I can't express enough how thankful I am for you making these videos. They have really helped to demystify circuit design for me and inspired and empowered me in a serious way.
Thanks for sharing .. ❤ .. at last an honest unbiased opinion on what is a very important audio device .. (the mixer) .. an island in the storm of a thousand audiophile reviews on hifi components .. thanks once again .. next up .. mastersounds, Condesa and isonoe ❤️
Goes to show that a mixer that people generally love the sound of can be packed with ICs and mid grade components. These breakdowns are important to help people learn. Many of these rotaries are like hifi equipment. HiFi reviews always measure but I rarely see a review that breaks down the equipment and critiques the parts selection and circuit design.
Most of the HIFI reviewers are not trained engineers, they are skilled listeners however. The manufacturers would also not let them tear apart the equipment. The main reason they don't open them up is because it does not matter, how they sound is what is what matters. An excellent sounding product can be achieved in many ways, if designed well and made well. @@mixersinside
I remember when this unit came out, it got a lot of hate from DJs in my area for sounding stale vs. the Urei 1620. I think that was mostly uninformed love for "warmth", but it would be fantastic to see you do more rotaries, old and new. 1620 and Euphonia! Cheers.
For sure this mixer is a low THD type focused on faithful audio reoroduction while UREI 1620 with output transformers will give you warmer, much more saturated sound.
Please can you make the same measurements (THD vs Frq) for A&H Xone92 or 96 - will be very interesting :)? Thank you for the great episode (as usual :) )
Don’t be shy with pumping us full of information - we can handle it! :-D Anyway, at 6:10, you mention that the disconnected input “floats” and causes noise to be added to the summed cue output. Could you please explain this in a little more detail, or does it require electrical-engineering skills to get a deeper understanding?
Every floating input without any "stiff" potential can pick up noise. Grounding the unused inputs of cue summing amp guarantees 0V potential = no noise pickup.
Another cool video, thanks! I think it would be helpful if you give THD at a certain gain or output level. Unity Gain at 2V RMS is what most mixer companies have settled on. The colour of certain LEDs is of no information to me at least. Found the THD over frequencie plots really interesting. What was the output level for them?
The color of a LED is an essential information because it tells if you operate at right levels according to manufacturers recommendations. The metering in Rane is very minimalistic and in this case the LED behaviour can be indeed confusing when you think about the output level, but as you may noticed i gave the THD info at various settings. Showing the THD values from green zone till overload gives you information about the the full spectrum of mixers behaviour. THD vs Frequency of both Rane and Omnitronic was plotted at unity gain setting. I wouldn't precisely stick to the values on the plots, because as i said my measurement device that lets me do THD vs frequency measurement is not super clean. But my setup for measuring THD at 1kHz is exceptionally clean (i show it in the Ecler video). I use 2V RMS for the input.
@@mixersinside I have a friend that has the original one from like 1999 which has the telephone jack power supply and I want it to upgrade it with better phono chips and summing chips. I want it to sound more like a Bozak or Urie if possible. It has the Black beauty pots that most claim to be the best. So I was considering it.
Can the difference in high frequency THD be explained by different slewrates of the different OP amps in the mixers or is there something more going on?
@@mixersinside That would need to come from Resor directly. Not me brother. Hopefully in the future if you channel keeps growing brands can send you their mixers to take apart and review

i have been wanting to upgrade my dj mixer. ..i constantly mix for fun. its my therapy. ive had a vestax pmc 16, rane empath, omni 402, xone 43. i liked all of these mixers. each one has their own feel and charm. the pmc is dead, i wacked it out. the rane is still working but the cue is on and off the xone. love the faders. but feels sterile omni 402, no fader, not sterile. but no 3 band eq love rotary, love mix faders. each one has a purpose. a feel. a time . a place. so i wanted to buy a radius 4..........crazy about it. i cant sleep. but i will be broke for the next two months. valves, 3 band . isolator , shiny. i just watched MIXERS INSIDE. and we get on about the bit of . what is used to produce the machine. its...like i have always. i have never had MAC. always pc. same processors. ... i have ordered an omni422.mixers inside convinced me....run it through eventide h9 for harmonics or warmth... Radius 4 can wait for the summertime, but i want to try it out and decide for myself. thank u for a look inside the machine
I think that mixing on cheaper and more expensive mixer can give equal fun and looking inside those devices shows that we are really speaking about nuances.
Another level of content, wow! Keep it coming!

Hi, always a pleasure for a novice like me to discover the inside world of rotary mixer ;) thanks !
amazing content again
Very interesting. Nice to se thd in frequency.
Another great video, keep them coming
Thank you!! You are a legend - the full spectrum thd test at the end was amazing!!
thanks for the knowledge on how to read shematics

i see the Mastersounds Radius 4 has arrived...Eagerly waiting to see if i bought into the hype and should have gotten something a bit cheaper 😅
These vidoes are fantastic!
3 mixers i'd love you to check: Xone 43, Xone PX5 & the Xone 96
Great stuff. Rodec Mx series next please :)
MX1400 and BX-14 soon.
First of all: Thank you so much for creating the channel I've always wanted to find!
Secondly, when are you going to strip down the Euphonia? 😉
I'm going to do it when someone sends it to me :)

Please define "better".

It's linked with open loop gain bandwidth of the op amps.
