Look I love this take and appreciate your insights, but the lack of a Mediterranean on the map is triggering the shit out of me lol
I'm sorry. I can only afford a wierd blue geometirc world map.
The Mediterranean is a government construct. Don’t believe the conspiracy. Nothing exists outside of Argentina
How did a map lose the ENTIRE Mediterranean?!
@@YaroShien it is fine, i appreciate the work you do enough to steel myself and make it through.

Well I know some people don’t see it that way but for me ghost story dubs is pretty much ghost story abridged
Technically at the time it existed it would be called a "Full Series Gag Real" since it's the full episodes & series but I would personally call it "Abridged before Abridging was a thing"
We condone pirating (for legal reasons this is a joke)
You condone pirating, in Minecraft.
Wait, this isn't Cody's Showdy's
Talking about 4kids, i genuinely love their dub of the kirby anime. Dedede's VA sells him so well, and the rest of the cast is really strong. Probably one of 4kids' best adaptations.
so two months late to this whole thing. but for me, some changes are fine. If the spirit stays true than its fine. Dragon maid is ironically a perfect example. Aside from one stupid joke it keeps the spirit and tone well and some of the clunkier or japanese language based jokes are replaced with punchier ones without messing the tone up. In fact one of my favorite jokes is a dubisim.
Also I pray every day we get a real rosario vampire anime because dear gods do I want to see aqua and Kahlua. I want to see ghoul Tskune kicking ass.
As for people just stoking rage, I find star wars is a big offender. People piss and moan about every tiny thing and act like it's killing star wars. And in turn, half the time the complaints they make are either bad faith or out right wrong. People complain about the crystal bleeding in acolyte. Even though that was one of the first things disney introduced. They bitch about vader making a simple joke while also being terrifying, while forgetting he did that in episode 5. They complain about Rey beating kylo even though her big defeat of him is stabbing him while he's distracted after he kicked her ass to the point she couldn't stand. If you don't like it. fine. Move on. Enjoy the stuff you do have. It's what I did when doctor who went to shit
I am going to sound like an old man yelling at clouds here. Back in my day (the early to mid 90s) anime used to be something you would find on VHS at speciality shops. Nowadays its seasonal. I think that level of access has spoiled a section of fans. Fans have eaten so well for so long they've become snobbish.
People seem to forget that, just like there are transphobic/homophobic/etc media that has been "changed" to not be so harmful for those communities.
There have also been animes and videogames that are pro-LGTB from their conception, and the original western localization tried to erase their existence in the work itself.
Oh yeah, no, that has 100% happened and it sucks.
10:44 so while that statement is fine there's a problem. they've already shown to change sub-dialogue. In Samurai Pizza Cats, they changed an argument where two characters call a girl character insult a girl by saying she has a flat chest. the subs were changed to them calling her a tomboy. With subs there is no reason to change the work like that, they don't need to match lip flap or word count, so this seems like someone got offended and changed it. just my view on it.
Piracy as a solution only works when there are actual alternative subtitles, otherwise all you are doing is getting the same "product" without ads or paying a sub. No body buys bds.
This video is divided between being genuinely informative about the complex reality of localization and translation and shit talking on Jelloapocalyse like a highschool student
Wait why is he dirt talking jello apocalypse?
@@ibxman5386From what I know, which isn’t much, he was supposed to translate Lovely Complex for DiscotekMedia and instead changed the script because he didn’t like the original story. *this is knowledge I had before watching the video and it might explain it*
He got fired for shittalking it too lmao
Not only that, but according to other videos talking about it, Diskotek (the people who hired him) were just fine with the changes, but fired him for "saying the quiet part out loud". @@tripled2096
Correction is in Order: DT did not hire Jello. Sound Cadance did. As far asd his statement reads he was brought in after much of the work had been done, especially for Marissa Lenti who wrote a good chucnk of the show already. There is a longer detailed note about this in a another comment that was left behind by my cowriter going into more detail.
I didn't know any of these names or faces. And while I'm no monk, I do live under a rock.
Also I chose this video cause I like your content.
You are "Him"!
I'm glad SOMEONE isn't just giving Jello a slap on the wrist
On the topic of the Pokémon dub, it’s been done dirty for years with Netflix’s horrible release schedules and the death of Pokémon TV.
But the openings are still good I’ll die on that hill.
The weirdest part is that, if I remember correctly. None of the changes he made are in the dub.
But, it didn't matter. Like you said, the release was ruined for some the moment he said those things.
As the co-writer, I am aware that Yaro mispronounced Trails of Cold Steel again. I'm pretty sure he did it on purpose, however, and I refuse to let him win by acknowledging it. Hey, look, an emoji: 😢

That Rosario+Vampire bit hit hard.

i cant focus with that god forsaken map in the background XD
Eh the only thing I can counter in your video is if the subs are inaccurate and personalize translated into the image of the localizer it makes it hard to critique the product, character dialogue is everything and changing things do to mah feminism which has happen in multiple occasions.
