Silva was so scary back then, especially as a Middleweight in Pride FC. He was a savage in the UFC as well at both Middleweight, and LHW, but in Pride, he was the best pound for pound fighter in the world for a long time in my opinion even compared to other greats like Cro Cop, Rampage, and Noguiera. At that time, Pride FC was every bit as good if not superior to the UFC. Hunt is one of those legendary mma fighters as well. Hunt was one of those guys that nobody wanted to see across the ring from them, accept Silva because Silva is a madman. Hunts kicks had leg breaking power, and he could shut your lights off at any moment, and his striking was excellent. Hunt became even scarier as his grappling improved. His grappling never got to an elite level offensively with submissions, but he got to the point where defensive grappling was no longer a weakness in his game. Even before his grappling improvements, Hunt was so physically strong that he could get out of a lot of tough positions with pure strength, and instinct on the ground. Hunt reduced Ben Rothwell to a exhausted mess of a fighter, and Ben Rothwell was a really good grappler, and a very strong, and huge man, yet Hunt completely dominated him in every way after the first round despite all of the disadvantages. Hunt could have easily been a champion if a few fights went slightly different. He fought the best, he beat the best, and he lost to the best.
Hunt came from Boxing and K1 same as Cro Cop. They both were kickboxers fighting in real mma... That's why they had special rules fights ala Wand vs. Cro Cop 1 etc. Because their ground games were next to nothing... They both were naturally strong and as time went on they eventually became MMA Fighters..im not disputing what you said im just adding to it so if noobs are checking the comments they see these guys had actual real deal fights against monsters before ever coming to UFC.

A good matchup, against any other oversized fighter Wanderlei's natural aggression would have evened out the difference, but as low key a fighter as Mark was, the amount of power he generated was phenomenal. Not just the punches but his kicks, and ability to stand with Silva's weight not anchoring him down. In the second Crocop fight he throws a lightning fast spinning back kick, Hunt had a very deceptive physique. He carried a few extra pounds, but underneath was pure steel and his ability to recover from any hit was legendary.
I notice lots of ppl saying they thought Silva won, but are you guys aware of how Pride style judging worked? It wasn't like the UFC, where it's a 10 point must system and the fight is judged round by round. In Pride, they judged the fight as a whole, with heavy emphesis on damage done and effort to finish the fight. So if you take that into consideration, you'll see why Hunt won. At no point did SIlva have Mark in trouble or did big damage. Mark on the other hand, did all that to him and even when Silva took him down, he could never really stay on top cuz Mark would eventually escape or reverse him. Now if it where UFC judging, Silva would have won for sure just because of the takedowns.

I disagree at some points; and I find PRIDE rules kind of BS in other aspects. Let me explain briefly: Regarding your personal view of the fight: I disagree that Hunt managed to avoid being dominated on the ground. You could argue that he managed to neutralize Wanderlei’s dominance on the ground only if he had gotten up or had reversed the position immediately. He did not. Wanderlei kept him on the ground for many and many minutes, probably the biggest part of the fight (if we were rigorously counting minutes and seconds). He definitely did not immediately get up like modern fighters do, like Michael Bisping and Sean Strickland. He got dominated in the ground, despite not suffering “emergency risk” from Wanderlei’s ground and pound. Wanderlei took him down many times being 70lbs lighter. He did dominate the fight by doing so, in my opinion. Now my view at PRIDE rules: PRIDE scored points much more based on who appeared to be winning rather than who was rationally and rigorously winning. It was more based on the “fear and mind dynamics” rather than on points per strike or takedown. Since Wanderlei was clearly afraid of being knocked out, he fought the way he did, and that’s what made him lose. Had he not fought the way he did, he would probably lose the fight by KO. That shows how dumb this is. Hunt did 2 knockdowns on Wanderlei, which is pretty good, but he got dominated in the majority of the fight, on the ground. This rule is unfair to much lighter opponents, because they will be in fear. Thus, fear SHOULD NEVER be a criteria. There was never a points system more rational the UFC’s, and in modern UFC’s rules Wanderlei would have won all 3 rounds undoubtedly.
Is obvious that alot of people don't realize that Silva used to fight Vale Tudo in Brazil where alot of them were open weight tournaments, bare knuckle with almost no rules.

