That is the most intoxicating thing I have heard! I’ve been to some of the poker runs in Charlevoix, Michigan, watching about 100 of these fast boats accelerating away. It is pure heaven.
Twin 500plus cubic inch engines. Probably drank fuel like crazy. They didn’t seem to push it too hard. From what I could read before they got too blurry was about 45 kts at about 3700 rpm. I bet she had a bit more to give if you really pushed it. Must have felt incrideble. Just dreaming now. What a boat
What do you think the top speed is on that Scarab? I'm sure it was a head turner wherever you guys went, huh?? Was he giving the throttle a quick nudge just for effect/sound or is there a reason?
Every video that says original Miami vice boat has aquamarine blue on the roof of the cabin nose, but in the show it was white. Did they repaint it after the show?
I worked for I worked for Wellcraft Marine back in the day I put the engines in several Wellcraft scarab‘s and I put the first set of engines in that particular boat😢 I worked for Wellcraft marine for three years building Wellcraft scarab‘s and a 310 sun cruiser and the 26 sedan
Hmmm, 38 feet, 1300hp and only does 70+ mph. An Allison, 20 foot, model 2002 with a 275hp Mercury will do 102 mph with 2 people and fishing gear. Just sayin'. Yeah, I know this one will haul ass in ocean swells, but still only around 70. Love your boat!! Sounds and looks AWSOME!
@@elituko it was a deep V and it wasn't a step Hall yes it was a heavy boat but out the ocean you could do 70 miles an hour and not even spill your beer in a foot swells it was faster in rougher the water. Fountain boats had that steptoe and they were very fast where the Scarab started making the step tall but it first did not but that heavy boat in the ocean we would go out in Galveston and it was so fun it's fun to be hit a foot swell and not even slow down and we drinking a beer and now you spill it you take a bass boat hella bass bow to 80 but smooth like water only.I remember on the lake then 70 and bastos trying to keep up with us at Texoma the water would get rough it was almost like an ocean and the bass boat would be bouncing all over the water fixing a flip and crash lots of light cruise and 8 foot swells and not even spill your beer
@@elituko my 38 Scarab with twin 500 had 485 promoter don't know if you know what hp's are in what motors but a 500 HP carbureted motor had 485 per motor.don't know what you're talkin to me but never said I had 1100 horsepower
Not even close to 100. 100 on the water in a boat that size takes more than twice the HP that boat has, or you have to get to staggered engines for weight distribution and where the power meets the water--more in the center. Not to put the boat down at all--70 mph on water is equal to maybe 110-120 on land. When I had my 85 mph Fountain and my Vette, the boat at 85 mph took more attention, reflexes and power (625 vs 300) than the Vette at 150 mph -- and I ran both of them at those speeds. The water is constantly changing and waves come in different directions every second. If you run in anything other than a protected lake (meaning 1-3 foot waves instead of maybe 6" chop) you learn to look hundreds of feet to 1/4 to 1/2 mile in front of you at 70-85 in a boat so you have time to set it up or adjust your speed when you are 200-400 feet from it, or you are likely to have a really rocky or worse ride. The percent of boats that will run a true 100 mph is maybe .1% of all speed boats out there and even less than 10% of fast boats. At 100 on water, you need goggles and a better windscreen, and if you are smart, at least a half canopy. Your eyes will water so bad at 70-80, you can't see at all at 100 so you will need to be completely out of the wind.
Unlike the Ferrari's of the show, even the fake Daytona for " beater! " scenes, " were kept as Hollywood icon pieces, They let this Welcraft rot and I'm sure the restoration was MAJOR. Electrical, engines, etc... B.O.A.T. BREAK OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND!. What happened to the boat in the original 2 part pilot movie in 1984??? It said STINGER on the side! I wonder what happened to that? I had a friend on Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota that had the exact boat but smaller. Cant remember if it was a twin engine, twin screw " Gofast " off Shore Power "Boat like that. It was a Chris Craft or a Welcraft??? The one Tubbs fled in and Crocket out witted him knowing where a low, no wake bridge was? He chased it in that slow 84 Z28????? I had an 87 IROC BTW. My Dad had an 86 IROC. 5.7 Litre V8 TPI's. Shoulda stored mine after my dumb 20 year old self wrecked my driving record! I was born with a lead foot. Anyhoo it is great to see the second, most used in the show, Welcraft brought back with a vengeance & I'm sure many $thousands later. KUDOS. j'ai acheté ce bateau neuf je le reconnais par son pare brise plus haut que l'original je l'ai acheté neuf en 1986 et revendu a un collectionneur de la région de Chicago
We did poker runs for about nine years seven or eight of Summer I cannot believe y'all are not wearing some kind of Life flotation even the cool ones they just barely go down your neck and around your waist aren't very bulky like a regular life as they'll save your life if you bounce out we had a friend that bounced out of his boat and died hit his head on the hole from awake bounce right out of the rear of the boat by the time they went back and got him he was dead he had sunk ground y'all should have some kind of flotation device on. It's unsafe to go those speeds and not have anything on
I love this boat that much that every time it comes up on my feed, about once a month, I watch all five parts. She’s cool, fast and arrogantly loud.
You are officially my favourite UA-cam viewer! :D
Same here. I've ridden in a big Fountain. Now I have the fever!

Damn, that's one hell of an exhaust note.
Love those cams at idle too!
What a beauty. The color scheme is really true to the TV show.
Not as powerful as the new supercharged boats, but those NA big block Chevy engines sound beautiful.
1:58 just fabulous!! The noise!! If the devil had a boat it would would sound like that!

I had to buy the theme off Apple to play and watch the video without sound. AWESOME! Now I know where you picked up that annoying word!! LOL
I'd love to see a video on the history of the boat and it's restoration.
If you search UA-cam, I think there is one somewhere
Don Johnson actually did much of his own driving! Their were actually 3 scarabs used in the series. Chris crafts were early in the pilots.
Yes he did! A very keen boater. There were a lot more than 3, there were two new boats per season (once they switched to Scarabs)
That sound! Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching! And for your great Miami Vice trailer videos 🙂
I wonder what happened to the boat from the first season of the series 🤔
this thing is doing well over 90 mph and holding
What do you think the top speed is on that Scarab? I'm sure it was a head turner wherever you guys went, huh?? Was he giving the throttle a quick nudge just for effect/sound or is there a reason?
From memory, I think it was said to be good for 70mph plus. We saw 60mph briefly and there was plenty left!
If I did not have at least motorcycle glasses on I would have not been able to see.
One of three boats used. The hull of one, un-rigged is in Freeport longvisland. Originally they used a Chriscraft stinger 38

I've put some shots of the Scarabs actually in the TV Series on my channel - check it out (they used several and they varied in the details)
I believe there was a 38KV with a white deck in the episodes with Sheena Easton. Most, however, were this green color.

Awesome! 🙂
Don Johnson said that he had his own boat racing team for a while during and after the show.
How many quarts of oil does each engine hold?
That’s a hot boat I’d love to own one
he had to been doing at least 125 mph that damn boat will move and move damn fast
Fuel cost for 10mins on the water Is!!!!!! sure one of the crew stands on the stern chucking dollar notes in the water😃👍🇬🇧
Chucking hundred dollar notes more like!
what motors was in this ? i had twin 500s in my 38 scarab
They are GM 9.1 litre V8 running 4 inch straight through exhausts. 650hp each!

Their were 2 stingers, the very first boat was a shorter stinger ,then the 39 stinger, the scarab 38 was the final boat

Not sure a vest would do any good except maybe locating ones body.
Well Crocket and Tubbs never wore them on the show either.
