Excellent! Best explained treatise on pencil grades I've heard. Keep up the good work. Much appreciated!
I’ve never seen a #1 pencil, Im sixty five years old.
I've found that a 2B pencil is also good for writing. I like that it is a bit darker than an HB and that it writes more smoothly. Since I write with mechanical pencils, I don't have to worry about sharpening it.
Feeling pretty smug with my mechanical pencil.
Sketch artist's dilemma: 2B or not 2B...that is the question...
Thank you! It is very confusing and I figured it out as you showed a scale where a higher number is harder and another scale where a higher number is softer. The area in between is where even more confusion lies. A #2 is HB and HB is a grade by itself, but there is a 2 in each direction beyond that which is super confusing, but you did a nice job of showing the grades and the what to expect.
I love this channel.
Never seen a pencil with numbers on just the H B rating from 4H to 4B!!!
Informative ! 😊
Nice video. Thanks.
F stands for what?
The F is a bit of an in-between pencil. It stands for "Fine Point," which means it’s good at holding a sharp tip, making it great for detailed writing or drawing. It sits between an HB and an H pencil in terms of hardness-not too hard, but not too soft either. So, it makes darker marks than a really hard pencil but stays sharp longer than softer ones. You don’t see the F pencil as often, but it's perfect if you want a sharp point without having to sharpen it constantly! :)
Cool stuff as always. Thanks. Oh... 1st lol
I had a 2.5 pencil before
👍👍
There's also No.3 pencils.
In the U. S. Scale there are the following grades (from lightest to darkest): 4, 3, 2.5, 2, and 1. A grade of #2 is the equivalent of HB on the European Scale.
#2 smell bad
#1 runs, smells bad.
Answer: one digit. 😂

#2 is crap
