costed credits it became really hard to progress. More and more cars I love which costed gold now cost some weird and niche currency which I have none of. Asphalt 8 was such a good game in it's prime, there weren't alot of things and things were extremely simple. Drive and play, get gold, get better cars, get more gold and the cycle continues. I remember playing with my cousins when they were still "young enough to play", now we're all grown up. Ah nostalgia really hits hard for this game because I think I spent the majority of my life in childhood just spending my time playing with relatives. I do hope others have had the same experience.
Yeah, I used to play this game when I was younger too. I played it when it was a paid game. It's sad to see how far (or not far, for that matter) that this game is come.
I remember getting the carrot king McLaren X2 at a really low car rank, grinded so hard, played so well and cherished each of the formula championships - still got videos of those last few super challengers. I remember the stress and the anticipation of finally beating it for the McLaren mp4-31 after failing it before, I remember doing the same thing and planning and preparing for revenge on the Apollo IE at a super good rank. God this game used to be so fun and challenging and now it’s just these garbage copy paste cars and a million ads
in my opinion, the number one reason asphalt 8 died, for me at least, was the multiplayer update. you couldnt use any of your cars and had to work your way up again, but after every week or so there comes a new "season" where all your progress is completely reset, and you cant use any of your old cars. i hate, hate, HAAATE, this feature, SO MUCH. i remember the old times when i could just hop in a multiplayer game using my b class mediocre car. but thats gone now. also when i was playing the microtransactions and expensive ahh cars were already there, i didnt care about that, i just wanted to play normally with my car.
this game is so sick back in 2018, you can get class S cars bc its super affordable u jus need to grind 125 times and get 4,000 credits all the time. The Mercedes Benz Silver Lightning literally cost just 400k to 500k but just 5 years ago the price literally changed to 5 Million credits. What a huge disappointment, Gameloft.
i've been playing since the game became free on the app store(2014 as I remember), its been basically a decade since I started playing, I've seen every update and change, like cheap cars no microtransactions and etc. etc. the rest is history.. looking at the game now it still is p2w but just play it, multiplayer is not the only mode where you could get easy credits(i know the original multiplayer was deleted long ago) and I lost my old account from like 2016/17 so in 2022 where I lost my account I quit the game untill late 2023, I tried recovering the account but it was unsuccessful so I quit again, not long ago I started completely from 0 and all I can easely say is that the game is just kinda overhated and underrated(I was thinking that the game is 100% p2w but its not, you just have to play to obtain certain cars from like "monthly" passes or festivals they need the grind, its worth it if you restarted from absolutely nothing)
I played this game for 4 years then came back a year later. I have never been so disappointed in a game ever. I came back in 2021 and it was already ruined.
I played on android. Saved account and all. Decided for old time's sake to revisit the game. Lost most if not all my cars, but honestly that wasn't bad because i left the game for good when fusion coins were implemented for tuning. As if tuning wasn't already hard as a F2P player. I was competitive, but I knew it was time to move on. I don't regret anything, I'm glad it happened.

Facts, numba4 knows what he's talking about!
I loved the game soooo much, then in the later time, I tried modded versions which as sad as it seems was more fun since you can actually buy stuff without spending real money...
yeah the times when credit were the main and only currency.
Tbh early tokens updates were "fine" but of course they had to go out of control
They destroyed the tuning system by removing max and requires shit tons of fusion coins to upgrade your cars

"Asphalt 9 is the exact opposite, it's a mess that's being held up by the amount of care the company gives, because it makes money"
Actually A9 is a pretty straightforward and well organized racing game.
Asphalt 8 is dead since 2021 when the main menu of this game changed to A9-designed one.

Update. You can now earn over 100 tokens everyday and most cars can now be bought with reasonable amounts of tokens. Oh yeah A9 still sux
Quite perfectly put
I played A8 a ton back in middle school (around 2013-14ish)
The selling point for me is that it was a major mobile racing game that didnt have a premium currency.
Then tokens happened.
I powered through for a while until they made it so tokens are required to max out on upgrades, that was the final straw thay made me quit the game. Looking at the game now, it seems things have only gotten worse.
The struggle is real (it got even worse now)
i'd say the golden age of the game was 2019, before the game became pay to win. i started playing the game when san diego harbor and china maps were added and always had fun but after 2019 i stopped playing because how much cars that are literally impossible to get without paying money were added, i also liked collecting card boxes (those which gave blueprint and pro upgrade cards) but then they removed it which made me sad

I returned after a while. Everything costs a fortune. I quit

so true the last car I bought was a fukin ds 3 racing which costs 2350 tokens at the time I bought it in 2020
Sad to see coming from an a8 veteran. Bring me back to the days of multiplayer tuning my 330p4 to battle with vulcans. Bring me back to championships, edd's and those oh so difficult r&ds
As an Asphalt 8 veteran myself, the current state of this game is like playing a new game plus on ultra nightmare mode, except without the plus.
Finally someone said that I started playing this game since it was released and I'm an OG it was nostalgic but I can't change to A9 IT feels weird

