Just wanted to give you guys an update to this story.... We spent the better part of the day saving Private Ryan. It was a long strenuous hike out with him being scared and trying to claw and bite us the whole way. We took him to Carols animal friends at the Wildlife in need center. They did everything they could to save Ryan. He had an old compound fracture on his right humerus, and wounds next to the fracture were badly infected. Unfortunately, despite our best intentions, Private Ryan did not make it... Kind of depressing... I was really rooting for him. Sometimes despite effort and intentions we fail. I take a little relief in knowing he died a better death than he would of on that island with no water or food...
Awesome job guys. Update sucks.you guys did more then 99 percent of the population would have done props for that gentleman.
That sucks, yeah we try! I tried saving a button buck once that had a broken back. Turn out when I found a rehab to save him, he was shot with a 22 in the spine and had to be put down, almost ruined me but I came out of it. Even being hunters we respect the animals and love them any animal specially injured.
Sad end to one of natures beautiful hunters. Thank you Dan and crew for trying. Not many would attempt it.
That sucks about pvt. Ryan but at least you guys did try to get him help. Good on you guys for making the effort.

Great content as usual. I’m always learning something from you. Heading out this afternoon to check an area. I didn’t realize I was able to put up cameras on public. Gotta read the rules again I guess. Sorry Private Ryan didn’t make it. At least you were able to put an end to his struggle.

Out squirrel hunting one day with few buddies. Walk up on wounded owl that couldn't fly. We tossed down squirrel and he jump on it almost immediately an started tearing it up. Must been starving. We went back up house called place came out and got him
Great effort too bad he didn’t make it. Kind of funny right after you found the glove you saw the owl. Like saying give a hoot don’t pollute.

Sucks to hear about the owl but at least ya tried. I saved a owl once i threw my coat over it and carried it out. I had leather gloves on and its talons almost peirced them. It had the same power squeezing my hand as a full grown man. A place that rescues them said it had a airsac problem but recovered fully.

Crazy I wonder how long he’s been flopping around in the swamp. What I don’t get is that what are hunters doing saving animals? It makes no sense! Conserving nature? That’s right people the North American model thank you Teddy Roosevelt.
Sad that he didn't make it. He seemed to have a lot of fight in him. Kudo's to you guys for picking up other people's trash and trying to save the owl. Enjoyed the scouting trip.
At what time seasonally, do you stop scouting as to not spook the deer or at least put them on edge. I'm thinking not past August

Great effort! Just goes to show that hunters do care about wildlife as much if not more than most! You are all good men. Very cool.
Probably more than most, the money generated from hunting, and hunting/fishing licenses is the top method of funding land and wildlife conservation and management, and also keeps animal populations and local habitats healthy.

Hey Dan, the Sandhill Wildlife Area in Wisconsin is allowing a 2 day archery hunt for successful applicants. You will get special tags, so you won't have to burn your regular tags. Maybe apply and see what happens.
