The SUV Lexus Should Have Built | 2021 Genesis GV80

  • With the new Genesis GV80, the brand's first SUV/CUV, its clear they have an eye on both BMW and Lexus, a challenge not to be undertaken lightly. The RX is the best selling Lexus after-all. However despite finally adding a 3-row variant to the lineup, RX sales have been on a decline over the last 4 years and it's not exactly the sportiest entry in the segment. Genesis is targeting the major players in a big way with tons of standard equipment, high predicted reliability, a long warranty, an optional twin-turbo V6 and unlike the RX, a "sort-of" usable third row. Game on Genesis. Game on.

      Elle Richmond I agree but look at the people that buy the QX50. Boujie upper class women who work in an office or soccer moms or family man. Nobody I’ve seen in that vehicle looks like they care about “performance or horsepower” They don’t care obviously or they wouldn’t be driving it. I hear they have big things planned with the new QX60. If I was in charge of Infiniti’s comeback, I would refresh the Q50 and QX60. Those are the more we’ll known out of the lineup. All in all, a new design language and a better interior. I don’t mind a dual screen infotainment system, but when you look at Land Rovers dual screen setup it makes Infiniti’s look cheap and poorly integrated.

      @@RobG001
      Hardly. Yes it is practical and legal to buy diesel fuel in bulk [I have 10,000 litres divided into four tanks] and I usually buy around 5000 litres at a time. The best saving I have ever made was 10ppl on the day. The only possible way your brother would have worked out a 30p saving is if he deducted the VAT from bulk but used the pump price including VAT for the garage price.
      If the price rises during the course of using his bulk supply, he will save more. However, it is almost as likely that the price could fall, so he will have overpaid compared to the pump price over time. He will also have paid for the storage tanks and dispensing pipes and suffer the risk of fuel being stolen.
      Petrol used to be held in private bunkers as well, but this needs to be stored underground in the UK and there are far more stringent regulations. Diesel only needs to be held in a bunded tank to prevent accidental leaks into the general environment.

    Genesis brought a sledgehammer to the glass factory. Sheesh!!! The styling is certainly homogeneous and very fresh. I do love that Genesis took a chance on being borderline polarizing but also very modern. The interior is PRIMO. The package all ties together for an offering that suggests a price higher than it is. In an ironic twist, as Kia is experiencing with the Telluride, I believe Genesis won't be able to keep the GV80 on their car lots.
    @Alex- I'm not so sure about the RX correlation. It may be a bit shorter, but that could be because of the short overhangs, f/r. I would suggest more of a Volvo XC90/Audi Q7 competition.

      Melo - Toyota’s and by default Lexus are THE most reliable vehicles in the world. Do some homework before you speak. And warranties are great, when they break. They are great at attracting customers wary of a brand. But dude, a warranty has nothing to do with reliability.

    • @melo2048
      @melo2048 3 роки тому +4

      @@Erin-Thor If you are willing to pay for an outdated vehicle because you are brain washed into believing that they are the most reliable vehicles in the world that's on you. The Germans are the biggest luxury brands in the world and there the most unreliable vehicles ever. But people buy them because they don't care. I did do homework if you look up Genesis and Hyundai you'll see that they're reliability for the past few years through JD power and consumer reports has been on top. I think what Genesis is doing is kicking Acura and Lexus right in the nuts and the only excuse that these owners are making is that their vehicles are more reliable apparently, considering Genesis only been out for 3 years it's still hard to figure that out. And warranty does reflect reliability. You think Hyundai and Genesis would have America's best warranty if their vehicles were unreliable. That would cost them more money if their vehicles were junk. If Toyotas are the most reliable vehicles and they have no problems Toyota should have no issue giving them an extremely large warranty because customers will not have to use it.

      They've got a lot going for them. The Gv70 is on the way due this year. An electric g80 dubbed eG80 is due next year, as well as an eGV70. A 420hp g80 3.5T sport has also been spied. The g90 will see a full redesign next year as well and has also been spied. Not to mention a standalone electric suv with a coupelike roofline dubbed eGV60 is due next year with a sub 3 second 0-60 time. A production version of the essentia concept has been pushed back to late 2021 maybe early 2022.

    When you do your full review this Fall, please compare it to the Telluride/Palisade. Is it worth the extra money?? How much cargo capacity do you give up from the Telluride? Thanks.

      Pretty sure the new MDX will rock. Hopefully they can keep the price lower which will appeal to more buyers.
