my first concert was 1/10/1986. Ronnie James Dio was the headliner with an opening act that the venue hadn't even turned the house lights off for. With just a black curtain as a backdrop, Yngwie started playing and I don't anyone breathed until he was done. After a short intermission, Dio came out and just destroyed all while fighting a dragon with a large sword. The evening was a religious experience to say the least.

I was 4. Missed it. Those were great times. I felt it.
I saw that tour. Didn't know much about Malmsteen at that time... blew my mind. I'd never seen guitar theatrics like before, nor guitar playing on that level at the same time. I was feeling sorry for Vivian Cambell having to follow that every night. But Dio obviously kicked ass as well.
I discoevered Yngvie with "Odessey" and I was instantly hooked. I bought the Cd on a whim, and was rewarded. 100% pure kick ass metal.
Saw him live during his spellbound tour. He's an absolute monster. I managed to get a big chunk of his guitar after he smashed it on stage and gave it to the crowd. First heard his Trilogy album when I was 15. I'm 29 now and still play that CD frequently
Man, ECLIPSE is so goddamn good. Everything is in metal unison on that one. riffs, singing, solos, just badass

The music press need to be forced to watch this - they are so determined to erase Yngwie's career. But in the history of rock guitar Yngwie must command several chapters to himself - whether you like him or not. For me his first 4 albums are all time faultless classics - and the rest of them are mostly superb. He is the king of neo-classical metal.

wow, yes, would've been EPIC...saw Dio (Craig Goldie); and Yngwie Malmsteen at Irvine Meadows back in 1988-1989..era..
Goldie was also influenced by Yngwie..and amazingly so was Michael Schenker a tad influenced by the 10 years younger Sweede during the McAuley-Schenker years..I know, cuz I was a complete Schenker-in, to become an Yngwie-clone, to become a Michael Sweet -in, to become a sorta Segovia-clone..then full circle back to Schenker.. yet before guitar at age 18, I was a drummer and a John Bonham-clone, starting at age 12-13. J.
Another soulful rock/metal singer I absolutely love (3rd in all time fav singers) is Corey Glover of Living Colour. Great vocal range, charisma like James Brown, very versatile. And since we're talking about Living Colour, Vernon Reid is easily my favorite metal guitarist and one of my favorite jazz guitarists of all time. A great blend of jazz, funk, and even a little punk to create and incredibly unique sound of metal. LIVING COLOUR IS BADASS!

After being a fan of Yngwie since the late 80’s I finally saw him live just a few years back (May 2013) at NOLA House Of Blues.
I accidentally had dinner with his bassist before the show which was an amazing experience. Yngwie put on a show that was 100% about the audience. To top off an already unbelievable night he was flipping his Guitar pics to the crowd and as I held a drink aloft cheering him on he flicked one my direction. I felt a clunk in my drink hand , looked up, and had his name on his Guitar pic looking down from the bottom of my drink. I drank Yngwie hand sweat and still have the pic to this day.
Idk why but I love this metal mythos, the constant jokes about him over eating junk food that run through out keep me coming back
scott soto on MARCHING OUT is pure genius. The pitch and vibrato is almost halford, dio, and tate level. NO ONE sings like this anymore.

Yeah, he doesn't REALLY know what he's talking bout when it comes to singing imo. In this video, Tim Owens reminded me of the muppet falsetto alot more than JSSotto's vocals, which frankly didn't sound falsetto to me at all. Though it was a short sample.

