    They look cool! Your garden will look great this summer.

      I hope so, I cannot wait to plant them out, but the weather is a bit schizophrenic at the moment one day sunny and warm and the next everything is frozen again

      @@jochen.allardice-grein I understand what you mean! I live in Southern California. I took all my leafless plumerias out of the garage three weeks ago. We had a sudden heatwave (36/38C) for a couple days with very harsh sun. Even though I had set out umbrellas, a dozen of my plants got burned and damaged. At this time of the year, we are usually in the low twenties.

    You're Great ! I'll tell the few people I do talk to about you. I did have a question though, so I bought a red banana plant from store . Over winter it's been inside and doing alright. I wanted to propagate it but I'm not sure how? Anything similar to cannas? Those are my favorite just FYI . And nobody knows how to care for them here in Iowa..ufhhh hate this state, I was told by a master Gardner that cannas only bloom once than you must cut off the entire stem.. yes.. a master Gardner. Anyways I'm done rambling.

      Thank you 😀with the red Banana (Ensete) you need to chop it, brutal but it really works, but in your case I would wait till the end of this years gardening season. Also that way the Corm gets bigger. As to the Canna's mine bloom for the entire season, I cut the stem when all of the flowers are gone and the seed production starts to give the plant more energy to grow more flowers.

    • @cvps1980
      @cvps1980 2 роки тому +1

      Ok now now as for the cannas I always thought producing seed consumes more of the plants energy. I would pretty much daily pull off spent flowers and not allow the balls or the seed pods to even grow thus right under where your flowers used to be you find another sheathed stem of flowers ready to pop out , last year I had a continuous row of 7 schizophrenic canna blooms from same stem all beautiful and didn't seem to affect plant as pups were still coming up. None the less I think the brutal winter has killed off A LOT of stock I had stored in shed. I'm pissed. But hey check into that because nearly every canna minus canna canovq will bloom again and again

      @jochen.allardice-grein  2 роки тому

      @@cvps1980 producing seeds does take more energy fromm the plant, what you also have to consider that some of the hybrid Cannas are sterile, while they might produce seedpods there really is nothing in them. they are great plants but also somewhat fucked up, :-) I guess this is one of the reasons why I love them so much. Also I have to keep mine in the basement in the winter , the shed gets too cold here in Northern Germany

      Thank you, there will be an update soon, after I put them in the ground they got hit by hail, so they look a bit shit now :-), but give it a couple of weeks ans they should bounce back.

    Quick, maybe dumb question. You originally separated the original plant in the fall and brought them inside. So we’re you watering them and encouraging growth at this time instead of just letting them go dormant. I believe that is what you did but wanted to check. Thanks for the videos and follow up. .

    • @jochen.allardice-grein
      @jochen.allardice-grein  11 місяців тому

      not a dumb question at all, I did water them a little and placed them on a bright windowsill, were they got direct Sunlight for about 2 hours, and slowly they changed and grew pups. Hop this helps.

      @@jochen.allardice-grein it does and thank you so much. I’m going to try and grow one next spring and was trying to get some info about the overwintering situation. I have 2 new tiny bananas I purchased later in the season (different type) but I want to bring him in the house because they won’t survive the winter here and I’m just trying to figure out if I should bring them in the house or leave them in a dark garage… Learning as I go… Thank you so much for the response and I love your show. It’s so cute.

      They are actually doing quite well, although it is time to put them out in the garden once the frost stops
