Is the Defender 110 PHEV the best of both worlds?

  • I have just spoken about EVs in my last video and what I really think about them. So perhaps it was time for a plug in hybrid because I find these to make way more sense. Barring the pricing, obviously. But if we were to be incentivised, I think PHEVs would be the way to go. And the Defender 110 PHEV is a winner! If pricey.

PHEV - added complexity, battery stealing space in the trunk, increased fuel consumption on long trips.

This car, to me, is a luxury land cruiser.
It's just not as reliable, though.
Another thing is honestly, i would think of getting a v8 defender before i think of buying this one

All hybrids are more ICE than EV, by a long shot! This is no exception! It has a lot of complexity with combining the EV and ICE motors, and then adding that to all four wheels.
That just does not make sense! the cost return is too high.
With an all electric EV, the SA tax requirement skews the "make sense" of the EV as well! Once the tax issues get's sorted, the EV's will become more sensible! Then, the SA electricity energy issue will come more into play, and that also buggers up the EV sensibility!
So, for now, many things in SA specific will have to change to favor EV's, and hybrids just do not make sense in general!
Buy a diesel, that , in my opinion, is just the best for now! Why VW and some manufacturers are dumping the diesels, does not make sense! It is just because of the "greany" freaks, and for these people I'm just fud-up, to say the least! We in SA should be burning the coal we have, for the immediate future, and for the long-term, nuclear power is the way to go. That will ensure our energy needs are met, and with a growing charging network, EV's can be the future! For now however, go diesel!!!

Maybe true, but the New World Order gagged 32 professors of climatology and went after a deluded, hysterical teen. And that's why no more V8's for many brands, and why EV technology is promoted. As electronics can be controlled digitally.....which is what they want.

Some PHEV's just have a small electric motor/generator (for recovery) integrated into a standard transmission. Its quite simple, actually. Other PHEV's just use the ICE as a generator and again this is quite simple. It either case, it is a lot more efficient use of the rare, more difficult to mine/refine materials than an EV by a long shot. From a natural resources perspective, EV's are extremely wasteful. Diesel's simply pollute too much even with DEF/regen systems installed, which also kill your MPG's during regens. With a PHEV, even if you never plug in, you still get substantially better MPG's than a comparable ICE vehicle in city driving while being roughly on par in long highway situations.
You can make an argument against everything and anything. But PHEV's are the least bad option to date for personal use vehicles. I have been driving one for nearly three years now. 70% of my miles are electric miles. So, this whole "all hybrids are more ICE than EV" idea is rubbish.

    • @pauldbeer
      @pauldbeer 26 днів тому

@free-qe6wx Not rabish! Your argument serves only to justify YOUR choice!
The argument against Diesels is simply agenda driven! The most efficient engine for cars is an EV, second to that a diesel engine! Energy in, work out on a physics level (math) is clear. EVs have a problem in storing energy to take with it while moving. Thus, the batteries are the problem.
To make my point of complexity and inefficiency off as rubish is worth noting that arguing with fools like you is a waste of time! Therefor you will not get another comment from me!

Toyotas are more reliable. We know the Land Rover is the best off roader and gives the best cabin enjoyment and luxury travels. The Land Rover if it wasn’t for its reliability issues would score high from me

😂 a 2 litre petrol and a battery for 2 million. You must have rocks in your head to buy that thing considering Land Rover’s reputation for reliability. That car deserves a 3.0 litre, 6 cylinder diesel. Better yet, for the same money get yourself a BMW X5 30d. Better comfort, better reliability, better resale, better technology, better dealer experience, better everything.