Most likely the reviewer is put off by “head voice” or mix some call it, not understanding the physical limitations of Baritone voices that sing in the tenor range. Best example to compare is Kree Nakoorie Bonnet vs Soto. Bonnet has to “scream” on the upper register of this tune and I assume the taste of the reviewer prefers that yelling to Soto’s seamless velvety passagio in that range, handing off the high notes to head voice. “Muppet falsetto” is not a cool put down for what is an extremely difficult technique to learn. But in the end a taste issue nothing more.
I first heard Yngwie on a plastic record in Guitar magazine in the eighties. It was Black Star. I rode my bike as fast as I could to the record store and bought that awesome album.
I was lucky enough to see him in a nightclub, Shades, near Jacksonville, Florida, in the early 90's. I was 10 feet from Yngwie for the entire show. There was one person in front of me; it was like getting the most incredible guitar lesson ever. Absolutely amazing!
Yeah, black star was the first Yngvies song I ever heard. While I'd heard shredders before, I'd never heard one that was such a combination of speed, technicality, soul and intention. While my personal favorite guitarist will always be EVH (mostly for his overpowering rhythm playing), Yngvies is definitely up there for me along with George Lynch, Billy Gibbons, Randy Rhodes, Marty Friedman and Chris Poland. My absolute favorite guitarists list. (I also love John Shaffer and Dave Mustaine as rhythm players and pretty much every guitarist that ever played in the Scorpions as that band has had ridiculous guitar talent throughout there catalogue).
I now want a Yngwie Album that is called

I remember when I first watched this video 8 years ago and now 8 years later it popped to my recommended videos and i'm glad it did.
I honestly love the album Rising Force .. at the first listen it might seem like nonsense noodling , but there are tracks such as Icarus' Dream Suite , Evil Eye and Far Beyound the Sun that are simply genius .

Anyone who thinks it is mindless noodling is simply too stupid to comprehend a dense amount of notes. You’d sound like a braindead culturally bereft ignoramus for saying Paganini’s caprices or the third movement of Beethoven’s moonlight sonata are “stupid nonsense scales,” but because Yngwie plays the sacred boomer genre of rock on a Strat, he’s somehow defiled the holy legacy of classic rock, which as we all know is the only valid genre to play on an electric guitar.
hey buddy, just discovered your Metal Mythos videos, and I watched two back to back Dokken and Malmsteen, and at the end of the Malmsteen video, I couldn't stop laughing. You crack me up, and I love your motormouth, descriptive humor. It is spot on and so funny. You make my day and I look forward to watch more. Especially, one of my all time favorite band, Judas Priest. I do tons of Judas Priest guitar lessons on my channel so you know I am a big Priest fan. :) Thanks for these. This stuff is GOLD.

To guitar players that really, REALLY know their stuff, Yngwie's place in history is undeniable and Rising Force stands as a game changing record - as important as Passion and Warfare, Are you Experienced, Van Halen 1, Blizzard of Ozz etc etc.

Edman's voice on that album is incredible. My fav tracks are Making Love, Faultline and Eclipse. The rest are dog-shit...made only listenable by Edman's voice.

Yngwie Rules! My two faves are Trilogy and Eclipse! While I love all the early stuff I just find those are the two I always go back too.! When Fire & Ice came out I remember being very disappointed. Going back to it years later I dig it!
I can agree with "Trilogy", my favorite Yngwie album by a mile. Mark Boals is the best singer of Yngwie. Soto is a close second. I have to say, Yngwie's guitars sounded so freakin' raw, I can hear his Marshall's breathing with brownsound -- so sweet !!
Marching Out is Yngwie's best release. The songs, the riffing, the vocals, & the shredding is all there. "Soldier without faith" is just amazing!
Eric Leffler The way he starts off the solo on SWF made me look at my speakers and yell WTF! Had to be a one take solo. Easily one of his most impressive and incorporates everything that makes Yngwie so unique in one solo. When people ask me what he's all about or whats all the fuss, I just play that song.

funny thing is that when I heard about Yngwie I asked my dad if he had any of his music (was 10 at the time) and he said yeah and handed me Magnum Opus haha After that I became a die hard Yngwie fan.

I saw the generation axe tour a couple years ago, with zakk wylde, tosin abasi, steve vai, nuno bettencort, when Yngwie played his set there was absolutely no competition. The power, control and intonation in his hands, absolutely multitudes of levels beyond the others.

I love this series. And Yngwie is so close to my heart as a guitar player myself. Saying the first Rising Force album is nothing but a vehicle for his pyrotechnics is like saying the same thing about Beethoven in my opinion. He changed the way guitar was played after Eddie. Can't agree with everything you said but I respect it. Can also tell you don't play guitar. God f****** speed.
Razorfist, I wanna thank you for reintroducing me to the music of Yngwie. I'd heard of him via a couple of old Metal Edge articles but never committed fully to giving his catalog a fair listen. I'm gonna add him to my list of artists to listen to.

