@TrueUnderDawgGaming Hey Underdog, his jump in kick actually the best to do off of hydro boost. Sonic Fox was fiddling with it and it has virtually no gap for attack when the kick happens. Its genuinely Upgraded light, expecially considering if its blocked you are at anywhere from +4 to +9 and since he is left super close, his 10 frame mid can loop it for a second amplify. Hydro boost also launches for jump kombos. Rain is just upgraded jacqui without an air to ground mix up. That being said this move is super good

Rain has a ridiculously hard time to get past 30% DMG across all of his abilities, yet Kollector gets +35% unbreakable plus at any point he launches you, he gets an armor breaker that extends combos , NRS for yall
Josie Kelly Yeah, and RoboCop can get 45% as well, the point isn't that it's impossible, literally every character has a d2 KB that can combo into FB, my point is that for a character with 5 different launcher moves, his damage is low
2 more things to note that weren’t mentioned. The Katar Toss can be amplified after hit and the Katar is pulled out of them (it also does slightly more damage than standard amplify), and when the Water Bubble attack is amplified down it actually does slightly more damage.
Hold up...WHAT!? I knew about the downward bubble doing more damage but you can amplify the Katar after its hit? Is it just as simple as pressing amplify after it's in them?
@@tygerhil9505 Yup, you have a bit of time after it lands and this adds nice pressure to the Katar Toss cuz a smart opponent would fear the possibility of being amplified and stuck in that animation for a few frames.

I've been trying to utilise it in Towers of Time and I'm really happy I've got another mechanic to use. I'm trying to utilise Purple Rain but I'm not quite sure how to combo it in with stuff since it only appears in specific spaces.
Hey! You probably didn't know this, but Rain's hydro boost is bugged! If you are on the right side, the one where player 2 is, and you do his back 2 1 and cancel into hydro boost, it won't work properly! I found out about it when I was playing towers of time! So keep this in mind and don't get overhyped about hydro boost until NRS fixes it. I even made a video where I mention Rain's glitch for visual evidence.
He's so difficult to play for me, like the execution and stuff like that... He's my all time favorite MK character so I'll try to get better with my boy
Just keep trying he’s definitely weird combo wise but you’ll get the timing and connections down eventually. Check out some combo videos and try some of the combos you see.

Sub-Zero's slide can't even punish Tidal Wave from point blank. The block stun is too much. You basically recover at the same time, and you're blocking before he can move. If you delay the block a split second, you can flawless block Sub's slide and punish him with a B1-geyser kick full combo. I... I need to sleep... 😅
I am having a blast with him. Currently on tower 5 and using a Kustom Variation. He is so flashy with everything he does and it makes my day having my main back.

Same! He's my favourite MK character and I'm so happy I can play as him again! I love the flashy moves, the snarky intros and OMG the taunts too, "Bow to your God!", "I'm the reason mortals cry", he's so much fun.
With quantum strike and good movement he’s like Fujin 2.0, you can actually dive bomb even if you just amp the straight air quantum strike. It’s a lot hard to execute but it allows you to quickly switch to either side and then dive bomb them
When I first learned that Rain was coming back, I wasn't excited for his return. After some time with him, he is a very solid character that can be dangerous from any range. I got a feeling that he will be the most played character out of the three new characters.
Yesss. I've fought a couple Rain players online and he is so awesome. I love how much his powers are incorporated into his attacks too, he's not just a ninja with water powers, he's Rain 💧😂

