    I am forever in awe when our planet reminds us that we are on a celestial body that will do as it wishes and we are only along for the ride. I pray we don't take actions that we think are corrective yet end up making matters worse, for we tend to think far too highly of ourselves and our accumulated scientific knowledge. One of the first among us to end up proven wrong is scientists. Let us go slow, not rush. God does great work, He doesn't need our help.

    I'm normally a fan of more dramatic clouds, but I still certainly enjoy peaceful clouds, and this is a really fantastic video of them!! The time lapse videos are just amazing!

    This happened june 21st 2019 where i live. It was about 2am when saw fingerprint like glowing clouds in the north while having my summer solstice nicht hike. It was the most beautifull sight, verry intense. This video helps me relive the experience, but its nothing like seeing it in real life.

      I've never seen the noctilucent clouds before, but I definitely understand. Nothing can beat seeing it in real life, so I'm definitely going to try to this season.

    Oh Earth 🌎, you re so stunningly beautiful yet we are hell bent on destroying you. You give us so much yet we give back nothing in return. You keep healing your wounds yet we keep killing your inhabitants. If only we humans can see the error of our mistakes, we would thrive in mutual benefit. Here's to a world where we see our mistakes and set right our wrongdoings.

    I wonder how long these clouds have been around? At 75 years of age, amateur astronomer, former GI who has been stationed at three Alaskan locations, I have never seen what is shown here. Is this a recent discovery? Or is it something besides natural clouds?

    • @NightLightsFilms
      @NightLightsFilms  7 років тому

      Well noctilucent clouds have likely been around a long time. Whether or not their occurence is increasing is still a scientific debate, as some scientists find there has been no trend since at least the first observations 1940-50's, but some argue (with data) that the number of occurrences increases at lower latitudes. We have to be very careful when considering this, because nowadays the general public has more access to technology and information, that can also have a role to play in people 'detecting' the phenomenon seemingly more. We are attempting to understand these clouds and work towards finding connections with our climate changes at the moment. :)

      The increased water vapor transport into the mesosphere is due to methane emissions. This has caused a significant increase in the frequency and visibility of noctilucent clouds. See: www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/climate-change-responsible-these-rare-high-latitude-clouds-180969712/

    The clouds are methane, being transported by the wind patterns of the Earth, called Ferrel Cells. The transport brings the Arctic moisture to the horse latitudes, where any moisture is dropped at the boundary of the Hadley Cells. Where the methane goes from there is not yet clear, in a few years there will be more than enough methane at lower latitudes, to entirely circle the planet.

    • @NightLightsFilms
      @NightLightsFilms  7 років тому +6

      Noctilucent clouds cannot be methane for the simple reason that at the altitude range NLC appear (80-90km), (scientifically proven), the pressure is so low that methane can only be a gas, not even a liquid, so much less a solid... Besides it's a transparent gas that does not scatter / reflect sunlight, so it is not methane, it is ice. Unless published significant scientific data is shown, one cannot just make ignorant statements! As to NLC formation is connected to climate change remains is not yet either scientifically proven! (some scientists are working on the permafrost and NLC).

    noctilucent clouds are water from the sun! sometimes 70k feet up!

    • @NightLightsFilms
      @NightLightsFilms  7 років тому +1

      Water from the sun? The origins of moisture in the mesosphere is unclear and still only at a theoretical stage, but it does not come from the sun or outer space :)
