  • In this video we cover some basic blocks that are extremely useful and effective against an upward thrust and seeing machine knife attack.
    Notes:
    1. Remember to break your training into two categories. Skills drills and practical application/scenario based training.
Skills Drills: This is where you practice a specific skill or move/s. Skills Drills are choreographed so you as a student can learn to master the move through high volume of reps.
Scenario Based Training: This is where you get to see where you really lack. It’s one thing to practice skill sets but when you’re dealing with an unpredictable attacker, it really puts you to the test. In truth, until you apply your skills drills in scenario based training, you really don’t have much to go from. I’m fact, being good at skills and never training scenario based training, will produce a false sense of capabilities which will more than likely lead to severe injury or death.
Both must be trained. Master the Skills in choreographed drills, and then apply them in Scenario Based Training.
    Disclaimer:
Being a good training partner requires training. If you lack self control someone will be injured or worse. In addition, never use a real knife or pointed tip regardless of your skillset. People have died from doing this type of training.

Excellent stuff. I have stayed away from knife fighting self defense videos because of all of the nonsense out there. I have boxed, wrestled and done mma. What you showed here follows basic principles that we usually train by. Simple, fast, realistic and practical. And yes be a good sparring partner to learn. You will address other things later as you become better. Excellent video.

Thank you for this video. As a knife enthusiast who has watched probably over 100 videos on knife defense & attacks, yours are easily the most realistic & educational. I think I've spent over an hour going back & forth through this video tonight. The best part....???? My wife sat right next to me watching this as well as we talked about it & broke it down & practiced a little bit. (My wife, Michelle is into knives too. She said I got her addicted to knives😂). Anyways, a great video as usual. I've learned more from you than any 10 people combined. Thank you, Mr. Pike.

Great video and explanations. I guess never underestimate biting. An attacker might have fancy moves, but after you took a big chunk of his ear he will hurt.

Excellent techniques because they're demonstrating practical and effective technical methods which can used quickly especially when attacked suddenly and unexpectedly!!!
Was wondering if initially seizing the knife attacker's knife 🔪 weilding wrist with two hands would also be a viable knife self defense technique because the greater leverage would effect the knife weilding hand to be effectively immobilized?

Interesting. Looks like a good and useful technique based on my Hapkido experience with knife defense. I don't see how a newbie will be able to get it without a good instructor or the "right" knowledge/background. In my experience a slight adjustment measured in one or two inches sometimes makes a difference between success or failure

Great video brother. Combatives rather than competition. A good friend of mine has always said "Combatives is not a dance. Its not something you do with somebody. It something you do to somebody." People need to learn utilize all their God given weapons. Biting a chunk out of someone's face then spiting it back at them has a psychological effect that can take away their mental balance.
Love the knives from T.kell. It has become my favorite for edc. People need to get them know. The secret is out. It won't be long, and the price will go up.

My brother was in the Army , different animal I know. But he said they were taught to be ready to take a strike from the unarmed hand . Because some people will do that to redirect you from the knife hand in order to stab, making you soon and or attempting to disorientate you 🍺

Empty hands against an edge is a bad bad idea.
99.9% of this type of technique is simply garbage.
No disrespect but these techniques do not work against any legitimate edge attack.

@@davidbrytus2089truth is this commenter is right. I was in prison for 6 years and have probably been present for way more stabbings than this guy, with all due respect. This angle of attack is not the most common. It’s more of a right hook to the body kind of thing 90% of the time, not a straight stab or an uppercut as is shown in the video. The original commenter is correct in asserting that the best defense is to avoid the stab. I’ve seen dudes get chased around with shanks for a few minutes and live because they avoided and tired their opponent out instead of trying to grapple them in any way. Jabs help too if you’re a longer armed or tall guy. Sometimes that option is not available, but in most cases, this rule rings true: if unarmed, and the assailant has a gun at close range, rush them. If they have a knife, run away to tire them out. Train your cardio. It could save your life. And go to a boxing gym. It will teach you how to manage distance. Good luck out there.