There’s a lot of things about Rain that could be better but man is he fun to play as once you master him🙂 I live to overwhelm and fluster opponents with Rains stagger pressure and hit and run style of play
A more in depth look at water ball amplify: Up: This is good for resetting gravity far into combos. Get far into your combo and you can use this and it will still launch the opponent super far up. Back: This move is great for ending combos because it restands and leaves the opponent open for pressure because they're so close to you. Forward: This move is great for getting out of the corner and getting the opponent close to you from full screen. Down: This is your main combo extender and slightly damages the opponent and bounces them right in front of you. All in all they're all useful for a certain thing, you just have to use them right.
I can confirm that the waterball move is definitely a good ability to have as a combo extender (besides geyser palm although I use the two moves together for great effect).
@@ELG-Supercell1000 it is but rain has the best forward dash in the game, even without his non-tournament buff that increases its speed and distance. Dash cancel rain’s mids and you have a good pressure once again
I can live with the low damage, but the problem I'm having is that I can never open anyone up. They just block everything, maybe I should add more short hops? Idk I wish he had some way to open up the opponent.
Honestly my only problem with him is the execution on dialing in combos with him, they’re unnecessarily strict for a couple of his strings. (Just in case it needs to be said yes I have release check turned off)
@@jacko7013 no his 133 combo string sometimes requires strict dial in timing which can occasionally screw me over if I’m not precise. The other one too but I don’t use it too much outside of pressure or punishing.
Harder than most, but its a pretty low bar for combo difficulty on mk11... or at least complexity wise. I guess a 1 frame link is a 1 frame link no matter the game.
Rain in fun af but his combos require a lot of precision and timing and also don’t do much damage so a little difficult at first. Gonna have to rely on a lot of muscle memory.
People saying he needs more damage rain will basically chip at you and his krushing blows are good asf... u just gotta at least be able to make use of it which isn’t hard.
A cenobite theme costume would be nice for some characters i would like to see raiden vs pinhead. Priest of pain out fit for shang Tsung would be a must
A little bit of MK9 throwback: you can hold the weather ball up and build uppercuts into your combos. 315 damage for 1 bar and you only have to make a single string into the armor break special as an ender.
Throw distant not being oki with rain is nbd. This dude can wave dash across the screen there and back before you even get up. He’s been very rewarding to play. His buttons are fantastic.
I'm disappointed at how he turned out... High execution, low damage, every special move demands amplify and he really has poor reach. They nerfed the hell out of his Lightning, you can't even make an MK Trilogy Kustom build.
I think if they buff his damage he be good I like him but I main shao and the fact "worst 11 character" can do real good damage makes it hard to be impressed with rain but his speed is nice and animates so I can't say he the worst I have fun with him just the damage should be big for a reward after you pull combos off
He's a mix-up character with frame advantage in most of his overall move set(aquirable special moves included), but he lacks in overheads and I think he needs a buff.
It really just depends on people’s dial in’s as some are harder than others so just keep practicing see how fujin mains do there’s since their the kings/queens of doing dial ins
Combos for rain are string into geyser kick amp/ water ball down amp into back 1 into 2,4,2 into geyser kick for damage, or into riptide for a restand, or 2,4,2,1+3 for oki and not too bad damage and it has a brutality attatched to it. His combos are really fun
I've been waiting to play as Rain for SO long! He's my all time favourite MK character. Mileena is also such a fun, IP close fighter that makes her fun to play. I'm hoping in MK12 we can get all the ninjas together, that would be dope.
Rain is wayy better than mileena ( sorry mileena fans) but most of his combo strings are safe, he does good damage, and he looks like a really fun character. Do Rambo next
I can't believe that people are requesting for more damage. I mean. Seriously?? This character is good in every range. He has more special moves than most characters and they are also VERY useful. Most of his moves are pretty safe. He has plenty of combo starters despite not having an overhead starter. Honestly i think that he is currently a top 5 mk11 character.
I think it’s because they’re expecting him to play like MKX or his MK9 counterpart even though we both know that wasn’t gonna be the case regarding how this game works 😆
i agree, combos are just combo's that give you chances to deal some dmg (and rain can do decent dmg you just have to work for it), and he seems like a very well rounded character (arguably), he has tool for every situation, safe on alot of his attacks and looks like he cannot lose to any playstyle
@@lennydickson8845 you funny. It doesn't take much time to realise what we are dealing with. This game didn't come out yesterday and if you are really into the game you know all other characters very well and by that you can make a fair judgement without much playing time.
Which makes him mediocre. Kinda like a Fujin situation. You are going to spend more time trying to land a full combo that does no damage than anything else, and since he can barely zone (or get in easily) he will probably get countered.
@@danaltamirano2546 he has other things to make up for it and thinking about it,you can't have someone who has a tool for every situation have great dmg, that would be bad balancing. also his zoning is pretty decent, like underdawg said 'that the kind of zoning i like to see, not many projectiles just far reaching attacks that can control space and open up combos' his only main weaknesses are just combos dmg and lack of overheads (for fun, heres my pros and cons fluctuations for rain, will change if someone finds a pro or con) RAIN Strengths: +strong mobility +good zoning +safe on alot of attacks +wake-up pressure +well-rounded (arguably) Weaknesses: -low combo dmg -little to no overheads -alot of his main launchers require meter -mix-ups are lacking abit -high execution barrier on combos, tho most of the time it won't rly matter as the reward isn't the best
The combos look nice if u can pull them off but they do like 30-34% dmg for 2 bars. Shao Kahn gets 50% for those resources without the heavy execution aswell... They gave us Rain but did everything so he can't be that good. Now I don't even wanna think abt getting Ermac or Reptile...
I love that they brought rain back I mean he should have been in the base game but I’m honestly extremely disappointed with this version of rain he could have been way better
I actually figured out how to get 32% kombos for one bar with Rain. I use Hydro Boost and Water Ball, and my b&b kombo is f2, into Hydro Ball, 2 in the air, f2, 3+1, 4 for 29%. If I do it off a jump in though I can get it to 32%, and if I throw a Water Ball at the end I can extend it even more for another bar and end it with Argus Plunge or whatever.
To hit the jump combo with the weather ball, press b1 after you land. It will slow the opponent's fall and give you time to hit the b212. The timing is very strict though.
I’ve been playing Rain a lot more than the other 2 and my only complaint is the input for geyser kick. The back forward motion feels so goofy to try and juggle. Having geyser palm feels so much better and it accomplishes the same thing. I love the frame traps though
I found that water ball down amplify is max damage for rain. Use the regular version if ur at sweep or jump distance. Use the upwards version if ur midscreen. Use the far version if ur fullscreen. And the backwards version if u want to zone but I haven't really found any utilty for it unless u wanna restand the opponent in the corner.