It’s unfortunate
And now I have 1 A rank car and 0 S ranks, while having 10M credits and 8M purple currency. Those currencies are just bulls. I can only update the cars I luckily purchased 1-2 years ago and that's all. I am stuck on the bottom of my Gauntlet league, and can't earn stars for next season because every car needs Blue star currency.
Yeah, I hate the currencies

I remember working my fingers to the bone for the McLaren M14A and enjoying it in multiplayer, only for it to be destroyed in the second wave of "car rank and upgrade percentage rebalancing"
Its hilarious that scamming is an accepted practice for Gameloft.
A9's tracks are more reliant on player skill
Why tf Cars like devel and jesko has shitty useless nitro
3:50 but old asphalt 8 is still something that players want to come back to because the gameplay mechanics and visuals of as8 will always remain classic and memorable no matter what, even if asphalt 9 has improved versions of those, the sountracks and visuals of as8 used to be the best.
Went back on after a few years and it’s crazy how it’s trying to grab your money… it’s not the same anymore and it sucks
I used to play asphalt 8 when i was so young, all the songs so nostalgic, i still remember setting the radio to bass all the time. i really miss the good ol lobby next to the sea
You don’t need a ‘here’s why’. It died 6 years ago.
If you already knew the answer, then why did you decide to watch 😅
@@FordGTStronk I didn’t watch. I read the title.
its just sad. this game used to be good but now like most of the cars cost tokens so without paying, it is really hard to get some good car and upgrades
Exactly
i played this game during the dominance of the slk 55 se, winning the final blueprints from the patagonia cup was probably (in my heart) my proudest achievement in middle school
I heard that was one of the hardest cars to get in A8 initially. That’s pretty impressive!
i used to play asphalt 8 back in 2016-2021 it was fun even with the tokens it felt fun doing mastery and saving my tokens i remember saving for months to finally get the vulcan the R&D events even though they were hard (looking at the bmw hommage) they felt good to finally complete. the special edition cars were so much fun to drive as well this game in its prime could have me awake all night grinding multiplayer. what killed it for me was the addition of fusion coins the removal of tokens from mastery and the near impossible chances of getting cars that can actually compete in multiplayer without getting your credit card out.
It appears for me that ALL the cars are only purchasable through blue tokens, so what's the point of doing races?
state of tuning you upgrade a car for over 100k credits, fusion coin or 1,000 tokens just to receive I kilometer of speed or +0.1 handling
Just watched this vid, this made me remember those days while I was still playing it on my mom's phone as a young teen around 2015-2016, by those times I remember I had just unlocked season 7, and that's when I ended
Tried to revisit in 2019, using my phone, that's when I was surprised with the cards and blueprints and pro max upgrading, and especially those fusion coins (those purple tokens, if I remember it right). I remember still enjoying the game for its gameplay and nothing else, so when the updates kept coming with unreachable car prices, I knew it was time to say goodbye to that game. This video only made me realize how right I was to never look back on that game anymore.
I also played a bit of A9 around its launch in around 2018 or 2019, and with its fuel system, I thought I was playing a duplicate of A8 with the fuel system adapted from CSR Racing (yes, that drag racing game) and also decided I won't play this game for too long, and so I did, not anymore playing it after around 3-4 months since I discovered it
i swear a lot of our childhood games became like this, pixel gun has had this problem for a while, same with a lot of other games from that era
I deleted the game when you couldn’t efficiently grind for coins anymore. Before one of the updates, you could earn 30k+ coins every run. After that, if youd already beat the race, youd get no more than a few hundred.
First played in 2014, man I remember tearing the multiplayer races with my max pro A class Cadillac Coupe Race Car
... and yes I miss when we could vote for gamemodes in multiplayer races
I first played this game when there was a Tesla and absolutely no microtransactions. That was the best time. Microtransactions ruined Asphalt 8
Well, when the Xtreme died, there is no surprise airborne did as well...
RIP.
As of now there is an ad after every race, and its irritating, jumping to home or going anywhere else there is always an ad
If only asphalt 9 was any better 😭😭 I’ve seen so many quit the game after the c7r update
When if was just the 3 it was best
now they are truly useless since last time i played all the cars got changed to be token only (except for a few d-class ones)
Yeah, the premium mods and/or asphalt 8+ are the way to go if you want to play this game
At least Asphalt 9 is at least done much better but honestly I like the game mechanics in Asphalt 8 more.
a short concise description of the problem, with a calm voice (excellent voice). but that gameplay is getting on my nerves
I used to play this game a lot, one of my favorite cars are the Lamborghini Veneno and that futuristic Mercedes Benz Silver Lightning
I used to play the hell out of this game. I was so happy to have one car above all others
The C3 corvette. It was A class and I had the car in real life. Redownloaded and my account was lost. I was given back a few things but I’ll never have that car, that feeling, and that accomplishment back.