How about a Deep Purple Mythos? You'd have plenty to talk about. Three of the best singers in rock in Glenn Hughes, Ian Gillan and David Coverdale (not to mention Rod Evans and Joe Lynn Turner, and even Ronnie James Dio as part of the Purple Family Tree). Then you have three great guitarists in Ritchie Blackmore, Tommy Bolin and Steve Morse. Most importantly for a Mythos show you have all the lineups (MkI, II, III, IV and so on), with all their great yet diverse hard rock masterpieces.

You are the man. This series got me into Darkthrone (and by extension, black metal in general) and now Yngwie Malmsteen. Can't thumb up these videos enough!
Rising Force was Yngwie's first chance to compose his own songs how he wanted. It's more Baroque influenced in terms of structure and melody than the albums that came after it. In terms of a Heavy Metal album, you say its no good. That's because it isn't a 'Heavy Metal' album in the strict sense of the word. Keep in mind it's an album that is guitar focused. I didn't like it at first, but after I moved away from Heavy Metal and started listening to other forms of music, I was able to appreciate Rising Force a lot more. I encourage you to not dismiss Rising Force so quickly. Listen to it for what it is, not a Heavy Metal album, but a classically influenced, primarily instrumental, Guitar centered album.
yeah it does in fact sound more like a passion project than a full blown heavy metal album. A good passion project for sure but not my mug of beer. It's unfortunate though that he's more associated with this passion project than his better written song from later in the decade

Ranking of all the vocalists Yngwie featured on his records:
#1. Joe Lynn Turner - My personal favorite, as soon as I heard the vocal intro of Heaven Tonight I fell in love with his voice, and his vocals on the Rainbow stuff are also the stuff of legends. It's a shame he's not talked about as an all time legend since he's definitely up there with the very best vocalists ever. Such a shame he hasn't done another record with Yngwie but kinda understandable.
#2. Graham Bonnet - The only reason he's #2 is becuse he never technically sang on an Yngwie record (unless you consider Alcatrazz's No Parole as an Yngwie record), but regardless he's just as legendary as JLT, for the complete opposite reason. Such power has never been achieved by a vocalist ever, and he's the only vocalist ever who could stand a charisma match against Yngwie and win lol.
#3. Mark Boals - I must admit it took me a long time to get into his vocals, but I do now and I absolutely love them. both similar power to Graham Bonnet and similar sweetness to JLT, the best of both worlds. I can't think of another vocalist who stylistlcally fits both the glam stuff and the power metal stuff. He's also the vocalist who stood the test of time the best out of all of Yngwie's vocalists, almost 40 years later and still sounds like the record! fucking unbelivable.
#4. Tim Ripper Owens - Yngwie's last vocalist and what a great one! such a powerhouse that's absolutely perfect for Perpetual Flame and even Relentless. Sure, he didn't sounds as good with Judas Priest as Halford but who the fuck would?
#5. Mats Leven - Yngwie's most underrated vocalist by far! His grungy raspiness definitely fits Facing The Animal like a glove and what a shame he hadn't had the chance to do another record with Yngwie, even the chemestry between him and Yngwie in Double Live is fucking incredible!
#6. Jeff Scott Soto - Yngwie's most overrated vocalist just as much as how Mats is underrated, definitely gets too much praise because he was the first. He sounds terrible on the couple songs he's done on Rising Force however on Marching Out he was definitely up there with the best vocalists in the genre. Now he sounds totally different than how he did back with Yngwie, like a totally different and unrelated person, but it's obvious that he takes advantage of that in Sons Of Apollo to do new interesting stuff with his voice and doesn't just try to recreate the past. I'd argue he sounds better now with Sons Of Apollo than how he did with Yngwie back then.
#7. Goran Edman - By far the hardest one to rank. In the studio he's right up there with JLT and Boals and sometimes even better! His delivery on so many songs on Eclipse and Fire & Ice is absolutely god tier and he's the perfect fit for these two albums. Unfortunately when it comes to his performances live he sounds even worse than Yngwie. Out of key and breath almost all the time and with muppet falsettos with out of control vibratos that are even worse than Soto's by a long shot. Nowadays his voice unfortunately aged like a half eaten apple infested with rats, hasn't aged well in the slightest.
#8. Michael Vescera - It's hard for me to get into his vocals and I still struggle, his raspiness definitely works on the new sound of The Seventh Sign but when he sings the earlier stuff and the more i guess old school sounding songs from The Seventh Sign it sounds wrong. He does sound a bit better on Magnum Opus but not by much. Also seems by far like the worst person on this list, since he had the nerve to cheat on his wife with Yngwie's wife, causing Yngwie to almost lose his career.
#9. Doogie White - the man is a solid vocalist and does an acceptable job, but that's the only thing I'd say in favor of him. His relatively mediocre and nothing special vocals definitely held Attack and Unleash The Fury back (I love how you called him Born To Be Mild). Started as the guy who eats everybody's leftovers and will always be the guy who eats everybody's leftovers, he ate JLT's leftovers in Rainbow, he ate Mark Boals's leftovers in Yngwie's Rising Force and he's now eating Graham Bonnet's leftovers in Alcatrazz (or shall I say... New England since it's only Shae and Waldo at this point)

