the greatest sequel of all time
Definitely up there with The Squeakquel
Can't wait for the next part:
"The Stafford gambit is undead"
Every time I watch a stafford gambit video, I am blown away by how many layers of tricks there are
Like an onion?
@@dooflydetailguuy4349No, like a Stafford
same
@@dooflydetailguuy4349Like an Ogre
Basically its good for short games, because it has many many loopholes, it looks good but not at all a good opening for solid positional players
Eric: "This is still secret Stanford gambit prep."
After the most natural bishop capture:
"I have never seen this before, oh God."
1:46
I laughed at that too 😂 It’s the most obvious move on the board
@@AUniqueHandleName444it's really not that obvious.. it's giving up defense of the key F3 square. There's a reason that Qxc4 is far, far more commonly played than Bxc4
So glad to see the despite the fact that the Stafford was brutally murdered, Eric Rosen was able to resurrect it.
Shoutout to your opponent for being so deeply prepared for this line. I’m a ≈2050-2080 on Lichess and I only have such in-depth prep for a few of my main opening lines or to fight against common traps like the Englund
I am 2050-2100 on lichess 10+0 and I have in depth knowledge of 0 openings. I want to learn but I don't know where. Can I ask you where do you learn openings in depth.
@@aliensconfirmed3498use the Lichess study feature and just go through the lines you often have. Check them with the engine and with the database. Its really not that hard
A reminder of the kind of wizardry we'll be missing out on with Jonathan's chess retirement. 😢
Finally.. more of Stafford gambit 🎉🥳
"so you see there's this line in the Stafford where you sell all your vital organs"
You had us in the first half🙂
eric rosen is the type of guy to revive an opening, brutally kill it, and then bring it back to life
sad there will be no more daily elephant gambit, vampirechicken such a good player
I am a Stafford fan, and learnt it from this man, I try play it every time with black. Thanks Eric
I remember catching a titled player in a pet line and then losing anyway. I pretty much stopped memorizing traps after John Fedorowicz beat my favorite over the board in blitz.
Got spooked with the thumbnail and its even not haloween yet.
Followed the game along with Stockfish and I'm super impressed by your opponent. Apart from 20.Bxf7 and 28.e5 (giving Black an option of a draw), they played almost the perfect engine moves until the endgame. Great work/prep for a 2150 rated player.
That was really tricky, good job Eric!
Stafford Gambit ❤
Eric down 4 points of material "This is all prep 🗿"
I cracked up so hard with the tittle, thx for the great content Eric❤
🎶The Stafford gambit is not dead its surely alive!🎵
only disappointment is he didn’t said Stafford gambit time….😂😂
Wow, Eric and the Stafford are SOOOOOOOOOOOOO fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Eric is a necromancer 🧙♂️
I just watched Schrantz announcement to leave chess. Very sad :(
This was the best stafford game i have ever seen!!
14 moves in: "this is all stafford prep, down 2 bishops"
Stafford Gambit to Eric:
"You won't let me live . . . You won't let me die."
Incredibly improperly underestimated channel. U the wizard. Hugs from Russia.
The Stafford gambit is dead, long live the Stafford gambit
Does Jonathan still edit your videos considering his announcement, Eric?
First 15 moves were top engine theory by white. Either interesting memorization or some referencing.
IM Rosen: "My king is still in a small predicament." Me: "AAAAAGHHHH!!!"
At 3:00 : why does Bishop back to e2 not work? It defends the pawn, gets out of trouble and should the rook take, the king takes back and while the knight can fork the queen and the rook, the queen can just take the black queen. If Rd8 Qe3, if Nc4 Qf4. Am i missing something?
Yeah, after bishop back the rook will take with check , after the king takes the rook the queen will take the f3 pawn with check and after king back to e1 the horse is coming with check, only square of the king is d2 and then the rook on the 8th rank is coming to finish. Hope you understoond
Where can I find the coffee chess game showed on 1:42 ?
Schrodinger's favorite opening.