Yes, Silva fought well, but he didn't win in Pride judging terms. Lots of ppl don't understand how different Pride's judging system was. They judged the fight as a whole, mostly based on damage done and effort to finish the fight, which is why Wandy lost. If you look at the fight from that standpoint, you'd see why Mark won. I'm glad to know more about them now at least. Mark Hunt's documentary is well worth watching, strongly recommended.
I disagree with the commentators. I thought the number of times Mark knocked Silva down and at one stage could have ended him tells me the judges scored it right. Silva did well with the take downs, but there was not much in it because he didn't capitalize on it.
I agree... takedowns without doing something with them aren't enough to win a fight... Mark knocked Wanderlei on his ass a couple of times... that's a win...
Never felt MMA as exciting as during the Pride. They were just crazy shows and the Japanese audience and show just gave them the final "eastern mortal kombat festival" -feeling.
let's be honest.... Silva got his whole brain scrambled with those head shots but he didn't hit Mark with but maybe 2 or 3 good ones to the head the whole fight and didn't only take-downs with no real damage EXCEPT those elbows to the ribs. So.... I think that was the right call. Silva ran the whole fight, Mark pressed the whole fight, winner is Mark. And add in the Atomic Butt Drop? cmon man....

All those years he fought and thrived in k1, Pride, and of course finally in the UFC.
I've never seen Mark be a dick to anyone, even when he had every right to be.
I never heard him predict how he'd do like all the other fighters seem to do reflexively. They're certain they're gonna win by knockout etc.......then of course being mma
Cntd- they don't.
Mark is always super humble and doesn't run his mouth like all these other assholes.
And don't get me wrong, I fuckin love em all, but it is nice to see a good ol' fella like Mark Hunt go against the grain
The atomic butt drop is at 17:01.
like kungfu panda!
Early celebration by Silva and his teammates. Loved that Jump by Mark Hunt.
Hunt is a beast!
30:30 damn that punch looks crazy in the replay. Silva was a beast back then and took these punches. this was a good fight between these two fighters...
This is the single most greatest fighting channel that ever has existed.
Fuck george floyd
Santos He was a criminal and it’s crazy that people act like he was a martyr lmao
@@lachlanm2115 where did that even come from?
GREAT FIGHT! Mark was my favorite fighter and Silva was a beast. Much respect
Wanderlei! One of the greatest
Imagine dating a girl and her father was either Silva or Hunt? 😯
Lol no thanks
Only if I'm Fedor or Mirco :)
Wouldn't date her
The staredown...
Wanderlei: I'm gonna kill you.
Hunt: Wonder if McDonald's breakfast is still on the menu?
Yeah great fun idiot
@@martinnilsson5295 Wasn't making fun of Hunt's weight, more pointing out how casual the guy looks before taking on one of the craziest fighters in the world.
Wanderlei took on ppl that outweighed him by 80 pounds. I actually expected him to win this fight and you can see mark's face of surprise at the end when he gets the decision, I was also surprised. Great fight by two amazing fighters
Silva definitely won that!... Popularization in true colors! Now , compare that to Jones vs Reyes...
Wand never had Mark in trouble and the most he did was lay on him and even with the td's, he never could really stay on top cuz Mark would eventually flip him over. Mark did the real damage in the fight, which is why he won besed on Pride's judging. Now if it where UFC judging system, Wand would have likely won. But yh was an amazing fight for sure.
@@jefft7705 I know that there was different judgment , but the thing is that you don't really know that rules... in case of... - (what you should know , if you are that smart)... But then , he had a similar "story"... - guess that you should figure out easy , what I 'm talking about... Ok , - I give you props , so you should not think much!
... It was a draw!!!... But why , he had lost here , if it was perfectly similar to the first one!?!... At least it should be a draw!!! AT LEAST A DRAW!!!... Besides 92,0kg(Bandalei Shiuva) "WC" 126kg(Marickyu Hanntahh) "SAA!!!"...
Are you saying hunt was 80 pounds more than Silva???
@Michael Aguirre yes bro but whit a 80 lbs heavier PROFESIONAL fighter its difficult and more iff is a fighrer like hunt in fact silva i thing he won or a draw but idnt see hunt winning
Vanderlei era muito mais leve que o Mark Hunt que era um peso pesado e um gigante do MMA que aguentava golpes potentes. Hunt ganhou a luta porém foi dominado por um cara que nunca atuou como peso pesado!
Loved the beautiful white ring , the blue gloves with pink tape , the sound of the feet on ring , the respectful crowd
Randy Couture doing commentary. Miss this era.
10:51 mark hunt was that young at that time .time flies
Very nice job by Hunt specially on such short notice. Hunts a devastating striker. Big boy move very well.
Crazy that you could stomp on someone's head or kick while they're flat on their stomach in Pride. That's brutal.
