This area of Nebraska reminds me of one of my primary public hunting areas I just began deer hunting mid season this year almost 10k acres and 80% of it is killer good bedding that is an absolutely impenetrable combination of trees that 80% of the trees suck fkr getting a stand in as most are to small or just wont take a stand, 8-10' tall shrubs and head high multi floral rose, head high weads all combined are as dence as a brick wall you can not possibly access in season witout announcing to every deer in ear shot of your presence that is then surrounded by nothing but standing corn and CRP Place is very very frustrating and close to 90% impossible to do hang and hunts unless you prepared spots during nonhunting months And all areas of less than impossible access get pounded Was watching this video in hopes it would give me ideas on how to hunt my areas but you guys are struggling and having a harder time than I actually are because at least 10-20% of my areas clearly aren't good bedding habitat but good Lord the entire area you guys are hunting is good if not great bedding as well as without a strong wind to cover your noise nearly inaccessible without spooking deer You guys really have my admiration for staying at it as hard as you all are
Got my first bow kill last week. A 93lb doe on the Savanah River in SC. My arrow broke off but it was the fletching end and it stayed in the deer. Only a little blood on the arrow and none on the ground. Found the doe dead 200 yards from my shot. It was a heart shot. 25 yard shot with a 125 grain fix blade. Glad to finally break the ice. I usually witch to rifle later in the season but that experience grew my love for bow hunting.
Playing the slo-mo back frame by frame looked to me the hit was neck, near where body and neck meet. Reason I say that is because as the deer spun away the lighted nock was sticking up pretty high pretty much above the weeds.
Eyes can play tricks on where you think it impacted but blood like that and broke off arrow can also be from hitting backstrap above shoulders. If the deer reacts quick enough their shoulder will bind the arrow up and snap it. Sadly ive seent it lol
That much arrow there’s gotta be blood. Are you sure you’re on the correct trail? I have the same type of terrain. I know how hard it is to know what trail they’re on.
No dog Shane? Bummer. --it happens Eric. Glad you seen him. He's probably licking his wounds for another battle. This time both warriors left the battle. I just had my second encounter with a monster blacktail. First archery and last evening rifle, clean miss. He stopped, looked over his shoulder, snubbed me and he was gone.😓. Season just started and now he really knows who's after him. Too much education. If I dont get him I pray he passes his Gene's again.
Hang in there eric and keep the chin up. We know things can go wrong and they do. Honestly have almost the same exact story myself from a couple years ago. Similar shot, same broken arrow comparison, no blood, half a dozen plus miles the next day after calling off work, uneasy stomach. Hate to see it but its the truth of the matter sometimes. Its not about judging people's mistakes but how they handle them.
Feel for you Eric. I'm not being critical of Eric, just pointing out again that any shot over 17 or 18 yards gets much tougher. I have seen very few poor shots at short range ( under 18 yards). Stick with it Eric, I predict you will get a good one around Halloween. Good luck fellas
eric why don’t you guys use a drive to look for your deer?!?! i know it great using drive to locate killed buck, but only if it’s not illegal to use?!?! i never deterred from shooting the shoulder blade with my 60lbs.. every buck i shot in the shoulder, it’ll always break its whole shoulder… how many pounds are you shooting and what type of broad head are you using?!!
It was a non lethal shot. It didn’t hit the front shoulder or there would have been a very noticeable crack. If you’ve ever hit one in the shoulder there is no mistaking the sound
@@frankspataro9714 I believe in single bevels. I think a complete pass through is always the goal. Shot placement was likely ok, but the arrow just didn't get in deep enough to hit what it needed to
You do what ya like but it's a game fractions of a inch right or left up or down it's way more important than how deep it goes anyone that has done it a long time has to be able to see that it sucks you lost it but it happens especially if you shoot the small diameter heads and hit meat infront of shoulder miss the jug and he is gone forever good luck keep after em it will most likely live and a gun hunter will kill it and complain about fester sticks to everyone been happening since the 80s learn from it and move on
It comes down to knowing what your capable of and it's clear that the single bevel or what ever was tried didn't do it this time and would of been better off with a bigger hole and a chance at the jug or better yet one lung liver you would of seen the deer fall or atleast lay down and die even gut shot you most likely would get the deer nothing is perfect it sucks to all of us when it happens i might of done the same thing but I think I would of waited to see what unfolded that deer could of got away clean or died
@@frankspataro9714 we never know for sure what we are capable of that's why we allow for( human error). A larger cutting diameter gives a tiny bit better chance of catching an artery. Pass through penetration ensures reaching everything in the arrows path. On a quartering to shoulder shot that path includes vitals, your broadhead simply has to penetrate deep enough. Single bevel broadhead will out penetrate all others. Structurely strong , broadhead must remain in 1 piece. High foc and high total arrow weight also help.
One of the most unethical recovery attempts I've seen posted. Sending the most unexperienced guys there that's color blind to look alone for a deer with more than enough penitration. Bad shots have seemed common last few years here. What's the point of hunting with "one of the best trackers in the country " if he doesn't even go to help. Of course he made an equally bad shot. Bad shots happen but the rest is just head shaker.
Following up on the deer until you come across the deer alive and not bleeding the next day seems pretty ethical to me. At that point nothing more could be done. Ive personally been on 100s of tracking jobs and that deer was followed up upon until it was obvious it was not going to die from its wound.

