The nice thing about utilizing contractors, other than the saving on buying all the equipment, is that fact that contractors can get the job done a lot more quickly because they don't have to stop to do the myriad of other jobs that need to be done on a dairy farm.

What kind of grass you guys forge just curious because in the state I live in we do fescue but we don't forget we Bailey it then running through a tub grinder usually with corn silage or high moisture corn love this video keep it up
Hamish Ross where abouts are you. Down here in Gloucestershire the weathers been really good but with not enough rain. We haven't much grass in the fields and we haven't made enough round bales yet

The waste ye usually have at the back of the pit shouldn't be a problem this year as the buckrake driver can compact right to the back of the new grass!

nice to see some of the little differences in how things are done in the UK and US since I've been watching your vids. You guys never seem to use trucks. I can only speak for how things are done on US dairys in the northeast, but even on a small dairy there will be a couple of older dump trucks for silage. A custom harvest crew like this would have trucks all over the place and even spares standing by. You scrape manure with a tractor and here that's done with a skidsteer. I also noticed you guys always drive tractors with your loaders all the way up when not in use which is the strangest thing to my eye, although I'm sure you have your reasons, and here we keep them as low to ground as possible. I hope this doesn't start a bunch of comments about who is better and which is the "right" way because it's much more pleasant to just watch and enjoy these differences and assume there are good reasons for them.
+agri master. Thank you for the explanation. We don't have any laws like that here and were always taught to keep it down for stability. When we first learned to drive as kids we would have got our butts kicked for having it up high while driving which is why I guess it looked strange to me. Why don't you guys use trucks? Here when a truck gets too old for long haul use or serious construction usage you can buy them dirt cheap, and throw a farm plate on them for almost nothing and get many years of inexpensive farm use out of them. I remember hauling silage when I was a kid in an old GMC dump truck with a 2 stroke Detroit. Fun times. Again thanks for sharing.

R MacK yep your right, there is no way i could do all this in a day myself
Well contractors speed on country roads coz I get nichlesons to do my silage and they only are down the road and they speed
sure we run 70 dairy cows and 50 sucklers and we bail all our own silage and draw it in but you have to get up early

i guess as the results the same it doesn't matter how we do it!
we have to put the loader up when we are on the road as thats the law but it is much nicer to drive when the loader is down