The good ol' days. The way Mark Hunt aimed that knee to Bobish' head...DAMN!!
Original UFC you could straight up punch the groin over and over - headbutts pretty much everything except biting and eye gouging.
Hunt at the staredown looking at Silva staring at him like u know what ur getting urself Into
Damn! That was one hell of a fight. . I think it should be a tie..both guy were tough as a rock...
Roubo!!!
Hunt mereceu sim a Vitória
Vcs são fan boys...kkk
super samoan is not afraid of anyone.. he fought the baddest of the bad
Wand had balls the size of Tokyo.
11:04 for fight start
Wanderlei monstro 🇧🇷❤️
this is one of the greatest performance of Mark Hunt.. damn this fight is legendary in so many ways..
ps: tnk's a lot for the memories guys
Pride is another breed of fighters.
Mark hunt is one the most wonderful fighter I ever seen.
this mark hunt hit harder then ufc mark hunt . unbelieveble wand still take some nuclar bombs
Idk about that.
ufc hunt was way past his prime... and still won a lot of fights
Love seeing Silva get rocked by the legend here. Hunt was one of the best.
Vanderlei e como diz o hino brasileiro, verás que um filho teu não foge a luta, espetacular Vanderlei e VAI CORINTHIANS ZONA LESTE ITAQUERA É NÓIS.
PALMEIRASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
I was too ignorant back then to remember these fights. I must have watched this fight back then for sure, but I didn't know much about the fighters or their backgrounds which was a shame I guess. I'm glad to know more about them now at least. Mark Hunt's documentary is well worth watching, strongly recommended.
Até o Hunt não acreditou no resultado kkkk😊😊
I disagree with the commentators. I thought the number of times Mark knocked Silva down and at one stage could have ended him tells me the judges scored it right. Silva did well with the take downs, but there was not much in it because he didn't capitalize on it.
Yeah man. In a K1 fight a K/D = a 10-8 round
So Pride must have been the same because it was basically the K1 of MMA lol
I agree... takedowns without doing something with them aren't enough to win a fight... Mark knocked Wanderlei on his ass a couple of times... that's a win...
Agree
Pride is never die
Hunt is in my top 5 fav fighters of pride and ufc.
I like the cool way Hunt waited for the judges' decision while Silva was celebrating too early.
cause everybody knows that this was a ridiculous decision. Even Hunt didn't believe
@Ebk Rohan u sound like a dumb bitch
Wanderlei never should’ve taken this fight, he never fully recovered from the hits he took from Hunt.
SOCCER KICKS SHOULD BE ALLOWED IN THE UFC..LETS SEE WHAT KHABIB WILL DO..
Never felt MMA as exciting as during the Pride. They were just crazy shows and the Japanese audience and show just gave them the final "eastern mortal kombat festival" -feeling.
Wanderlei Silva looks like a neanderthal, not even as an insult but genuine looks like someone that doesnt belong in this time but 1000s of years ago.
let's be honest....
I wish all of you could understand portuguese and know how exciting is Wanderlei's team cheering for him
what did they say
The atomic butt drop! RC with the classic commentary!
CACHORRO LOKO, O MELHOR DE TODOS OS PRIDES EXQUECEEE
Such a fucking great fight.
Both legends.
Love the intro, nice work
Mark hunts interviews were always entertaining to watch 😂
Piss taker!...lol...doesn't take a serious game too seriously
Always loved watching big Mark Hunt! But Damm Wanderlie has some big Kahunas for taking this fight!!
Hunt vencio a wanderlei, sus golpes fueron contundentes y la manera de safarse de las llaves y domincación de wanderlei fueron increibles
All these years I've been a fan and I never saw this one. Or don't remember it unfortunately. Anyway, this one's in my top 5 all time fights!
Dois monstros do MMA, não existe mais lutadores desse nível 👏👏
Seu uc
Оба хорошие бойцы . Большое уважение .
Even with steriods, it's amazing how Silva fought a guy from another weight class!
Madman
Amazing how good hunts stamina is with his size and 3 days notice!
Sometimes getting old and forgetting things is good, you get to see it for the first time again hahaha
The judges saw Mark Hunt almost knocking out The axe murderer! But if this fight was in the UFC Silva would have won the decision! And I'm surprised to see Silva knew how to take down opponents.. I didn't know he had that in his arsenal.
Silva had a really well-rounded game back in Pride. Takedowns, good off his back, kicks, knees... once he got to the UFC nothing but haymakers.
@@maofas yeah I agree dude! What the hell happened to him at UFC? And when he fought Chael at Bellator he couldn't stop the take downs! 🤔
@@starscream4067 He already was too old for figth
what a fight! This wasn't boring for even 1 second.
Legendary fight. I used to not like Wanderlei much. He really earned my respect as a true warrior after seeing this fight. Mark Hunt is the fuckin man as well, I've always thought he was awesome. Watch his interviews, he keeps it real 💯 and humble always.
Watch with Crocop (first fight)... Silva won that too , and was robbed like here (there was a draw)... And watch fight with "Rampage" - first and second... I got that too , you can find it...

