- Early prototype voice clips extracted from the PS3 port of Mass Effect, though they should be present in the 360 and PC version. I thought these were unused but as pointed out in the comments, these actually can be heard if you stand next to the bar counter at Flux.
"Walla" is an acting term used to refer to the murmur of background characters in a scene. The end of this video shows a human example of this extracted from the same file. These are meant to be played in the background when walking around a bar, not sure if that was always the intention or if its reused from an axed KotOR style dialogue system where most aliens speak their native language.
The filenames show which voice clips belong to what species. The non-human species sounded very different early in development.

You know what I know that was a joke however it could be an excellent way to have a private chat with somebody without anybody else understanding.
So no one, cause everyone seems to have implanted it into their skin in the ME universe. Even the poorest and wildest Vorchas...

If anything, this proves that Mordin is actually speaking English since he sounds nothing like other "English speaking" Salarians.
Due to his singing part in ME 2, I have always believed he was speaking english

What's great is, as pointed out these likely are totally canon languages of the various species, just without every bit of tech having real-time VI translation. Seriously in the books it goes into detail that everything from an omni-tool to chips implanted in your clothes will pickup and translate any known species language or dialect right to you. I miss that kind of attention to detail in sci-fi...Moreso I just miss Mass Effect, classic Mass Effect anyway.
The KotOR flashbacks are SO intense. We would've been sick of these by the time we got Spectre status.
Ah yes, my favorite Mass Effect race, randomalien. Up there with the best character, randomguy.
But seriously, how bad would it have been if all the aliens sounded like this, with subtitles for all their dialogue like in KOTOR?
It would've been great. I actually would've preferred it.
because in KOTOR there were only so many alien lines that they often ended up repeating dialogue even if the subtitles were something else

I heard the turian one at Flux in my last playthrough lmao I thought i was losing it every time and would run the bar perimeter trying to find the vorcha screaming into my headphones
Shepard hears Garrus without his translator on for about 39 seconds before breaking down laughing. She can no longer take him seriously when talking. Ever.

@@nagger8216 i want you to look me in the eye and check if male shep can romance garrus, and thus be in a relationship with him. Secondly, my canon shepard is female. The joys of an RPG with a gender selection, canon can be either way.

you hear these in the bar background if you have ears. they intended like for the Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic for each alien race to have their own language but ditched it due to the huge amount of work that would require
It's been a long time since I played ME1 so I honestly don't remember if these were used in the final game but these were extracted from a file that doesn't exist in the 360 or PC version, only the PS3 version which has several prototype files left in by the team that ported it. Unless duplicates of these audio clips exist in another file I don't think these ones were actually used.
@@RedSonRay nope they are in the background noise of the bar. they were used its just the ps3 had the beta files out in the open where people could find them.

You're correct, I just double checked and heard the voice clips on Flux when standing near the bar counter. Easy to miss if you aren't looking for them but they are there. Thank you for the heads up, now I'm curious if there's more clips but I'm not sure where they're located in the 360 version.

God I understood the aliens more than the drunks.
what's freaky to me is that every other alien has just one voice talking. Asari have multiple voices all talking at once.
To me, this suggests one Asari talking sounds like two or three at once.
It's like how in the final product, the Turians have a "dual voice" situation going on.
This is fun but I'm really glad that they went with the idea of a universal translator in the final version. It was a smart budget decision in KOTOR but listening to Shakespearian family drama as told by Wookies was still unintentionally hilarious to me at times.
Fun trivia: I think the writers or someone in the ME team mentioned everyone being translated in real time. Like with an omni-tool or another device, so everyone in the galaxy can talk without trouble, even less graced individuals like the Batarians or the Vorcha. Would've loved to hear their voices in-game at least one time for each race, but ME had some budget problems since the beginning :T

@@destructor3152 I'm pretty it's just that Asari are just found universally attractive by most people and everyone just see something common in Asari with their own species. Like in that same conversation the Turian says Asari looks like them because of the head fringes; humans see those same fringes too.
But it's not same for everyone. Like Rukar the Krogan don't see everyone's obsession with Shaira because Asari are "soft" and "nothing to hold on to"

I feel like I've tried to talk to Mr as_env_drunkguy on more than a couple of occasions in my lifetime. There's propably people out there that remember me as that same guy.
My heart goes out to the voice actors who had to go through that 😂 We're very lucky they went the omni-tool route! The Turians sound absolutely atrocious!

Probably not, this was just background noise Bioware made for the E3 2006 trailers and left in the game files for the PS3 version of ME1

I was incorrect, at least some of these are used and can be heard at Flux. There might actually be more but I'm not sure where they're located in the 360 version. These were extracted from a file called bar1.isb that doesn't exist in the 360 version, only in the PS3 version. But they can be heard so they must exist somewhere.
@RedSonRay i know i never heard them and i played the trilogy originally on ps3. I even managed to sequence break the turian rescue mission on tuchanka in me3 by killing that flying reaper when you fist see it before it can destroy the barrier between you and the turian squad, which soft locks the mission. I 100%d the first game and second game too. Maybe my copy bugged out or something or these audio lines got patched out later but i definitely didnt hear them

I wasn't aware of it either. It's very easy to miss unless you're deliberately looking for it and standing in the right place.
