  • I came up with three more overall designs. I called them lazy roses, soap bubbles and swirl play. The give very nice texture, they are easy to quilt and mistakes can be easily hidden. Perfect patterns to start with your quilting adventure 😊

I like quilting at a slower speed. I know I can quilt fast but then it is a bit sloppy and I have the impression, the quilt did not get enough attention and love.... I am kind of silly that way ❤❤❤

The lazy rose is great...it looks like a cabbage rose that we have in the USA, ornamental floer, hence, Rose Salad! Thank you for sharing you thoughts.

Love this set. Especially the Soap Bubbles. As a “planner”, arbitrary stitching is hard for me - disastrous actually. Lol. My brain sees these Circles as Planned-Arbitrary and therefore accepts it. Thanks for your videos. Very VERY helpful as I continue to learn and improve my FMQ. I’m sharing your Channel link with my Monday Sew Group. We’re going to help each other learn FMQ!

Thank you for recommending my channel! Wonderful!
We all have our unique voice. Regular and planned stiches are slower and need more planning so I do them less often as sit down is not as good for precision work as long arm. However, there are so many incrdeible desings where you need planning and exactness. Please check Jodi Robinson on Instagram. You will like her style

This one turned out really good. I love pebbles and circles but quilting them the proper way takes so much time! this one is the more relaxed and forgiving version. Give it a try!❤❤❤

Nice, but would be so much more helpful to see how you do it on a full sized quilt rather than a swatch. The challenge isn't how to FM the design but how to do it while wrangling a quilt.

I put already one or two videos out there. ua-cam.com/video/VQqvLqqh_eU/v-deo.html
I tried to show there my set-up and explain how I do it. There is one more on drunkard's path classical quilt as well.
      ua-cam.com/video/m6AYT0X-CJM/v-deo.html
I also made few on baby quilts.
Why I am not making more on large quilts: first reason is I have a limited space for my care and light. I cannot afford making large quilts from solids for video purpose only. And you cannot see what I am doing that well when the fabric is with pattern and the thread is blending. My videos are to show how to quilt a pattern and how this pattern develops.
How I do that: Before I had my M7 I had my Horizon sunk in the table so I had an extended surface. The biggest challange in quilting on domestic machcne is that the quilt can get cought on a corner and suddenly you cannot move. Or that it falls from the table. This is why my table is pushed agains the wall and I have a flexible arm with a clamp to hold my quilts and take the weight off. I will need to think about another video on that topic. I hope the other videos will help!

I am watching your videos from before I subscribed. This is perfect for the HUGE quilt with sashing and borders that I am doing now. I named it Garden Fantasy. 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤😊 I also love the sound of your machine. Very comforting sound. The music is more relaxing, but the stitching in real time is a happy energy sound. 🎶💐💖

I am not using a stich regulator becaous it adjusts all the time how fast the machine works. I like my speed constant. One could say I quilt by hearing!
I am happy to hear I could provide inspiration and ideas! Happy quilting❤❤❤

What size needle and thread do find works best for FMQ

    • @quiltingnerd
      @quiltingnerd  9 місяців тому +3

Tricky question. It depends on your machine, thread and quilting sandwich you have. I used to use 75 needle for most of the 50 wt threads I have, but that was on my smaller Horizon. On the larger Janome M7 I like to use 80 or 90. The machine prefers it. Test all three sizes and compare the results. As for the thread I use either 50 or 40 wt threads, or an embroidery polyester. I have here more limited selection than in USA.❤❤❤