Place is very very frustrating and close to 90% impossible to do hang and hunts unless you prepared spots during nonhunting months
And all areas of less than impossible access get pounded
Was watching this video in hopes it would give me ideas on how to hunt my areas but you guys are struggling and having a harder time than I actually are because at least 10-20% of my areas clearly aren't good bedding habitat but good Lord the entire area you guys are hunting is good if not great bedding as well as without a strong wind to cover your noise nearly inaccessible without spooking deer

No hate bro. You did a hell of a lot more than most would have. Good for you. S*** happens!Keep your head up, keep plugging along.😊

Happens to the best of us. The highs and lows of bow hunting.
Being confident in the shot you take and trusting your instincts is the right decision. Tough break, it happens.
Really is intresting to see how everyone goes about it. Wonderful set of videos.

Keep your head up Eric! Like you said, you'll learn from it and come back better. Mistakes happen, especially in bowhunting.
Had that hit w a rifle. Quarter to, hit the FAR shoulder in front of the brisket. Had to follow up 12 hours later to harvest. Non lethal w a bow.

Never had the issue here in Wyoming cattle everywhere doesn’t phase the whitetail or Muley’s at all
Keep your chin up Eric! Sending ya some positive vibes my friend!
unfortunate you were tracking alone. an extra set of eyes always helps
Been waiting on a video! Sucks not finding one, but we’ve all been there. And that one is probably going to survive. To me it looked low and forward.
Go down.. I wasn't sure if this was from the darkness of the hotel room? I was relieved to see it wasn't! Hahaha
lol My GF thinks I was watching porn.
😂😂classic
Keep grinden my man
No hate from this guy Eric tuff break keep on hunting
A good Dan dinner and a good night rest. Put the Metal in them tomorow go get them Eric.

That buck smelled that jelepano chili your dad was cooking back at the truck and came a looking.
Been waiting all day , i had a feeling a video would drop
Always a tough pill to swallow but onto the next one and maybe get him again next year!
Man we been waiting. Thanks!🙏
I was really hoping for Eric
Live and learn Eric, patients is a virtue, but its hard sometimes.
Put my new beast sticks together today! Ready to go 🦌 🦌 🦌
You'll get the next one Eric...
Dang that sucks Eric, at least you know. Get after another!
Love the glasses buddy

Is it legal to look for a hit deer with a drone ?.
Im not sure, but Shane and Ryan who own the TRAKR app said none were in the area
Just got back from a sit. Dinner and Dan.
Absolutely LOATH ground blind hunting with a gun beyond loath it with a bow
woohoo!
Happens to all hunters mate, chin up. Move on. It's tuff but it happens buddy.
Bummer, quartering too shots are not ideal.
The tracking guys didn’t bring a tracking dog? Missed opportunity for them to showcase the trakr thing. Eric, I bet the wind pulled your arrow right
Can't hunt if you're babysitting a dog. 🤷♂️
I wonder what would have happened if Eric had a Ranch Fairy 650 grain single bevel arrow set up. 650 seems so darn heavy.
I have shot a few heavy bucks with heavy single bevels, always a pass through so far.
Plan for plan B
It would have got there even slower, blew further right by the wind, and missed even worse I reckon
It was a non lethal shot. It didn’t hit the front shoulder or there would have been a very noticeable crack. If you’ve ever hit one in the shoulder there is no mistaking the sound
Dan and his buddy laughs about high FOC. But they also wound deer. They might of got them deer! You can't tell me it wouldn't have made a difference!
Big cut mech head might made the difference never know

“Goooo dooon”
Drone Deer Recovery or the dog best effort.
None were available
@@thehuntingbeast That’s surprising with the season open, I guess not around that area.
Rifle country
Boooooooooom!!!!! I had a feeling!!!!happy it was a success. Thanks for sharing.