I think he’s execution heavy if you want to play him right, he isn’t too good otherwise. Kinda reminds me of Fujin.
With quantum strike and good movement he’s like Fujin 2.0, you can actually dive bomb even if you just amp the straight air quantum strike. It’s a lot hard to execute but it allows you to quickly switch to either side and then dive bomb them
Oh and you can also jump 3 or 4 into air quantum strike and double amp for 23% I think
He's way easier to use than Fujin.

When I first learned that Rain was coming back, I wasn't excited for his return. After some time with him, he is a very solid character that can be dangerous from any range. I got a feeling that he will be the most played character out of the three new characters.

A more in depth look at water ball amplify:
Up: This is good for resetting gravity far into combos. Get far into your combo and you can use this and it will still launch the opponent super far up.
Back: This move is great for ending combos because it restands and leaves the opponent open for pressure because they're so close to you.
Forward: This move is great for getting out of the corner and getting the opponent close to you from full screen.
Down: This is your main combo extender and slightly damages the opponent and bounces them right in front of you.
All in all they're all useful for a certain thing, you just have to use them right.
I can confirm that the waterball move is definitely a good ability to have as a combo extender (besides geyser palm although I use the two moves together for great effect).
Did you know that his F2, L1(throw input) is a re-stand ? It’s really useful because it saves one slot instead of riptide 👌🏼

Try using a mix of low and high combos, that normally works. Sending the wave normally does some work.

@@jacko7013 no his 133 combo string sometimes requires strict dial in timing which can occasionally screw me over if I’m not precise. The other one too but I don’t use it too much outside of pressure or punishing.

