Diego Maradona one of the greatest footballer of all time, who single handedly gave Argentina the 1986 world cup. He is no longer with us but he and his football greatness will always be remembered.
soccer used to be so beautiful, spontaneous and dramatic, lot of blood and guts, i love this old games , i was a kid back then , it was so much easier to identify yourself with the players, today we have robots from the incubators playing in super teams that follow perfect tactical plan, today its like watching two computers playing and whoever has better algorithm and better machines wins
It's the same in other sports, like tennis. Back then we had artists like McEnroe, today we have robots like Djokovic. Even Federer with all his skills was more like a perfect machine than an artist.
Interesting thing is that Austria had a really good team in those days. Herbert Prohaska was an elite player. That makes the big win by Argentina all the more impressive.
Austria also had a fearsome striker in that team, the legendary Hans Krankl, Golden Boot 77-78 and widely considered one of the best in Europe at the time.
Es cierto en esos años Austria, Polonia , Hungria eran selecciones muy importantes con muy buen futbol similar a lo que hoy es Belgica ,Croacia por ejemplo.Yo lo recuerdo .Saludos desde Arg.
The greatest is the one with the most trophies of all time which must include a world Cup and that's messi. The best is the one that has the most important individual accolades and that's messi.

I remember that game! Though we were humbled by Argentina, we recognized it was a far superior team and even applaud the up-and-coming Maradona. After the game, the Argentinian Embassy organized an Asado and the Austrian press jokingly said that the Argentinians had doped themselves with beef 😂
E ci protegge. Egli è il Dio del calcio, ed è il Dio di Napoli.
Maradona created so many goals for others - He was a strikers dream. Ask any striker who would they rather have in their team Ronaldo, Messi or Maradona. The honest answer of majority would be Maradona - He was the ultimate provider and game controller!😊
I love Maradona but i didn't see as many games of his as I was fortunate enough to have seen of Messi. You cannot underestimate Messi's passing. He's one of the greatest goal scorers of any era. He also played on teams loaded with great passers like Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets, yet in my opinion Messi may have been the best passer on those teams and quite possibly the best passer of his generation.
@@ViralAMBSDR2023It is not about quantity, just see a few of his matches with the Napoli and you will understand. There are several issues to have in mind, the way Maradona treated the ball, the several ways of shooting the ball, the rest of his team mates weren't the Barcelona of Messi, all kinds of kicks and fouls he received. Don't forget his double fracture of both bones of his leg... and the list is huge...his dribbling plus his explotion was unique too... Just watch for archive videos and you will get crazy about him. He had huge balls also, he was a warrior, he had everything...he played "with his head always lifted", the ball was part of him...there is no cup and no golden shoe enough for him...
In this video you can clearly see the difference between Maradonna and Messi. Diego always takes the ball behind or in the middle of the field, trying to build play, throw long passes and if he couldn't find a pass, start dodging his rivals and kicking at the goal. Messi, on the other hand, began his plays in three quarters of the field, dodging or looking to join forces to kick at the goal.

12:56 Random fact: The one that dribbled 3 opponents and passed at the end to Maradona is Carlos Ischia, 2nd place of Libertadores 1986 (River Plate won the tournament and then became champion of the "Intercontinental" vs Steaua București) Carlos belonged to one of the best America de Cali squads ever 🇨🇴🔥
What makes Diego's mastery and genius more apparent is that the Austrian team was an amazing and talented side being, strong, skilled and strategic, yet maradona outplayed them and annihilated their defense. I waa born 1977, so only watched diego really properly from 1986 onwards, but his early footage is phenomenal. The 70s footage from Boca is pure genius.
As a Dutch youngster I started to watch football at a very young age in 1978. We had to play Osterreich in Argentina and while we beat them they were indeed excellent. Koncilia, Prohaska, Jara. The guys seen here were very good. Argentina also had good players, Luque as we see here was also great and Diego was coming. They also played at the mundialito against NL and Maradona was unstoppable. What happened were a lot of fouls which is a red line throughout is his career. You see refs were very easy on defenders. I have never ever seen someone getting kicked so much and brutally as MAradona yet he rarely whined about it and even tried to go on whenever possible. Whjich made him all the more exciting. Since a freekick just slows down matches but with him, even very severe fouls did make him stop and so by continuing the pace went up. Because of this, really being close to unstoppable he created chances for his team and prevented the other team to organise themselves. With Messi and others their roling over the floor even when barely a thing happens this means they slow down an attack. Hoping for a card or something, not hoping to make a decisive goal by pulling on. That is a big difference and again: due to this very frequent behaviour of MAradona he also became more exciting.

