- Sirui have just released the 16mm and 75mm Nightwalker cine lenses - adding to their already impressive set of affordable cine lenses. How do these new T1.2 budget cine lenses stack up to the rest of the set and other "affordable" options like the DZOFilm Vespids - let's find out!

I'll be honest, I tell most people who ask my opinion about the nightwalkers - I tell them I hate them. But your eye using these lenses makes them shine. Also, is your wife an actress!? She commands attention on screen 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 felt like I was watching a narrative piece
Interesting! What do you not like about them? I just can't really hate on them for the price. Haha no she's not an actress, just very patient!
Just breathtaking visuals man. I only remember a little later that it's a lens review! Keep doing what you do!
Love your footage. Always inspiring.
Nice review sir. Loaded with example footage!!! Your grades are looking solid too.
thank you my man - always like to let the footage talk and spare people from my ugly mug!
Was intrigued by the title of your video not knowing what to expect and was fully tuned in from the first frame to the last. Beautiful video!
Yeah the title seemed to pull a lot of people in, glad it delivered and held your attention!
Another banger Ed!
The 16mm looks to be the best performer out of the set.
I like the idea of a t1.2 lens until I go below t2, and nothing is in focus 😂
Hope your holiday with steff was lovely!
Thanks man! Yeah I do also like the quality of the 75mm too, and stopping down is a must if you want to keep things in focus, although I wonder how the new DJI Focus pro would handle it? Yes took her away for a surprise birthday weekend, an absolutely beautiful trip!
@@EdProsser I think the plane of focus of anything 1.8 or below is too shallow for anything besides the most “dreamy” of portrait shots. Otherwise you probably want things in focus 😂
@@CartyCantDancethat really just depends on your distance to the subject. I shoot at 1.2 a lot with mine and get plenty in focus.
Love your work Ed! Really love the look of that 75.
Yeah, it's really nice isn't it? Almost didn't pick up those extra shots with it
@@EdProsser Glad you did 😅
Really impressive quality from the lenses. I enjoyed seeing the side by side difference in shallow vs deeper depth of field.
Yeah I was impressed, can't fault em for the price!
Beautiful footage, Ed.
Thanks man
As someone who is switcihg from photo to mostly video works I decided to add two cine sets next to my good old EF L lenses. While I am not sure about "cleaner look" set (NiSi Athena is my fav for now) on the "character side" the Nightwalker seems to be great value and fun tu use set, whatever camera I choose in the future. Thank you for video, it is great as always and this type of content is really helpful for me!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanx a lot!
long time - thinking - about this set of hightwalker!
The picture - is - beauty enought! :)
And - many - Yo have a Sirui Anamorphic converter?!
i so love to use it with my FF format, and - need some push not not worry - with this set and a small size matrix :)
The major downside of the Sirui vs Vespids is that you're locked into one mirrorless mount (and super35) and cannot take advantage of any speedbooster or filter adapter. For me the Vespids set is a better long-term investment.
Yes that's true, the Vespids are a lot more expensive though, so if you're on a budget getting the night walkers will get you going sooner / earning money faster too. I still prefer my Vespids but I wanted to show that you can get good results with these lenses
@@EdProsser For the same reason, Rokinon T1.5 and Meike T2.1 series are also worth considering over the nightwalker.
@@frankfeng2701 Meike are in similar price range as Vespids, at that point I'd go Vespids over the Meike. Not shot with the Rokinon
Beautiful shots.. think this sold me more on your talents then the product..lol. amazing showcase or what seems an amazingly priced cine lens
Thanks man!
bro looking like a grown up jack-jack dropping bangers. Loved the 16mm, can't wait to try.
It's a fun lil lens!
What an amazing review and gorgeous set of lenses. I really love the look these lenses produce but I'm currently only shooting on S Series Lumix Cameras. I know they are available for L mount but I guess my question is would you say it's worth it to invest in such a set if it takes using your full frame cameras in s35 mode? Recently I read about the new firmware update and how using 6K Open Gate with the new stabilization results in a s35 crop, so this is what I'd use I guess... Thank you for the video either way!
