This is not a competition, it is a prestigious television program "Classical Wings" in which respected and famous artists are invited to participate. Everyone has to choose a old Chinese poem and present it in a musical form. Dimash chose a poem over 1,400 years old and made a royal music setting for a beautiful text.
With millions of votes from viewers, Dimash won the program's gold medal, leaving other artists far behind.

This has always been a favourite of mine. It is haunting while beautiful. I didn't know he received a gold medal. They did pick an amazing artist to try to reach the young and foster an interest in the older poems and poets.

👉This was a Chinese TV show 'classic wings' in which young people are unconventionally taught the classics of history. It is an honour to be able to participate in this event as an artist. Dimash chose the poem of a high official from the Tang Dynasty (7th or 8th century) a work by Zhang Jiuling, who dedicated this poem to his friend. It's about two people, though thousands of miles apart, friendship lives in each other's hearts. The song contains Kazakh (dombra), Chinese (vocals, music style) and Western musical influences (orchestra) and is masterfully interpreted by the best singer in the world. 🌼🇩🇪

I love this song so much, it is really touching my heart, every time! I can feel the pain, longing and love and happiness in Dimash's voice at the same time, emotions that are always combined with love and friendship while being apart or saying goodbye... The tenderness of Dimash's singing is killing me, he is very different here, again a very new side of Dimash. Just love it! There is really not much more to say than: soo beautiful... Dimash said he would sing a song by the Chinese poet Chang Julin (678-740 AD), who lived during the Tang Dynasty. So the age of the poems is about 1300 years! The song says the two friends are splitting up, but their friendship, despite a distance of 1,000 miles, will remain strong. Who is the author of the music, I do not know. Maybe the music is ancient too? Dimash has a lot of voices and techniques. Imi Dimash uses with great skill. Not a competition Dimash vowed never to compete again. Its more a cultural TV programme where ancient texts are set to modern music. He spoke in Chinese on TV for the first and only time so far. This was recorded in Feb 2019 but not shown until June or July during quarantine. I love this beautiful song but he mist likely won't sing it again as it was specific to this show 💖

I really appreciate the work of every artist and I wish there were more tracks like this legally available for purchase on iTunes. UA-cam is great for discovering new artists, but it's not great for really enjoying music 😭, because of the sound quality, screaming fans, etc.