Because Maradona played in the most difficult and spectacular world football era of all time, especially the Italian 🇮🇹 Serie a. Because Maradona is the most technical player of all time, the most intelligent player of all time, the most charismatic player of all time, the most bravest player of all time, and the most decisive player of all time. Because Maradona humiliated the best defenders of all time, who were also the biggest k1llers defenders of all time, he played with heavy balls, and he played on disastrous fields.. And imagine Maradona without dr6gs, without fouls suffered by the most k1llers defenders of all time, and without extra pounds... Not even close. Actually how you compare footage. Maradona played in a time where defence killed you by tackles even the movement of ball was more rough, jumping like. Messi played in a time that defenders cant sneeze in front of forwards and glass type ground. Also Diego is the only one ever one bet for his team even against an alien team. In Pressure Messi is not half player he was. Always the comfort zone,, depressed in tough games..surrounded by legends he can do things,if not nothing. And won WC when it's too too easy softpens. 53 brutal fouls vs pens when you touch ..
Half of the team would’ve been kicked out had Maradona played nowadays and received this beating, FIFA took good care of wiping out Maradon’s legacy by protecting another Argentinian instead, with all do respect to Messi, another genius surely but to me Maradona was better

Bueno yo hablaba del medio para adelante , pero sí era un arquero muy capaz tenía una salida buenísimo , reflejos muuuuy buenos y agilidad , además de un excelente manejo tiempo distancia en pelotas aéreas .
It was Bayern Napoli in 1989, the famous one in the warm-up. Maradona dominated that match and Kaiser Franz said: "He's not 100% and he practically dominates matches on his own, I can't imagine if Diego was at his ideal weight."
Today's defence does not allow any advancement in the center. It's all flanks. Maradona would practically be a Latin American story only in today's game. His most famous performances were against tactically weak defencing sides. Messi, for example, played against best of the best and left everyone in awe. There is much more physicality in today's football too, it's just not cruelty, but precisely physical defence.
For me Maradona and Ronaldinho had a gift for the unexpected that no other human in the history of this sport ever had. I can't argue who the greatest player in history is and there are so many aspects of the game but for me Football is a spectacle and I've never see anyone put a show like those two could. When they took the ball you could never guess what is next no script. Ronaldo, CR7 Messi, Mbappe, Haland... you know what they can do and for the most part they do it anyway and thatts their greatness. When you saw messi running down the band with the ball you knew he was going to cut to the inside... the defenders knew it too and piled up but he'd still do it no matter how many players were there and that's crazy but not suprising. When Dinho or Maradona came running down the bands you just didn't know what's next. Their imagination was just so far out and incomprehensible. You could argue who was better who won more and whos the greatest for all eternity but you won't find more entertaining football than Maradona and Dinho. PS - I never saw Pele play... only the Reels and it looks like he fall under their category but its a shame there are so few videos to whatch of him.
one of the best austrian ever sides as well… krankl, prohaska, schachner, jara, sara, konicilia, etc… just about a year prior, when argentina won their first world cup on home soil, austria finished top 8 at that very same tournament, actually eliminating reigning world champions at the time, germany, in their last game in argentina! also fun to see the old praterstadion without a roof yet (it was added on during the 80‘s i believe)

Messi was way better at 19 years old
@@mrikahoxha5601 No he wasn't. He was 19 during 2006, & still learning the game. Where to pass, were to run too, etc. His shooting power accuracy was still a little off from where it eventually became. Maradona had mostly everything down by 19. The 2009/10 season is when Messi became a *_true_* monster & by 10/11, desereved all the comparisons to Diego.
Maradona's best goals were in Newells and Boca Jr. He made an impossible goal that Messi and CR7 have yet to do. I can't describe it completely here but he scored a goal from the far left side with his left foot. This goal was from a very long distance like 25 meters.@@mrikahoxha5601
I have watched many Maradona's games. This game just shows how good he was at passing the ball. He always passes the ball ahead of his teamate so his teamate does not have to slow down in order to get the ball. I guess what really make Maradona great is how he control the flow of the game through passing the ball.

soccer used to be so beautiful, spontaneous and dramatic, lot of blood and guts, i love this old games , i was a kid back then , it was so much easier to identify yourself with the players, today we have robots from the incubators playing in super teams that follow perfect tactical plan, today its like watching two computers playing and whoever has better algorithm and better machines wins
It's the same in other sports, like tennis. Back then we had artists like McEnroe, today we have robots like Djokovic. Even Federer with all his skills was more like a perfect machine than an artist.
Maradona could make impossible things possible on field
Interesting thing is that Austria had a really good team in those days. Herbert Prohaska was an elite player. That makes the big win by Argentina all the more impressive.
Austria also had a fearsome striker in that team, the legendary Hans Krankl, Golden Boot 77-78 and widely considered one of the best in Europe at the time.
Thank you for pointing that out. Did not know which team Arg was playing with.
Es cierto en esos años Austria, Polonia , Hungria eran selecciones muy importantes con muy buen futbol similar a lo que hoy es Belgica ,Croacia por ejemplo.Yo lo recuerdo .Saludos desde Arg.

La tenia "atada" fue un artista del futbol. No habra ninguno igual💙👏👏👏

R9 is the best I’ve ever seen

Definitely the most magnetic football player of all time.. simply mesmerizing !

Messi played in a time that defenders cant sneeze in front of forwards and glass type ground. Also Diego is the only one ever one bet for his team even against an alien team. that would've been wc-86, again.
Absolutely agree and so well explained. Maradonna played football in a man,s game. Not as physical in the Messi era
Diego Armando Maradona