I miss Pride. My Japanese uncle would go to most of the events, and even got to watch Sakuraba beat two of the Gracies

Pride was like watching modern day gladiators humans vs lion type shhhh They said Yakuza had ownership so of course roids weren't an issue ...Glory days
Rutten and Ranallo commentating. Hunt vs Wanderlei. Pride FC. This is absolute peak MMA, it will never get better than this
Wandy scores take downs. Hunt scores knock downs.

Hunt wins this fight, never can believe the result
Man. I love Hunt, but Silva was the champ. To me, the champ must be definitively beaten to dethrone him. I don't even care for Silva, but i want to say he won.
they dont care about control or takedowns ,mostly damage
@@cristianalmon9073 So, they don't concern themselves with points? in another video, i did here a commentator say that "whoever is winning the fight at the end, wins."
@@atrocious_pr0xy they do have points but judge the fight more as a whole n they love action, they definitely dont like stalling .takedowns with no damage count for nothing here ...they do care about the end of the fight more than ufc
@@cristianalmon9073 i read through some rules.. them yellow cards they dish out for passivity are no joke. 10% taken from your purse each card. 3 yellows make a red card and count as a DQ. Bushido is unlimited yellow cards.
That's one of the reasons we've seen so many crazy fights in Pride. The judges care about "damage" too.
THIS is why Silva is one of the true GOATS, and PRIDE was superior to UFC. 1. Nobody in the UFC would fight a K1 champion, who's 75lbs heavier than them; and stand up with them with 4oz gloves. 2. PRIDE put on matches like this, and scored fights based on damage & effort to win; not points like in corrupt boxing, or who's better at laying on top without attempting submissions.
Big respect to Hunt!
Always better. Viewing without commentary.
