One of the most underrated sci-fi dramas of all time. Quite possibly Sam Rcokwell's best performance to date!
The reason underrated is because MOST OF US ignored this future outcome. The outcome of near possible energy crisis, 2 degrees of Global Warming passing the tipping point and rapid paced extinction level event of species of animals in the planet.
Although those are summary in the movie, it glimpsed us nearing to our stupidity in changing our ways.
Alot of movies with him in it are underrated the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy ironman 2
Agreed. Hes a good actor. I honestly didnt see it till waaaay after its release. Im kicking my own ass for it
Totally agree, this is hands down one of my favorite Sci-fi movies of all time, spectacular film.
Three billboards is pretty great.
Sam Rockwell is one of THE most underrated talents out there atm.
I don’t think he’s underrated anymore. I mean he got an Oscar two years ago. But yeah he definitely was.
And he has some SWEET dance moves.
Yea... I first really discovered how good he is in Jesse James. Great actor
@@heavymeddle28 he is amazing in Seven Psychopaths too, the twist in that movie got me so good and its all thanks to his acting in it
At the moment?...He's been vastly underappreciated his entire career.. I've admired the man's talent since I first saw him in the 90s..
he totally fat fingered that keypad in the beginning...
i regularly listen to the moon soundtrack. its great. great movie aswell.
Agreed.
Not just with the fat-fingering, but the part about the soundtrack. It's EXCELLENT background music for when I want to complete a task.
Lol I thought the same thing! Where was he sending that pod!
Exact same thing I thought when I saw that scene xD
Welcome to the lunar industry
Kevin Spacey really touched me in this film.
Hahaha, his current situation really makes you rethink the whole joint rolling scene in American Beauty.
Lmao
Hah
How old are you ?
Funny cos hes touched a lot of kids 😂😂😂 im sorry i just had too
The Sams are fully human. Clones are fully human, as you yourself noted when you mentioned twins as naturally developed clones.
Humanity is subjective. If we turn to science, everything that exist, from people, animals, plants, rocks, sand, the moon, gravity, clouds, etc etc, were at one point in time part of the singularity we call the big bang with no real distinction from one part to the next. Differences only come about from the differences in lived experience and arrangements of molecules. At the end of the day, the same molecules that make up the keyboard or phone your typing on are the same as those that make up the hand you're typing with. This is a general western translation of indigenous philosophy.
@@noconaroubideaux9423 though science falls short of proving that- in fact, it doesn't even try to. That conclusion lies at the end of assuming that the only things out there are what we understand.
So, at the end of the day... We never know for sure, do we? :)
@@tomgeytenbeek2207 Very true. I think many forget that science doesn't prove what doesn't exist. It proves, with it's best ability, what _does_ or can exist. And one 'known' or theory doesn't unequivocally negate the possibility of another. It's impossible for humans to know 100% what can't or doesn't exist. Because we are never operating at 100% capacity of knowledge, regardless of how close (yeah, I know, that's quite paradoxical). Such situations are merely an example of what we don't yet know.
That's why I get frustrated. Because science should truly be one of the most humble of subjects. Yet that's not the reality conveyed by so many relaying or indulging in it.
OJ Was Acquitted Too Very well said! I see a lot more hubris than humility when most people confront this aspect of science, unfortunately.
@@asideofaioli4630 also if science can’t prove something exists, then it doesn’t exists, like we evolved to breathe oxygen but a being that breathes helium could be out there
Such a gem of a movie. Was blown away by this movie I expected nothing from. Shame no one has seen it. Sam performance is awsome.
This is literally one of my most loved sci-fi movies ever and I love the soundtrack. Thank you for covering it.
0:12 my man literally hit two buttons at the same time, 4 times in a row
Hilarious.. I saw it too.. What numbers did he press🤔😂😂😂
"All of the Same clones made it to earth and were now suing the company" I laughed so hard
This is a pretty good sci-fi psychological drama film that makes us beg the question, What makes us human?
Variety and the ability to recognize it, appreciate it, despise it and manipulate it.
The conflict set by nature between our divine spark of life and our earthly animal instincts
@Benjamin Keslar Same can be said of clones or sentient AI and androids whom technologically or biologically are no different than us Think synths fallout series particularly gen 3, replicants blade runner and the movie AI. So again what makes us human?
@@TAKIZAWAYAMASHITA A human being has a soul. A clone may or may not have a soul, depending on how it was cultivated. An android does not have a soul. A replicant does not have a soul. An artificial intelligence housed in a conventional computer system does not have a soul.