Same thing happened to me years ago. I was really mad as well
For real, when asphalt inflated the prices of car upgrades, it was bad.
They keep removing the opportunity to advance, which sucks, especially for new comers.
everything you said is right for me i wont spend in the game if only to unlock cars i would rather spend on pass something like that and back in old days i used to grind money to buy cars thats whats make it more exciting and now cars most of the car can buy with money now they change it to another currency which is more harder to get or must spend money on it which is why i hated and lost interest playing the game, for the gameplay i choose a8 because i love more the physics here than a9 to bouncy and in terms of speed all that but yeah i guess this is the end of it they make a big mistake
played A8 in late 2014, returned in mid 2018(noticed a couple of cars with different currency, oh yeah 3 new races at the bottom of each season if i remembered correctly), made like 3 videos of A8 since it had its own recorder back then, i came back last month and my goodness it's no longer the same, some of the og cars are gone so i can't do those required car races, upgrading is a pain in the *** now, can't even upgrade when you're offline now, so many cars currency has changed to tokens or others, sadly i use my icloud back then so i lost my progress
not to mention there's only 1 lap for every race
I played Asphalt 8 since 2016-18 on TV, and 8 really liked the game
After so long, i saw that it wasnt like it used to
This is why i download older apks
one more question is that who th would spend a money to buy a car in asphalt 8 ? Instead of that they can buy a AAA racing games in steam
I used to play this game when i was around 7-8 and 13. I got maserati granturismo but currently it got removed. Along with my fav dream car, mclaren 675lt.
DUDE THE CAR I ALWAYS WANTED BECAME LIKE 10 TIME MORE EXPENSIVE!😠
After they nerfed AM Vulcan from king to decent, game died for me
R.i.p A8
The olden days of asphalt 8 airborne has gone now.
All these comments saying that 2017 onwards was prime is kinda sad ngl. The game died once they added tokens
God this game used to be so fun and challenging
and now it’s just these garbage copy paste cars and a million ads
in my opinion, the number one reason asphalt 8 died, for me at least, was the multiplayer update. you couldnt use any of your cars and had to work your way up again, but after every week or so there comes a new "season" where all your progress is completely reset, and you cant use any of your old cars. i hate, hate, HAAATE, this feature, SO MUCH. i remember the old times when i could just hop in a multiplayer game using my b class mediocre car. but thats gone now. also when i was playing the microtransactions and expensive ahh cars were already there, i didnt care about that, i just wanted to play normally with my car.
this game is so sick back in 2018, you can get class S cars bc its super affordable u jus need to grind 125 times and get 4,000 credits all the time. The Mercedes Benz Silver Lightning literally cost just 400k to 500k but just 5 years ago the price literally changed to 5 Million credits. What a huge disappointment, Gameloft.
Rip A8 The best car game of my childhood You’ll never be forgotten legend 🗿💀😭
i've been playing since the game became free on the app store(2014 as I remember), its been basically a decade since I started playing, I've seen every update and change, like cheap cars no microtransactions and etc. etc. the rest is history.. looking at the game now it still is p2w but just play it, multiplayer is not the only mode where you could get easy credits(i know the original multiplayer was deleted long ago) and I lost my old account from like 2016/17 so in 2022 where I lost my account I quit the game untill late 2023, I tried recovering the account but it was unsuccessful so I quit again, not long ago I started completely from 0 and all I can easely say is that the game is just kinda overhated and underrated(I was thinking that the game is 100% p2w but its not, you just have to play to obtain certain cars from like "monthly" passes or festivals they need the grind, its worth it if you restarted from absolutely nothing)
is it me or are the coloring on some cars just messed up in the game?
I think the game has some sort of filter, but I’m unsure about this.
I played this game for 4 years then came back a year later. I have never been so disappointed in a game ever. I came back in 2021 and it was already ruined.
I still play asphalt 8 but for some reason nowadays you just don't want to play it anymore
Also There are no new players coming to the game for some reason
i dont believe it i am still playing this is my childhood game one of the best racing games of my life..
Anyone remember bunking up money with the la Ferrari and the faleno with the Barcelona .. ( only the OG players will know about this )
Man…. I miss.
All the thing in this games is really getting really expensive like actual livery for car, upgrade, and getting the it self is hard
I still don't know how to use will cars
😢 Miss 2015 asphalt 8
All my cars are gone 😞
I played on android. Saved account and all. Decided for old time's sake to revisit the game. Lost most if not all my cars, but honestly that wasn't bad because i left the game for good when fusion coins were implemented for tuning. As if tuning wasn't already hard as a F2P player. I was competitive, but I knew it was time to move on. I don't regret anything, I'm glad it happened.