JSS is a laughable hammy cheesy singer! Yes he can sing but phew hard to handle for a full concert. Michael Vescara or Mark Boals had greater range and versatility. Still rather have JSS than the badly auto tuned vocals by Yngwie on World On Fire etc.

Jeff Strainer I listen to a shitload of music, watch - and download - every interview I can lay my mitts on... and then make a rough, bullet-point outline for each album with a 'Best Track' and 'Worst Track'. I even have a star rating system that I ultimately discard, just to remind myself of how to structure each rant. It's loose, with a bit of structure.

Took me back to the late 80s when I first heard of Yngwie while poking holes in the ocean on the USS Houston (SSN 713). An Yngwie fan who was a sonar tech shared his music with us on the stereo system in our galley. Shout out fellow bubbleheads who love metal.

sonnyrocker yes, Razor speaks Japanese so that would be a very cool research project to review Loudness and their history (Japanese interviews included etc. )

Vescera did sound good with LOUDNESS. Not so much with MALMSTEEN . Yngwie is too drugged out looking live. Not saying I would not jump at the chance to see him in concert

I have all of his stuff up until he started "singing" but it was diminishing returns by 2000 and i struggled more and more, when he started "singing" it was the straw that broke the camels back.

At the time I didn't realize how special it was to receive a vinyl copy of trilogy for my birthday. My best friend and fellow metal head at university (2002) bought it for me. It is in excellent shape still and gets played once in a while when I need to be taken back to the time when my neck didn't get sore from head-banging.

This is one of the funniest, most intelligent, and just outright entertaining videos I have ever seen on UA-cam. Maybe that means I don't watch enough UA-cam, or maybe it means Rageaholic is just that awesome. Either way, I enjoyed the shit out of this. Shockingly, I found myself agreeing over and over again...I was thrilled when Goran was hired on, being a fan of his from his work on John Norum's first solo record. Agree 100% on Trilogy, although I'm a big fan of Mats Leven and Facing the Animal as a whole. I was surprised to see that someone enjoyed Eclipse as much as I did, as well. Odyssey...well...I think Yngwie's big change in guitar tone was a turn off to a lot of people, myself included. I chalked it up to his rehab from the car wreck...why else bury what many might consider a legendary lead guitar tone in so much delay, flange, and chorus?
You nailed it though, dude. Album for album. Was kinda wondering why there wasn't a "why the fuck did Yngwie blow the chance to record an album with Jorn Lande?" rant. Jorn's at his best singing other people's material, and I'm pretty confident that shit would've been epic. Spellbound is the first Yngwie tour I purposely skipped - in fact I haven't heard the album all the way through, to this day. I just can't do it. This from a guy who, not so long ago, would've bought a dried up camel turd if someone carved "Yngwie Malmsteen" into it.