The more important question, and more pressing, is what makes people who think casual discussion, and acceptance, of slavery so inhuman.
I've always felt it would be interesting for clones to not go through the trope of turning on each other because they both think the other is the fake and they the original, or going through some kind of existential crisis. But rather realizing that they are each their own person with their own minds and freedom to choose their own destinies, resulting in two or more people who may look alike, but forge their own unique personalities and become more like siblings than rivals. For all the hokey ridiculousness of the movie 'The Sixth Day' with the typical campiness of a Schwartznegger film, the ending scene where The Two Arnold's are going their separate ways, the clone refers to the wife and daughter as the original's family and not his own, but the original tells him they are just as much his family too, showing that even if he's a clone, he's not any less of a person and his connection to all of them makes him family.
This is one of the best movies of our generation, thanks for covering it. Hopefully more people find it through this, this really is a must see movie.
Well human cloning is entirely possible at the moment but current morals and ethics act as a stalwart to it being actually implemented. If you can clone a sheep a human being is not that more difficult if you think about it.
Its actually possible but publicly speaking there's a law regarding that its banned.
Ok let’s make this clear their are many things that they have to right down to a tea little more difficult then you think
I knew a girl who studied genetics and had a PHD in it.
She said that it is able to be done. However there is a lot ethical issues that prevent it from being carried out.
@@Pinkeypierules Not at all, sheep are complex multi organ organisms as are we, there is very little difference when it comes to genetic replication.
Yes you still need a mom for a clone at this moment to clone you need a woman to give brith to the new baby
Moon is a phenomenal Film, and the Score is haunting.
"The clones will be incinerated after completing the lunar base." Dude thats so metal bruh
Dew it
Moon was a GEM! I've watched it out of boredom when trying to find a cool Sci-fi and was not disappointed. Planning to watch Mute as soon as possible.
Thanks for the review! very informative!
I'm starting to wonder if that one game is based off of this. Where the moon is used for energy but everyone has abandoned the project. I think the game was called: Bring us the moon
You should cover 'A cure for Wellness'. It's a very beautiful and confusing movie with a weird plot
Sure! Adding that one to the list now, thanks :)
@@filmcomicsexplained hell yeah man hell yess!! a cure for wellness is AMAZING
Saw that movie because I heard that some are calling it "The Bioshock movie we never got".
Its very interesting and weird.
Had to watch it twice just to make sure it wasn't a dream. Creapy, beautiful and another master piece.
Great film.
Yours is one of my top favourite channels. Keep up the great content, Sci fi is my favourite genre. I love all the lore and science behind your videos 👍
I almost started crying when realizing that Sam was a expendable clone, when I was watching Moon for the first time.
Oh yeah. Heard about this film but I never saw it
Stop what your doing and just watch it
Yea lol listen to, "@@trent4439" you'll be glad you did!!😂👍
think its free on prime
It’s on Netflix and Sony Crackle
*Tackles @Scott Murphyto the ground and muffles him out with a pillow* alright, this guy may be a bit of an idiot, but he's got the right idea :) watch it if it looks interesting, it's good
Wow!
I had no idea that, "Mute," took place within the same Universe until watching this video!
I'm going to have to go watch it immediately now! 😂👍
(Edit; i still haven't watched it yet lol chores)
(Edit again; I still haven't watched it yet. I forget this time. 😂)
sad to say it's nowhere near as good as moon 😕
Waste of time. You see Sam Bell in court on a TV for 5 seconds. The rest of the movie is terrible
Your edits are cringe af.
Nobody cares if you did or didn't watch a movie that had next to nothing to do with what this video is about.
I never knew there was a sequel!
@@andrewsmith3257 not exactly a sequel, just a story set within the same universe. sadly, as it's been mentioned before, it isn't as good. it certainly had a lot of potential, but it ended up being quite underwhelming.
Could you do a video on the sci fi film, Sunshine.
When it first came out it was a bright ray of sunshine in an otherwise sunless sea.
It's a horrid movie and idk if this channel did it but I've wat God it explained on UA-cam somewhere
Which sci fi film? And don’t call me sunshine.
Such a great and underrated SCI-FI film.
Rockwell is awesome. He's nailed it in everything he's ever been in.
Thank you so much for explaining this one, probably one of the most underrated sci-fi movies
Like the War of the worlds 2005, and the underwater aliens from another movie
The underwater aliens you're referring to are from The Abyss.
