I really did not care much for Dragon Maid and was rather indifferent to it until I was introduced to Ilulu. Ilulu is the character that finally made me love this show. She is without a doubt my favorite character. It’s easy to see why she’s the most complex character in the show. Excellent video by the way, that was beautiful.

I just want to say I agree with what you meant by all that but I also urge you to understand and be patient yourself. These commenters or other such residents of the internet simply needs time to not so much change but evolve to a higher understanding. Trust me as someone with a bisexual relative in his family bloodline I know firsthand what it's like to be introduced to a different concept and the struggles in an obstacles we must take to adjust to such ways of thinking to understand that they are different but not harmful but there's something to be there's something to be analyzed in sometimes thought upon not feared. But fortunately and unfortunately it takes time and patience to get there maybe that time will come in our lives and maybe it won't but until then it's up to people like Us to slowly but surely bring down the Walls of ignorance. Nothing I got off my chest thank you for getting us your thoughts.

As someone who has read the Manga, Ilulu is my favorite character in Dragon Maid and I'm SO happy you managed to get down how deep and complex her character is. Wonderful video. =^w^=

Seee? She’s more than just tits! Tho I do wish dragon maid stretched out Ilulu’s change to Kobayashi’s side and have her more cynical. Surprisingly I think Toloveru did this better since Yami didn’t change her ways in an instant because of a few kind words. You see her experience the world, make friends with Mikan and everyone else and even fall in love with Rito to the point where she stops trying to kill him. Dragon maid rushes through all this in the anime and manga and I wish there was more to this!
Honestly between the two Kobayashi does a pretty good pace, To Love Ru had too many characters to focus on plus the series was heavy on fan service so they had to drag it out and as the series went on they kept introducing more characters to a harem. Kobayashi herself is a character that doesn't need something like tripping 5 feet away from Touru and by some miracle ends up on top of her with her hands in places unexplained as to how, not that Touru would be against that, but what I'm getting at is you don't necessarily have to drag something out in order to flesh out a character you can give them a change of heart while still explaining their past, Ilulu is a perfect example when it comes to her working at the candy store and I kind of doubt this season will jump on it but in the manga Kanna herself gets a character moment involving her home world, between the two anime Kobayashi doesn't have a lot of characters so you don't need extra baggage, To Love Ru on the other hand has way to much baggage and even worst that the manga (spoiler alert) ends with no real solution
Yeah but then it’s just talk no jutsu! I find Kobayashi so annoying ever since she got in the way of Tohru and her father fighting. I get that she’s suppose to be the middle ground where these two can compromise but this feels like Godzilla where the camera shows the humans instead of the monster fights.
Yeah To love ru is all fan service and yes, you don’t have to stretch out character moments but we’re talking about Ilulu losing her parents, hating humans and being a child of war for so long…and all it took was Kobayashi being kind to her? All that trauma and that’s it?
At least when it came to Mea in to love ru darkness, it was a little bit more realistic to how she changed her way of thinking she’s just a weapon.
I know it’s a comedy slice of life but come on!
Trust me, I’m not one of these idiots who believe “If you don’t treat this with respect than don’t write about it!” No, I’m saying it’s very wasted potential and it’s Kobayashi’s talk no jutsu that ruins all this. We’re going into Mary-Sue territory here. Just imagine if some fanfic writer did this?
Again, I’m not saying people can’t write about trauma! I’m just saying at least do something with it. You could change Ilulu’s origin story to anything and she’ll still end up joining Kobayashi.
I don’t know if this is suppose to be some “subversive” storytelling but if it is then we need to understand that Subversion doesn’t automatically mean it’s good.
IMO this series would be way better if Kobayashi wasn’t in it. Tohru would make a better main character since the conflict with gods and her father would be interesting hell Make Lucoa the main character cause at least it would be a great character moment if she decides to fight to protect the people she cares about. Ilulu would be a great MC too since she has a sad backstory that people can understand why she believes what she believes.
I just don’t care about Kobayashi. She’s too in the way of the more exciting shit.
@@GunthersLoyalSoldier1307 You have to realize that Kobayashi is just a human. You can't expect her to fight a dragon(even tho she does once at a cost), so the only way to make compromise is to talk it out. I can't say it's Mary-Sue because she's not powerful but she knows how make compromise because she coexist.
Iruru isn't dealing with the lost of her parents or being a child of war but not being with humans because she don't hate them but being force to hate them because she knows that the war would lead to death but it took away her childhood and forced her to grow up in the war. The first season show what the Chaos Faction does to anyone. Hate humans, hate the Harmony Faction and leave nothing but destruction.
Plus I would don't think the series would be better without her because the show wouldn't be same because she make the show what it is. You may not like her but each to their own.

I’m serious, she could at least talk about training hell she’s so comfortable being around the enemy because her plot armor that she falls asleep next Ilulu…the same dragon that wanted to destroy Japan and even the world! All she is is talk no jutsu and everything is fine.
I compare her to a slightly proactive Bella Swan*hears gasps*Yeah, I said it! I know she’s suppose to bring the humanity to these dragons but at least attempt to evolve! Your city was almost destroyed of Elma wasn’t there. What would she have done if Elma wasn’t there when Ilulu appeared? What would’ve happened if Tooru didn’t save Kobayashi and Ilulu?
Yes, she’s human but hello she has a dragon that can train her to fight. Maybe teach her some spells? If she’s gonna continue doing nothing or getting in the way then she’s just Yuri-bait for the shippers.
We could’ve gotten an awesome fight between Tooru and her dad but Kobayashi had to get in the way. I’m just screaming at the screen “GET OUT OF THE WAY!” I know it!s a slice of life comedy but this studio did such an awesome job with the fights that I want to see more from them but Kobayashi keeps getting in the way. Either have her grow as a character by making her understand that she needs to fight too or get her out of the way so the dragons can fight.
@@GunthersLoyalSoldier1307 teaching Kobayashi how to fight dragons would be a contradiction to what the dragons are trying to change themselves about, Kobayashi is the best example you can fight with words and come to an understanding, Touru likes her because she saved her life and gave her a friend, Kanna likes her because she showed her the love of a parent, elma likes her because of food lol, Fafnir is a maybe because, when she said she sees humans and dragons as equal he didn't have a response

It's quite hilarious that the people who claim that Ilulu is nothing but a sexualized fanservice character, are the one that sexualize her the most by refusing to see her as anything but that.

This reminds me of America waaay too much considering it took until this year for us to finally try to actually end a war. A generational war that has done a lot of harm to the people in it.