It's very simple:
Please translate the story accurately and don't try to insert your political ideas into the story just because what the author said offends you,
It's not that hard not to be the progressive inquisition🤷♂️
Way to prove his point friendo, super cool.

So that was a pretty solid video. Angry Anime Fan could be a pretty solid series to promote your channel and get more views. You don't have to make them 30 minutes long though. :P Also I made it to the end, I saw that epic showdown between you and your dog. Careful, that dog knows where you sleep. xD
Okay a bit controversial take, but I don’t fully agree here. I will start by saying yes I am a Jelloapocalypse fan, I’ve enjoyed his content for a long time now. However, that doesn’t mean I blindly follow him without question. This is the first I’ve heard of this controversy. I respect him enough to do my own digging on the topic, and so read the original post that sparked this whole thing. As far as I can tell, Discotek is far from the victim they’re making themselves out to be. Jello whole post goes on to state that the production for the dub was a hellish two years. A lot of them were not being paid, in fact they were told to cash in favors just to get this done. Jello joined after hearing that his friend was having a really hard time localizing this dub, and he had to take over the last third of production when Marissa Lenti suffered a major injury and couldn’t work. One of the main voice actors got deported it was that bad.
Now, it doesn’t surprise me that he said he hates the original story. He has always been honest when he likes or dislikes something, I mostly don’t agree with his opinions, but they are just his opinions. His psychopath comment is not directed at the community, it’s directed at the main character of this romcom anime. And from what he then describes the character doing in the series, I don’t disagree. The show is entirely transphobic, going out of its way to abuse the trans character. They have a running gag where a character uses a grabber to try and lift the skirt on the trans character just to expose them. That is extremely messed up. The show wants to paint this transphobic abuse as okay. So I understand why Jello hates it.
His response to a comment about making changes to the localization to remove transphobic elements was that they couldn’t use certain buzzwords that would trigger the louder members of the anime community that ARE racist/sexist/transphobic/etc. He wasn’t saying the community as whole is racist/sexist/transphobic/etc. just the ones that are, it’s a really big community so there are definitely those kind of people in there.
To conclude this unintentionally lengthy comment, I agree that Jello should have handled this situation better. However, as I had thought, there was a lot more going on behind the scenes. Discotek was wanting a dub made without even giving it the budget necessary. And it’s not like Jello was talking about this on twitter @ing discotek, this was a post on his patreon, where he was venting the his terrible experience with this localization. So yeah, he will most likely be blacklisted by Discotek, but I don’t think he will care about that seeing as they weren’t even paying him for most of his work.
This is a thoughtful comment and that warrants a thoughtful response.
Let's separate Discotek from Sound Cadence. JelloApocalypse never worked for Discotek, and Discotek did not make the English dub for Lovely Complex. Their job in this situation was giving some funds to Sound Cadence -- not enough, because they did not feel that Lovely Complex had enough appeal to make a dub a marketable expense. They were prepared to distribute it sub-only, or maybe not at all. Sound Cadence was the studio that wrote and directed the dub. They hired JelloApocalypse to help write scripts for the dub as a favor. The truth is, Sound Cadence also could not afford to dub this show, so they did a lot of backdealing to make it happen. The main promise from them to their writers was that they'd get credited for an anime, which they could use as experience. This is obviously a problematic set up, and it's not common, but it's also not unheard of in the anime industry. Doing oddjob favors like this is how some VAs and writers make it into the industry.
Discotek never claimed victimhood. They got backlash for Jello's rant despite the fact they never hired him, and they responded by saying that they produced dubs with punched up jokes and released subs for more "by the line" translations. They blacklisted both Sound Cadence and Jello because of his rant. Sound Cadence is the one who is actually suffering from this move because the LoveCom dub was a project that the heads of the studio were willing to go into the hole financially for, and its release got marred by Jello being irresponsible.
Here is why Jello deserves the brunt of the ire: 1. He threw his friends under the bus. Sound Cadence also helped edit and direct Epithet Erased probably for crumbs because they are a fairly boutique studio. That's a relationship that he benefitted from and he fucked it up for both of them. 2. He was not mistreated by any of the people involved. He was asked a favor, agreed to it, didn't like the project, and remained in it of his own volition. He made demands about how the script needed to be changed beyond "punching up" dialog and insisted that they follow his vision on what trans-inclusivity means. 3. One of the things he insisted on was that they rewrite the anime because he "wants to write good romance." This goes far and above translation or even localization. This is flagrant disrespect to authorial vision. He should've been removed, sure, but he also should've removed himself. 4. It would've been incredibly easy, professional and harmless if he has ranted "this was a tough production, but we put out the best we could, please check it out and reward our hard work!" He instead ranted "this was a tough production, I hate this anime, and here's all the things I did to make it not like the anime." He did this knowing that he was entering this opinion into the wider discourse about anime dubs because he specifically spelled out that other dubbing companies disliked the hate they got for even hinting at trans-inclusivity. That he knew that and decided to post it where it would be public shows a reckless disregard for his own cause, let alone the work his friends did.
