    I want to thank you and Lee Valley for this excellent plant tour. It was particularly interesting for me because the large Veritas shooting plane, and their shooting board fence, were my most recent purchases from Lee Valley. Before I retired, more than 20 years ago, I was a business consultant. One of the joys of that job was to be able to visit client factories and see how things are actually made. People tend to take a lot for granted! Unfortunately, many of the US-based factories that I visited are no longer in operation. For economic reasons the companies have gone out of business or transferred manufacturing operations outside of the US. Your tour of the Veritas plant gave us an opportunity to appreciate the amount of work and the pride that it takes to create Veritas tools. When one considers the efforts of caring workers, the fine materials used, and the expensive machinery required, Veritas tools become a real bargain. i was fortunate to have met Leonard Lee, a fellow woodworker and founder of Lee Valley and Veritas, many years ago. The company and factory are a reflection of his vision. Because of his efforts Canadian workers are making a living and raising their families, while adding value to all of our lives.

      I LOVE this! Thank you so much for sharing. You are 100% correct a lot of companies are switching overseas, which is unfortunate. So, having one in North America is amazing and needed for many reasons. I am glad they stuck to Leonard's vision because it is what the continent needs and our woodworking community needs.
      You are also correct; I appreciate their craftsmanship even more now and am amazed at their prices after seeing how much work goes into them.
      You will love the shooting plane and board, definitely one of my favorites!

    I've been a LVT customer for 40 years but I never knew that they manufactured any of their own tools. One thing that I find to be a bit ironic is their use of CNC ( yes, there is often no other way ), but yet they have no CNC related products in their showrooms. I have done CNC metal and woodworking for 20 years and it really opens up projects that I could not / would not do otherwise.

    • @BatCaveCreations
      @BatCaveCreations  Рік тому +1

      That is awesome!
      This gets super confusing lol so Lee Valley is the main distributor for Veritas tools. Veritas is the manufacturing arm of Lee Valley. Both have the same president, Robin Lee, but they are technically seperate lol Tho Lee Valley does make some of their own items, in the same plant. And that's where I get confused hahah
      They do have some wood cnc products like the clamp rack, router plane box, combination plane box, Things like that. I am learning tho that not everything is available depending on where you are.
      Almost every day, I learn about something new that LV/Veritas offers! 😅🤣

    Every time I see a block plane it’s the iconic three dot design. They switched a few years ago to one egg oval shaped dish finger hold. Both the low and normal angle block planes did this. No idea why they changed it when it was established and stood out. Manufacturing efficiency isn’t enough to change it after 25 years. Especially silly when the miniature block plane has the three dots.

    Why the Shooting plane is soooo expensive? I got the small one ( 97 Chf / 108 Dollar ) but the big one cost 495 Chf / 528 Dollar!

    • @BatCaveCreations
      @BatCaveCreations  Місяць тому +1

      Ya it is a pretty pricey plane but it has to be super solid for the force applied to it so more material and machining goes into it vs a standard bench plane. I do highly recommend it tho. Keep an eye out for a used one! That's how I got mine

    Fascinating, the huge market for hobby tool's. I only ever bought one show boat hobby tool, a lie Neilsen skew block plane. It's handy, I use it but veritas doesn't appeal to me at all. To expensive, to gimmicky, over designed.
    They are retired accountant tool's to give amateur's and dilettantes a false sense of craftsman status. Which is funny because I don't know a single craftsman that trusts accountants further than they can be kicked.

    • @BatCaveCreations
      @BatCaveCreations  Рік тому +1

      Hahahaha oh my....... what?
      Check out some of the comparisons I've done. They are cheaper than LN and include a lot more features that make the tool easier to use

      Lie Neilsen is overpriced too. That was my point. They are show pony tool's. I bought that lie Neilsen thirty years ago when I was a journeyman church organ builder in Seattle. Back then the poseurs were in to bridge city tool's, another overpriced gimmick maker. I prefer Starret squares to their version.

    • @BatCaveCreations
      @BatCaveCreations  Рік тому

      @Joschmoyo I deff agree about Bridge city tool, but with LN and Veritas I have to disagree. Yes they are pricey but imo they are easier to use than vintage planes. Granted both can take the same shavings but it's more in how easy they are set up etc.
      We are all allowed our own opinions so I appreciate you sharing yours.
      I thought you were saying veritas was more $ than LN lol ignore me :)

    • @joschmoyo4532

      @@BatCaveCreations
      Lie Neilsen tools are mostly bronze copies of vintage tools.
      Clifton does a far better job and cast iron is far more appropriate.
      A lot of veritas stuff is just glitzed up copying of vintage type's.
      Their blade adjustment system is just a rip off of the old Norris type.
      Gimmick tools are nothing new. Stanley made quite a few. The 55 was a classic waste of money.