@@shainewhite2781 exactly
10:04-10:07 "Technically speaking, Gerti and both Sams aren't human"
Excuse me? A human clone would still be fully human, just as the identical twin of a human is a human.
Natural humans I guess
In theory, clones don't have souls. So no, they aren't human.
Biologically yes, but the question of their “humanity” is a matter of philosophical opinion
@@Hayley-kp6wt Is it? What's the difference between the original and the clone that causes the clone to lose it's humanity?
@@gaiterat6187 Why wouldn't they have souls?
Think you missed a pretty big name off your list of influences for this and didn't even mention him for blade runner: Philip K. Dick!! He was the master of this type of real world integrated Sci Fi.
“Greed has burned a hole in their hearts that will never be filled! They will never have enough!”
I think this little quote from Hellboy 2's Prince Nuada is appropriate. I mean when people/companies makes hundreds of millions a year while still seeking to make more? What do you even do with all that money...
One can make an infinite amount of money and I don't mind CEO's making millions. The issue I have is when they make their fortunes at others expense.
@@skyranger1366 Once you really break down what wealth is and how our economy works, you cannot make millions of dollars if not at the expense of others.
Ripping people off and captalism are different things. Under captalism every one gets a better life. What we currently have is ceo's getting rich by taking the money that should be going to their workers wages and funneling into their paycheck. Thats why the average worker salery has barly budged in the last few decades and the ceo has risen 300 times what their workers make.
@@skyranger1366 Literally everyone has said that their economic system works to provide people a better life. None do a good job of it. Capitalism included. Capitalism is, literally, an economic system based in unmitigated competition over resources. Someone gotta lose.
with money comes the Power to do what ever they want ,when they want, to whoever they want and not face consequences.
I remember watching this back in the day; I saw the twist coming just about ten minutes before it actually happened on screen (I'm kinda of slow like that) but it still blew me away.
A top 20 movie of mine for sure, I'm glad it has gotten some exposure of late, especially as a great example of how underrated Sam Rockwell is as others have pointed out. Thanks for the great video detailing it.
GREAT VIDEO AS ALWAYS
LIKE ALWAYS ITS BEEN A PLEASURE.
thank you for remembering me about this underated movie and your psychology speech was spot on!
Actually love the movie. Very intriguing and the Best Depiction of SCI FI before the Martian
This has to be one of your best videos, I really like how deep this is.
I catched this movie on TV without knowing anything about it, and it shocked me how good it was, is by far one of the best expriences I had watching a film in my life.
Great job man! I couldn't believe it when I first stumbled across this masterpiece. You have captured the essence of this film and if I hadn't seen it before I certainly would do on the basis of this review.
This film stayed with me for a long time... really, really well made.
Your intro hit the nail on the head. We've only got our singular blue marble, and in the end we are just hurting ourselves. The Earth has survived worse things and will keep spinning, whether we are still around or killed ourselves off it won't matter much to the planet
I've been waiting for this video for 9 years. Thank you!
"Moon" and "Mute" films are connected ??? thats my rewatch tomorrow then
When I saw this I started by not expecting much from it, but it is a fantastically made film with fantastic acting.
I really enjoyed it and it would be a shame if people just passed it by as it is really good.
One of my favorite films
Sam Rockwell - *ALWAYS* a win! Plus the awesome score from Clint Mansell definitely helped to make a great film *absolutely exceptional!*
Cheers for choosing to explore this underrated sci-fi classic.
This movie really messed with me...I loved it!
Can you cover the Cube series? Cube, Cube Zero, and Hyper Cube?
@Filmcomicsexplained yes do this
Love this movie - breaks my heart every time
I love your channel man how much dedication you put into studying these films is astounding your first video i watched pulled me in instantly i love your work keep it up man
One of my favourite sci-fi movies and soundtracks. So glad you've done a video on it!
From Moon to JoJo Rabbit, Sam Rockwell Is a goddamn talented actor
Congratulations! The three year contract is now over!

This was BEAUTIFUL!! Good Job!!
There is a game very similar to this called Deliver Us The Moon. It's a very good game, and I highly recommend people to play it
Could you please do a video about Judas' Breed from Mimic and or the movie itself.
Also, great videos as always.
Mimic is a great movie.

This music is stright fire im sitting here bopping my ass off
Been waiting for this!
Waited a long time for this.
