    Great to see how far silage making has moved on. When I was on the farm we had a trailed chopper which hooked up the trailers. Took weeks to get the grass in.

    It is always fun to watch the grass being processed and put in the clamp. Impressive machinery. 😁👍👍

    That is some impressive kit. Bit different to the way we used to do it. Old double chop forage harvester. With the trailer hooked on the back. Drop the full trailers in the field and pick them up with another tractor. All old Fords. Just a muck fork on the front loader of a ford 5000. Running dual wheels to roll the silage. This set up is space age in comparison.

    Silage time is always exciting both mowing and putting into the clamp. Very good amount of grass that you have and hopefully will make great feed.

    Brilliant video
    Back in the 80s i worked for Avon Contractors, The Collins bros.
    I At silage time had a Ford 7710 on a N.H 719 forager..
    I ALWAYS insisted on the haybob driver doing the headland LAST.. up n down land work first h/l last.. makes perfect sense, Don't understand why its not down now.
    Easier on the grass too..

    Great video. The sheer weight of that shovel will really consolidate the clamp and make for good silage

    That big loading shovel fine on a outdoor clamp but not sure how much grass he will get in your shed before he's up against the roof........we had a shed like yours to put silage in and i yous to go up on top the silage with one of our smaller tractors to roll it down and the contractor would just keep pushing the grass up with a front mounted buckrake.......they don't seem to have push off buckrakes now

    That's pretty wet ground the tyres on the Windrower looks as though they have been painted with a high gloss paint, when the Rake\Windrower turned the lifted circular rakes made it look like a Tetradactyl (prehistoric bird) running along ready to take off🤣

    HARRY if your reading this 🤫 looks like it's working..... your dad is really starting to like blue tractors now 😊😅... jokes aside impressive stuff.. not much use around our farm acres but still fairly speeds up the process.. thank you for sharing it with us, Richard. Stay safe 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    Was talking to a chap there a few weeks back raking silage and he was telling me that hes running a 95hp tractor on the rake this year as he reckons its saving him over a grand in fuel costs for the season.. Everybody is using overpowered tractors on rakes.. Its costing them a fortune, they must be making enough to not care about it..

    • @kieranosullivan02
      @kieranosullivan02 Рік тому

      95hp will do it fine, probably an older tractor too? not sure why everyone seems to upgrade the whole time then forget about those smaller tractors completely

    • @gregshearer423
      @gregshearer423 Рік тому

      All well and good having that 100hp on a 2 rotor rake but if your running a 4 rotor and on hills you need more power plus the 150-200hp can be working all year round where as that 100hp tractor might only be used for odd jobs here and there big ones always going to be more versatile

    You would get a much cleaner cut with a multi-disc mower and you would go faster even in a heavy crop.

      Not really, and you have to take in account how smooth the damn field is. I’ve got customers who ask me to cut their hay and to be honest l want to say no because it’s so bloody rough in there, next one is like a snooker table🙂

    Hi, I'd like to know HOW your going to get that 2 Year Old silage eaten before in becomes rotten old 4 year old crap, big crop this year will mean even more left next year, more than likely. Make sure it get's eaten or its taking space where good stuff could be Richard.

    • @thefunkyfarmer

      yeh we've always had someone fo it for us. First silage cut was 1980 when i think we did the buck raking ourselves with the 135. unbelievable now