That's what I do! I've got the OG S5 and I've been using the original set of 3 lenses with the S35 crop - they work so well!
Absolutely nothing wrong shooting in S35 mode I do it a lot with a number of lenses, esp. the LUMIX S 18mm! You also get vastly improved sensor read out speeds and reduced rolling shutter! I prefer shooting anamorphic in S35 mode on these LUMIX cams.
@@EdProsser Thank you for taking the time to read my rumbling and for the encouraging words! I will be picking up the 16mm very shortly! Thank you!
@@elementary8963 That's very encouraging to hear, thank you very much!
I’m always so jealous of your ability to create such beautiful images man! Would this lens be appropriate to use on the original S5 in apsc mode? I’m looking for a wider angle lens to use with my Helios and thought I should avoid the 20-60mm variable aperture kit lens.
Yeah I've not managed to get a set to shoot on L mount LUMIX cams but they should work great
@@EdProsser Sounds good!
That seaside view 🥰
Not too shabby
Amazing vid! Thank you. Have you tried out Dulens APO mini primes by chance?
I haven't, but I really want to!! Saw that they have a new modified set announced at NAB
@@EdProsser Yeahhh can't wait to see more on that! I bought a pre-owned 45mm and really like it. But still debating on whether or not I'll buy a full set or not. Glad I hadn't yet because it was right before the news at NAB. Would love a review from you at some point.
@@alexamickey if I can get them to send me a set I definitely will! The close focus issues were the only thing really putting me off getting the original set.
@@EdProsser True, I gotta admit that part is pretty disappointing :/
can I ask what you're grain process / settings are!? gorgeous!
I think most of this is using the grain preset within the FilmVision 2 powergrade, it has the saturation pumped up, size fairly high, softness fairly low I think
Great review. Sirui knocked it out of the park with this set. I'm in a bit of a dilemma as I both own super35 and FF cameras. Decisions, decisions, decisions
me too - and it's a shame they only come in locked mirrorless mounts as my FF camera is an L mount.
Do you find you are using the promist filters less with the Komodo or making adjustments in Resolve?
I remember the first video I saw of yours was for the Vezpids review. Now you don’t seem to talk about the promists. Only asking because I’m attempting your Resolve tutorials and thinking I could be doing this in post.
You always make everything look amazing.
It depends on the project and the lenses being used. I'm ordering to use the black satin a lot more these days as it's a bit more subtle.
@@EdProsser I’ve been seeing that a lot lately. Which one do you like? 1/8 or 1/4?
@@littletheatrefilms5825 at the moment I use a 1/8th it seems to be a nice balance between subtle and diffusion effect
@@EdProsser thank you. I may try that. I have a c70 and bpm 1/8. Just finished a small project and I didn’t love the results. Thank you again
How do these cut with your Vespid primes? I can't tell if your color grade has shifted the colors and contrast, so it's hard to tell if they would cut with the Vespids. I need a light and compact 16mm for my gimbal.
I think I have a comparison with my Vespids in my original nightwalker video. But they match pretty well, not as sharp or clean, more.CA - but the 16mm is much sharper than the other NW so would probably match a little better. Nothing a bit of tweaking in post wont massage.
Could you compare the panasonic 18mm 1.8 vs the 16mm nightwalker? What are your thoughts?
If I can find one in L mount... The LUMIX S lens is lighter and has AF, a bit cleaner optically
You are thinking exactly what i do bro haha nice choice , i wonder what if they release full frame of these under $500 wow
Yeah who knows - I recon full frame would need to be a bit larger and probably a bit more expensive!
She's killing it
Have you ever used it on the lumix?
I haven't - but heard they work well! If I can persuade them to send me a set in L-mount I'll do a video on them
Beautiful glass.
stop telling everyone 🤫
No one watches my channel it's fine
@@EdProsserThis video was recommended to me tho 😭
@@ClicStudio you can keep a secret though?