This video was very deep (and not talking about the movie directly, but it’s themes and how they are directed ad our world).
2009 was a great year for sci-fi... You have Moon, Avatar and District 9
Word 👍
District 9 is one of my all time favorites
Moon and District 9 are phenomenal! Avatar is pretty but but not even in the same league.
An excellent, little gem of a film. Thanks for your further illumination/analysis of Moon.
Always makes me laugh when people say we need more renewable energy sources. Then completely forget the fact that those “renewable energy sources” require strip mining and child labor to be of any use. Not to mention the toxic aftermath of their disposal.
Never heard of this movie but now I gotta watch it and it’s part 2
Never heard too it’s been decade
It's "part 2" is nowhere close to being good. *Moon* is beyond amazing. Words cannot describe how good it is. Mainly because of Sam Rockwell. Holy crap, he's great. Like watching 2 hours of Heath Ledger's Joker performance. Not saying they're similar characters or roles but equally rivetting to watch.
*Mute* though... LOL!!!! Don't bother. It's not really a sequel at all. It's a sequel like how *10 Cloverfield Lane* and *Cloverfield Paradox* is a sequel to the original *Cloverfield.*
I've never heard of it either but it seems fascinating
You should do the horror game Visage. The second chapter came out. Plz do it.
Adding it to the list now mate, thanks :)
One of my all time favorites. Just outstanding.
We need more cautionary tales like this. Large corporations should never be trusted " to do the right thing".
Has anyone requested a look at the U.S.S. Delta Team aka Wolfpack from RE Operation Raccoon City? I know the game was not well-received, but I absolutely love the team members.
Same here
You should do a video on explaining the zombie virus of the movie Pontypool
This was a great recap. I had no idea Mute was associated with Moon now I am definitely giving it another try
At first, my friends were skeptical of this movie, but by the end, they loved it.
The phycho's from borderlands could be interesting to learn about :)
Make a vid about the flayed/the mind flayer virus thingy (stranger things 3)
This is or. It my favourite films of all time. Excellent dissection!
Another great video:)
This is actually one of the first of the many old movies I binge watched I think 7-8 years ago! Really glad Moon is a really good movie. It got me more into scifi movies.
Was wondering if you're planning to make a movie about Sunshine since it quite fits in with the movies you've mentioned in the film.
Also, I really felt bad that Nestle is doing that despite the good image they put out.
Could you cover the 1975 classic Jaws?
The thought of clones freak me out. I don't know why but thinking of a clone of me makes me feel dread. Like I'm being replaced. When I watched this movie it just made my fear of cloning feel justified because this poor man... Men? These clones have the memory of the original and feels the same feeling for their wife and daughter only to realize they have been living on with out them, with the real character. Sends chills down my spine. Being forgotten. Being left alone. The world and your loved ones moving on with out you. How could you not be scared of the idea? It was a very well made movie and as you can tell I felt strongly when the characters felt. The actor was amazing and the movie was just well made. I thought about this movie for a very long time after
Moon is a spectacular Film, and the soundtrack is hauntingly beautiful.
Lol you must really mean this because you said the same thing 3 months before only slightly different.
@@noconaroubideaux9423 That's either odd or sad, since I had no memory of the previous comment lmao.

That's a good movie!!.
Megatron 95 Have you heard of the High Elves?

I had no idea this film even existed. Thank you for posting this video.
The problem with renewable energy like solar or wind is that it's impossible to run a city off it, nuclear is the best bet currently.
There is also the problem of storing the energy batteries are not clean to make and are extremely bad for the environment.

Thank you for covering this film. I absolutely love this movie. I did not know that Mute was tied to this film, thank you for that tid bit.
we arent running out of fossil fules , we have constantly discovered ways to retap old deposits ...
We're not "stubborn" in adopting renewable resources. We're using them as much as we can. They just aren't very good at supplying a modern civilization's needs.
Hey Nyat how's it going hope your well and having fun, keep up the awesome videos I'm here as lifelong fan 😁

At times I can agree with the Umbrella corporation...
Did you really just show the polar bears as an example of a species dying out?
Are they not?
@@bobbyboucher7426 more polar bears than ever before.
@No Name if theyre more polar bears than there have ever been before it sounds to me that theyre thriving more than suffering.
Polar bear populations have been rebounding recently after enacting controls and quotas, but they are still classified as vulnerable and will face increasing threats as the climate changes. "Thriving" is nowhere near an accurate description.