I haven't watched your videos since ages for some reason. I realised with this video, that I missed you ❤ (like a brother)
Takeaway: Resurrection is tough.
what if white plays on 16. move bishop back to e2? same position as before but black has no bishop. I do not understand why black played bishop e5 on 15. move
Rook takes bishop queen takes pawn with check and other rook coming to d file should be winning
Me thinks Eric could write a book about the Stafford Gambit. 🙂
Oh no my Eric!
While amidst the act of resurrecting, maybe you could ressurrect Jonathan's channel in the not too distant future?
you had this before in the video " Revealing my Deepest Stafford Gambit Preparation " :)
How has he never seen bishop takes on c4 before? Isn’t that the trap?
Why didn’t he take the knight on move 11?
You could say Stafford gambit has Rosen (risen 😂)
Maybe you should start playing the Elephant Gambit now the King of the EG has abdicated...
Who is that, if I may ask?
@@jonathanbernhard5418 Jonathan Schrantz, aka vampire chicken, who announced yesterday that he's giving up playing chess. He knows (and works for) Eric and played a lot of Elephant Gambits on his YT channel. Don't tell anyone, though, because I play that opening and don't want others to know about it!
Re: the in game Rosen trophy comment... I'd have thought it would cap at a binary-significant move number, something a power of 2 (2^8 = 256 moves being the most logical).
no-one uses anything but an `int` these days; the number 300 (or maybe 600 if ply) will be hardcoded
IDK if it was intended this way, but this is a subtle, nice tribute to one of the great chess youtubers as he hangs it up for now.
Eric I can't handle the emotional rollercoaster of you single handedly destroying and resurrecting an opening gambit. Please be more considerate in the future.
Imagine playing 20 moves like Stockfish and still losing...
Give your artist a raise, or drive a stake through his heart. Either is fair, but something needs to be done after his last two brilliant artworks.
HES BACK
The Stafford gambit is dead. Long live the Stafford gambit.
NOOOOO WAYYYY
Why pawn didn't take knight on g5?
It blunders mate
Queen to f2 mate threat if pawn leaves f file
7:30
sad to see white blunder here, after playing such a strong game. the move is Rd3, and the B escapes. (*)
but the problem started earlier, with Rd7+ at 6:45, when white should have focused on getting the other rook out.
BUT ...
when playing minor pieces vs. Q, with king safety not good, you MUST set up a fortress, with all pieces near the king, and protecting everything, and the Q is helpless. then slowly advance. so, at 5:12, the proper move is Be2.
(*) good to see that stockfish agrees with me.
Wow. It'll eventually turn out that every best line for black in the Stafford leads to mate. 🤣🤣🤣
My favourite part is when Eric says:"it's stafford time" and start staffording all over the place
Okayy it's Stafford time ❤
good one
Eric Rosen when he doesn't get views : Stafford Gambit
Yes it’s great how Eric gives us what we want!
Back from the dead!
PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS IN YOUR HOME, SCHOOL, OR GARDEN.
Oh No my Gambit!
I would be so mad lol
Oh no a zombie 😱
narrowly winning on time against much lower rated opponent... so it 's alive, but hardly ;)
Opponent was literally following Stockfish for great part so it hardly matters
@@aliensconfirmed3498 that's very true and I was jokingly bashing Stafford, not scientifically :) I know it works pretty well even against high rated players in short time controls, if they cant rely just on knowing theory.
Stafford Gambit time😁
First 🎉
OH NO REINCARNATION
I will skip through and only watch the staffor parts
I guess you'll have to watch the whole video then 😁
@@eric-rosen I did 🫶
I’m a simple man: I see Stafford gambit, I like
stafford gambit isnt "alive", bad players are alive, any losing opening is "alive" if your opponent blunders

First, I guess
first to say first, congrats!
This is bullshit. I tried it OTB twice and opponents not knowing it played top engine moves. Eric shows only games when opponents blunder or he flags them. In real life you end up with +5 for white.