@@EdProsserthe algorithm just brought me here to prove you wrong
@@ItsDrewsifyou are one of the chosen few
They look great, do they work on the Canon R6 and R7?
If they can shoot in a crop sensor / Super 35 mode then yes. They'll still work on full frame sensors you'll just have vignetting
@@EdProsser awesome, thanks
Oooh 16mm…YES!
Did you add noise?
Yes a bit of grain
The nightwalker 24 has too much barrel distortion so I wonder how the 16 behaves? Your wife is awesome 👍 it felt like a movie / your filmic feel is great man. I really like the look of those walkers! I have the 24,35,55.
I think for the price the lenses are excellent and I can overlook any imperfections, esp. as many other expensive sides have barrel distortion too
I hear what you’re saying 👍 Still for me it’s a problem shooting real estate. I haven’t found a good wide lens for my xt-4. I’m picky with that. Still loving the nightwalkes for shooting people, lifestyle etc. I don’t think you notice the distortion that much on your video but it would be very interesting to see the 16mm in a real estate video. Thx! 😊
@@CPSWEDEN the 16 didn't seem to have too much distortion, but yes I hear you, you want clean lenses for that type of work, which I don't really do
@@EdProsserThanks for the reply! Yes clean straight lines but I love lenses with character too. I think you can have both actually… If someone know a good 16mm that produces straight lines without bending the corners and making everything look distorted let me know ❤
It feels a bit too sharp, no? I'm more into the "vintage look", and this feels a bit too clinically sharp in comparison to other brands such as SLR Magic and 7Artisan. Is that something you would agree with? I haven't compared them, so it's hard to say.
Yes maybe it's a little too much on the sharp side but you could apply diffusion filters or a bit of blur in post. I think for the price difficult to be too picky with these.
@@EdProsser Yeah absolutely. I have a 1/8 pro mist so that should work. There just are so many brands in this category, and it's hard to pick one. 7Artisan, SLR Magic, this, Meike etc.
Meike are in the same price bracket as the Vespids, I'd go vespid over Meike.
Not shot on them, but from what I've seen the 7Artisans have a lot of inconsistencies and lens breathing
@@EdProsser Roger! Thanks for the tip!
Epic!!!
My favourite is the 24
Love that one too, but the 16 has now become top dog for me!
If they are made for APSC they should just do 23mm & 33mm which would translate to 35mm and 50mm easily. I am nitpicking but its kinda annoying.
The variance in crop between ASP-C / S35 cameras is not uniform so it'll differ for everyone depending on their camera ranging from 1.3 - 1.6x
damn these lenses look good for their price! shame there's no ef mount :(
Yeah I wish they would at least make these mirrorless only mount lenses interchangeable
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🔥
Im a bit disappointed many of these "lower cost" cinema lenses only built for mirrorless (which I understand for size/price/weight) don't embrace LPL ... stop with the custom mounts! Go "fully" cine, and embrace LPL for goshsakes. Anything that is not AF, should be PL or LPL, period.
Yeah it's just these are aimed at people with cams with mirrorless mounts. I don't think a lot of people shooting on LPL mount cams are gonna be buying or even renting these.
Totally agree though, I think bare minimum if you're realising mirrorless mount cine lenses they need to make them user unterchangeble
@@EdProsser I know Im not the target, I still think as more and more people go more "cinema" on housings, focus, throw, casing ... we should move to more cinema mounts for darned! Oh well :/

Haha….ok….I like the accidental MOHAWK !!
You should really have put Nightwalker and the focal lengths in the title to make this searchable - you’re throwing away subscribes otherwise.
I tend to update my titles with keywords a bit later on 👍
Algorithm pulls transcript and description for keywords too.
@@EdProsserdefinitely worked for me
Just wanted to come back and update, this has been my best performing video in the history of the channel, no key words in the title.
These lens reviewers shoudl really stop applying mood setting music when demoing camera equipment. It affects the mood.
stop being so moody
@@EdProsser That music adjusted my mood. 😁
