Nice to see some appreciation for the virtual missions in Sonic colours, they were a brilliant time killer and acted as a secondary tutorial
Reminds me of a forces stage in a way tbh. Kinda linear and boost-heavy in a way that forces was with modern sonic.

To be honest, I'd say that a lot of Modern stages across the franchise were like this. A lot of Modern stages are linear and automated. They have to be, considering Sonic's poor controls otherwise. I think Forces' problem is that A: it relies way too hard on the Boost function to the point there's no challenge, B: every gameplay style is like it, whereas Classic in Generations had actual level design and C: it's fairly blatent in its automated nature.
Modern Sonic is more-or-less style over substance. You're running from A to B destroying all in your path, so the stage has to employ spectacle to keep you interested - alternate paths, setpeices, cinematic camera angles and the drift feature. Forces has almost none of that (and what there is of it is jarring, hello random snake in Luminous Forest), has shorter levels in general and takes even more control away from the player, so it's much more obvious that you're jogging down a straight line. It's not more linear, it's more *blatently* linear.
To be fair to Colors and Generations, they had more emphasis on control (Colors more so than Generations).
Yeah, a bit. But this has something that forces don't. It looks fun and awesome.

I felt like i was in a trance watching sonic run through one of the coolest levels ive ever seen

But its planet wisp, the most overused sonic stage in all of colours. Actually the ONLY stage used from colours. Jesus christ and planet wisp is just like green hill clone number 52 as well. #FUCKINSWEETMOUNTAIN
@@johndasalty111 Ah yes because a stage having grass in it automatically makes it a Green Hill clone even though we only see the grass for 10 seconds before being stuck in a factory for the rest of the stage.
This is what I wanted in colors. I love colors but it had too much 2d and this is how I would remake the special stages and regular stages by giving more 3d

in my opinion is good not amazing but good sonic generations is better but i don't really like the classic sonic stages there not like the ones from the megadrive (or genesis if ur american) sonic mania captures the classic sonic style perfectly but to be honest if u want a good classic sonic style in sonic generations play the 3DS version even though the modern sonic style in the 3DS version is just a improved version of the sonic rush style classic sonic is the highlight of the game

This is the straightest line I've ever seen in a Sonic game. Even Forces had a COUPLE diverging paths and some top-middle-bottom choices.

The mechanics are fantastic but I cant shake the fact the level is a linear, boost-as-much-as-possible design. It can be far more clever than that given the amount of work put into the physics already. More path choosing, more roaming area, perhaps even just one "hit every spot to proceed" sort of challenge that rewards precise movement.
PBTW(press boost to win). Stage is made that way, that you can hold boost button, till end of the stage.
I love Boost Sonic games but the level are so huge in the end, game design and gets a hit. Also design a level this huge seems incredible time consuming

They really need to bring sonic generations back but maybe with updated stages of upgraded games like have some the 7 rings stages or at least 1 sonic riders stage.
It's great to look at, but theres not much gameplay or interesting challange to it. Just hold boost and miss some cheaply placed spikes. Improve on level design.

@@justingreene6929 You mean like the majority of boost to win Sonic games? Anyway, the camera angles are well done, and even with more linear design there's just enough that it's not completely dull, it would be great for a first level.
Sure, a first level but even in the "boost to win" games there still interesting set pieces that manage to keep my excitement. This level consists of mostly loops and rails. Plus the entire level looks the same through out so there's no sense of progression. Still it's not like Sage could do much better anyway.

Graphically, looks amazing. I love the Gameland colors being brought into Generations.
Gameplay def leaves a bit to be desired, but it's SAGE, I'm not expecting Generations tier level design off the jump. Just add a few diverging paths to give people incentive to play the level more and explore more often.
Sonic generations is what Sonic forces speed battle should have been with an online vs mode with more characters

Why does everybody default to Planet Wisp music from that game? Like, Starlight Carnival (game 3) or Asteroid Coaster (game 6) would have been way better than Game 4's music.
Many point out that this is a Sonic Forces styled level. I disagree. When I saw this, I thought of it as a giant obstacle course, and you need to use sonics mobility to get to the end as fast as possible