Rain in fun af but his combos require a lot of precision and timing and also don’t do much damage so a little difficult at first. Gonna have to rely on a lot of muscle memory.

A little bit of MK9 throwback: you can hold the weather ball up and build uppercuts into your combos. 315 damage for 1 bar and you only have to make a single string into the armor break special as an ender.

Throw distant not being oki with rain is nbd. This dude can wave dash across the screen there and back before you even get up. He’s been very rewarding to play. His buttons are fantastic.
I'm disappointed at how he turned out... High execution, low damage, every special move demands amplify and he really has poor reach. They nerfed the hell out of his Lightning, you can't even make an MK Trilogy Kustom build.

I think if they buff his damage he be good I like him but I main shao and the fact "worst 11 character" can do real good damage makes it hard to be impressed with rain but his speed is nice and animates so I can't say he the worst I have fun with him just the damage should be big for a reward after you pull combos off

It really just depends on people’s dial in’s as some are harder than others so just keep practicing see how fujin mains do there’s since their the kings/queens of doing dial ins
For starters make sure release check is off in options
practice errons 211 1+2 string (hardest dial-in) consistently. if u can do that u can do any other dial in with no problem

Combos for rain are string into geyser kick amp/ water ball down amp into back 1 into 2,4,2 into geyser kick for damage, or into riptide for a restand, or 2,4,2,1+3 for oki and not too bad damage and it has a brutality attatched to it. His combos are really fun

I can't believe that people are requesting for more damage. I mean. Seriously?? This character is good in every range. He has more special moves than most characters and they are also VERY useful. Most of his moves are pretty safe. He has plenty of combo starters despite not having an overhead starter.

i agree, combos are just combo's that give you chances to deal some dmg (and rain can do decent dmg you just have to work for it), and he seems like a very well rounded character (arguably), he has tool for every situation, safe on alot of his attacks and looks like he cannot lose to any playstyle

Which makes him mediocre. Kinda like a Fujin situation. You are going to spend more time trying to land a full combo that does no damage than anything else, and since he can barely zone (or get in easily) he will probably get countered.

@@danaltamirano2546 he has other things to make up for it and thinking about it,you can't have someone who has a tool for every situation have great dmg, that would be bad balancing. also his zoning is pretty decent, like underdawg said 'that the kind of zoning i like to see, not many projectiles just far reaching attacks that can control space and open up combos' his only main weaknesses are just combos dmg and lack of overheads (for fun, heres my pros and cons fluctuations for rain, will change if someone finds a pro or con)

The combos look nice if u can pull them off but they do like 30-34% dmg for 2 bars. Shao Kahn gets 50% for those resources without the heavy execution aswell... They gave us Rain but did everything so he can't be that good. Now I don't even wanna think abt getting Ermac or Reptile...

I actually figured out how to get 32% kombos for one bar with Rain. I use Hydro Boost and Water Ball, and my b&b kombo is f2, into Hydro Ball, 2 in the air, f2, 3+1, 4 for 29%. If I do it off a jump in though I can get it to 32%, and if I throw a Water Ball at the end I can extend it even more for another bar and end it with Argus Plunge or whatever.
The best way to combo the upward waterball throw is doing an uppercut afterwards then doing a string

To hit the jump combo with the weather ball, press b1 after you land. It will slow the opponent's fall and give you time to hit the b212. The timing is very strict though.
I’ve been playing Rain a lot more than the other 2 and my only complaint is the input for geyser kick. The back forward motion feels so goofy to try and juggle. Having geyser palm feels so much better and it accomplishes the same thing. I love the frame traps though

I found that water ball down amplify is max damage for rain. Use the regular version if ur at sweep or jump distance. Use the upwards version if ur midscreen. Use the far version if ur fullscreen. And the backwards version if u want to zone but I haven't really found any utilty for it unless u wanna restand the opponent in the corner.