I specifically wrote the part responding to Jello's claim that he was working on behalf of trans people in the LoveCom dub, but just to elaborate a bit:
Jello refers to this dub as the "trans-iest anime dub" in existence. They hired trans-readers, cast trans actors for trans characters and even for extras. He did not do any of this. The tenor of his post casts him as a hero (with a few others) for making this the "trans-iest anime dub," when he was a script writer. The heavy lifting and money spent to do all this was done by other people, not him. He stole the valor of a lot of people who actually did work on behalf of trans rights, and those are the people who are going to suffer. He can hate the show if he wants. He did not have to work on it.
I'm judging him by the consequences of his actions, rather than his intentions (although his intentions probably sucked too). His post torpedoed the "trans-iest anime dub" of all time. His post is indelibly going to make it harder for either Discotek or Sound Cadence to make trans-sensitive content. He harmed his own cause and he through his friends under the bus. It would've been so very easy not to do any of that, but he was selfish and lacks any sort of common sense.
@@Dealortruth Thanks for the thoughtful response! So often I get responses that cuss me out and don’t elaborate their disagreements. As I said, this was the first I had heard of this controversy, so I didn’t have all the details. I decided to check the critical piece of this information with the original post, but I plan to look more into it. I’ll be looking at both sides of the argument since the truth can typically be found somewhere in between. There was wrong done on both sides, I agree Jello went about this the wrong way, but some things in this video weren’t adding up right to the person I’ve come to know. That’s still not to say he is infallible, but this is a lot more complicated than this video makes it out to be. Depending on how this situation plays out, I might still be a fan of Jello. Everyone makes mistakes, some worse than others. But it’s dependent on how he handles this situation.
Okay, just finished some more digging. It seems like every official post has been deleted on both sides, so all that remains are screen caps. This is definitely really complicated. Discotek went on to assure that the dub was fine and it removed all of jello’s involvement; Sound Cadence was a bit harder to find but basically states that every script had to go through a lot of checks before it was green lit; I couldn’t find an official response from Marissa Lenti, but I’m guessing they are still friends since she does join some lets play streams of his. As far as I can tell after reading a lot of information about this debacle, the biggest problem was that he shit talked the original version while patting himself on the back. It is one of his toxic traits that has always been present. He has always been that way where he is brutally honest with his opinions, it just finally came back to bite him.
6:00 Say it louder.
The temptation to leave a comment saying "cringe" as a joke (in reaction to the comment on exactly such) was strong, but I am stronger than that today.
This video made me laugh so hard so many times, man! Love your content 💚
My problem with translation is in light novels being difficult to read. I very much enjoy the story of Legend of Galactic Heroes but have to read it like I read Latin searching for the noun.
Yaro I loved your how to be an adventure it got me through some hard times I agree with what you are saying
isnt jello talk about the character in this post you showed and not the audience?
I gotta say, I expected to have at least something to argue about and... yeah I got nothing. GJ Yaro.
We're doing our best.
thanks for the vid
So what’s going on here?
Love me some banjo
Is this a beef between jello and yaro or am i missing something??? Someone please explain.
Jello (Brendan) decided to 'rework' the script, basically rewriting the entire series, of an anime called Lovely Complex in an attempt to make the series less homo/transphobic. NuxTaku/Nuxanor did a reaction of Jello's rewrites vs. the original script, and the series actually isn't THAT offensive. The original paints them as different, yes, but not wrong for just living their lives like everybody else. Edit: Yes, I know this practice is nothing new, but what really upset people this time was the arrogance Jello had, insisting that his rewrites 'saved' the series, and that it was complete garbage before he 'fixed' it. He even wanted to (probably did, wouldn't shock me) remove the author's cameo in her OWN work as a salon stylist.
The same company (This Discotek Media)he's working with also decided to screw over Samurai Pizza Cats, for what it's worth.
I dont actually care about Brendan one way or another. Out of character here, but my personal opinion really is that Jello really skrewed the pooch and made a mess of the whole dub. He threw his frends under the bus, DT under the bus and discredited the people that worked on it for his blatant actions that he refused to removed himself from. But at the end of the day, I dont care what he does from this point. But he was a centerpiece of this problem due to how recent it was. Overall, the video is about respecting the creative intent but also to make it very clear that we dont take these shows integrety to an extreme because they are media that we consume for money. Its extreamly transactional and if you dont like it then you can not buy it, not watch it, and not interact with it. Something that certain creators and their ilk do not do, but instead sensationalize it to make a quick buck.
TLDR: I dont care about Brendan. There is no right way to make a dub, but there sure as hell is a wrong way, its a anime not a fucking lost tresure from Babaloinia, and dont believe everything you hear from certain content creators trying to concvince you the indutry is worse than the actual issues with the industry. Cause they are not.
Erm, what the sigma?
Snoring is ONE OF THE WORST SOUNDS. I had to live with that shit for years from my father as a child helpless to do anything and it was always an excuse coming from him, "it's like that becasue..." yeah I don't care.
