  • Elliott Smith was such a great guitarplayer. Just listen to this chord from his song "No Name #3".

A good old fashioned fight! What a line! What an image to create a sense of longing for! Elliott was amazing in all departments of songwriting - his playing, his melodies, his modulations, his words. Topped off with a voice that was so authentic and fragile. He sounded like how it felt to feel those things. That is one thing that can not be taught. Just amazing. Thanks for the videos

This is my all-time favorite Elliott Smith song! Such a bittersweet and melancholy tune; I adore this sound.

Good lord. 20 years. I'm 32 and I first heard him with my highschool flame. I've grown up with him and it's so fucking hard to believe 20 years have passed.

I'm near enough 18, graduating in literally 5 hours and I found him a little ways through my Junior year and my taste and guitar playing hasn't been the same since then, he was of another world and even though I didn't exist at the same time during him he still echoes in almost everything I do

Beautiful. Very good points too. I love that song but I hadn't tried to learn it yet. Those high notes make all the difference. It adds a romanticism to it.

Really good demonstration, I started listening to him only after he died too, seeing him live is probably one of my top 2 or 3 things I'd love to see that's not possible. His chord changes are my favorite thing

Thank you. Nice job. Elliot was a special musician. He was a great lyricist, too.

This is amazing. I’ve tried learning this song before and I couldn’t quite get the third chord to sound right. I subbed! Would love to see you go into more detail on other Elliott Smith techniques (if you wanted to of course!)

If you like Elliott's playing you should check out Dave Matthews on Crush and Harry Nillson on something Without Her. Both similar to Elliott in delivery. I got into Elliott just before he died and his death was truly a shock. Despite my love of his music I have never really seriously tried to play anything by him ..... yet.

Damn the ol carpel tunnel does not like stretching that far.....lol. You are right though, beautiful chords, and the strumming is what really sells it......but I'll need to do some hand aerobics before I can easily make those chord changes. ;)

cool channel, i do wanna add that it really sounds like hes playing c6 and d6 instead of the standard A shape bar chord c and d( hes adding the high e in the bar on the 5th fret for c and 7th fret for d). to me once you try it, every other way just doesnt seem right
