- Diego Armando Maradona; 30 October 1960 - 25 November 2020) was an Argentine professional football player and manager. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport, he was one of the two joint winners of the FIFA Player of the 20th Century award. Maradona's vision, passing, ball control, and dribbling skills were combined with his small stature, which gave him a low centre of gravity allowing him to manoeuvre better than most other players. His presence and leadership on the field had a great effect on his team's general performance, while he would often be singled out by the opposition. In addition to his creative abilities, he possessed an eye for goal and was known to be a free kick specialist. A precocious talent, Maradona was given the nickname "El Pibe de Oro" ("The Golden Boy"), a name that stuck with him throughout his career. He also had a troubled off-field life and was banned in both 1991 and 1994 for abusing drugs.
An advanced playmaker who operated in the classic number 10 position, Maradona was the first player to set the world record transfer fee twice: in 1982 when he transferred to Barcelona for £5 million, and in 1984 when he moved to Napoli for a fee of £6.9 million. He played for Argentinos Juniors, Boca Juniors, Barcelona, Napoli, Sevilla, and Newell's Old Boys during his club career, and is most famous for his time at Napoli and Barcelona, where he won numerous accolades.
In his international career with Argentina, he earned 91 caps and scored 34 goals. Maradona played in four FIFA World Cups, including the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, where he captained Argentina and led them to victory over West Germany in the final, and won the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player. In the 1986 World Cup quarter final, he scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over England that entered football history for two different reasons. The first goal was an unpenalized handling foul known as the "Hand of God", while the second goal followed a 60 m (66 yd) dribble past five England players, voted "Goal of the Century" by FIFA.com voters in 2002.
Maradona became the coach of Argentina's national football team in November 2008. He was in charge of the team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa before leaving at the end of the tournament. He then coached Dubai-based club Al Wasl in the UAE Pro-League for the 2011-12 season. In 2017, Maradona became the coach of Fujairah before leaving at the end of the season. In May 2018, Maradona was announced as the new chairman of Belarusian club Dynamo Brest. He arrived in Brest and was presented by the club to start his duties in July. From September 2018 to June 2019, Maradona was coach of Mexican club Dorados. He was the coach of Argentine Primera División club Gimnasia de La Plata from September 2019 until his death in November 2020.

Tb sou torcedor da Argentina, mesmo reconhecendo que o futebol brasileiro ainda é o melhor da história, devido a quantidade a grande quantidade de jogadores craques que se consagraram no mundo do futebol e de outros bons jogadores, e ainda é a única seleção que tem 5 copas do Mundo, mas tenho grande admiração pelo futebol da Argentina, pra mim o segundo melhor do mundo e o que mais disputa pau a pau com o futebol brasileiro, e na raça, na garra, supera sim o futebol brasileiro, sempre gostei mais do estilo do futebol argentino, futebol jogador acima de tudo com muita raça e vontade acima de tudo, para somente depois dar ênfase a técnica, meu avô era argentino e tenho muitos parentes que moram lá, tb curto muito o Boca Juniors e tb é uma coisa que devemos estudar e observar, considerando que Argentina é um território que dá somente talvez a metade do Brasil e tem uma população de 39 milhões de pessoas contra 200 milhões de pessoas, mais de 4 vzs mais pessoas, e o Brasil com muito mais clubes de futebol, e a Argentina praticamente revela a quase a mesma quantidade de craques e bom jogadores que o Brasil, é de se pensar um pouco se eles as vzs não são até melhores que o futebol brasileiro.

I am more of a Maradona fan than a soccer fan to be honest. Zidane was great though. But Maradona was great all of the time (at least when I saw him) whereas Zidane did not shine all the time as I remember him. Not sure I have a better suggestion for number 2 after Maradona though. I was telling the truth when I said I lost interest in soccer after Maradona quit, so have not paid that much attention after that. As a Norwegian reporter said after Maradone gave that positive drug test: Good news, even drug addicts can become brilliant fotball players!

And excuse me if this may sound offensive, but what drugs were you on when you were watching Zidane play? Lol! Zizou always shined when he played!!! One of the greatest to ever grace the football pitch, he won absolutely everything there was to win everywhere he went. There were really no ups or downs for Zidane (except the 2006 WC Final when he retired), Zizou was always at the top of the mountain. P.S. Maradona was already destined to be a great player at a very young age before he even knew what drugs were because that's what happens to players like him who are born in poverty with dozens of adversities to overcome. It's those guys who end up becoming legends.

Maybe other players scored more goals or won more championships, but this guy was the most skilled player I´ve ever seen. Just beautiful to watch him ( I feared him though as a youngster, because I´m German and he faced us in two World cup finals ). Messi & Ronaldo win titles with the world´s most richest and powerful teams - Maradona came to Napoli and made a former middle class team the Italian Champion, Cupwinner, UEFA-Cup winner ( when this cup had way more value than today ). I became a Napoli Fan ( next to Schalke :) ) at that time. He was dramatic, hot blooded but for real. A guy with high ups and a big downfall that makes him more tangable than slippery modern stars like Messi and Ronaldo. Maradona per sempre, Napoli per sempre.
