And here I am I 2022. Great video! Today I managed to track down a completely new, boxed and unused version of this gorgeous Hori/Vewlix stick. I've been drooling over images and reviews of it for at least a couple of years. And damn, I just had to buy it. The price? Including shipping and import tax to Europe - $770 (USD). Yikes!! Can't wait for it to arrive. Guess it is the closest I will ever come to owning an actual Vewlix DB cabinet.
To answer your question about the start button placement on the vewlix cabinet itself, it depends on the cabinet. They aren't all the same. Generally on single player cabs the start button is in the same spot as on the hori vlx but with a little more space between the main buttons and the start buttons. It might feel like more space because many of the Vewlix panels are 7 buttons with the last one removed and plugged up. You can simulate this on the VLX by removing and plugging up the last two buttons thereby increasing the distance between main buttons and start button. On two player cabs for player one the start button is pretty much exactly where it is on the Hori VLX but with the 2nd player start button immediately to the right of it. This means for the 2nd player the start button is actually to the left of his joystick lever. Again there are all sorts of other variations Ive seen but these two variations are in the majority.
The Start button is really there on the original Viewlix cabinet, as can be seen on many pictures on floating around on the internet, it is just that it doesn't matter that much, as Pause is often disabled in most arcade machines and nothing happens if were to hit it mid fight.
I feel like "price" shouldn't come in to recommending something. Typically you're recommending something due to it quality or its practical usage. You can say its pricey but that shouldn't stop you from recommending it to people, just because its pricey doesnt mean it doesnt feel good or the parts that went in to making it or some how invalid. It's a pristine arcade stick with a high price tag, understandably so, you're paying for a replica/to get a feeling like no other without having to own a arcade machine. It would make much more sense for you to say that you recommend it because of how actually good it is, because it is, but add if you can afford it, it's worth it.
2:28 It's not an exact replica but in terms of function it feels the same as the real cabinet. The real panel is about 35% larger. They both share a similar construction but when opened up aren't exactly the same.
canceled my mad catz pre order and got one of these on launch day. weighs and ton. looks and functions amazing. touch pad is useful in training mode. wasn't sure about start button placement but I haven't hit it on accident yet and is convenient when needed
Got it! I have the very first TE for Xbox 360, The TE2+. If You love Arcade sticks you must have a VLX Premium for home gaming. I have other sticks : Dreamcast Arcade stick , Mortal Kombat stick (great quality but ...American vision of The Arcade ^^)
I doubt this particular version will retain the value we all thought it would. They are making a lot of these and are still available from most retailers that sell them.
In France we have it on late (2016). For 250 euros. But no it s Between 260/300 euros (Amazon.fr : 299 euros). but if course The VLX Kuro is for occident. No just japan and america.

I bought the Hori RAP5 in Tokyo while I was there a month ago. I wanted to buy the Mad Catz tournament pro 2, but here in Germany it costs like 220€, and the Hori RAP5 was about 14000¥ which is about 100€. And I'm happy with it.

Nightblade I don't understand why the start button placement is a big deal. I've got a Qanba Q4 and the start button is even closer on those, and I have never once hit it on accident. I feel like you'd have to be really mashing wildly to ever hit it on accident. I mean, I pretty much just play SF4 and dabble in anime games, I don't play marvel or anything where you mash a ton, but even then, you still have to move your hands away from the buttons. I've actually seen and heard of more accidental pauses from bumping the start button on the back of the TE sticks than I ever have from hitting a top mounted start button. Also, buttons are pretty cheap, so big deal.
I have the Mini Fighting Stick 4 by HORI (my first one), Mayflash Arcade Fightstick F300 (more comfortable than HORI Mini Fighting Stick but loose joystick) and my favourite one is Real Arcade Pro 4 Kai for PS3/PS4/PC as well as Real Arcade Pro V Hayabusa for Nintendo Switch, I also have a Fighting Commander (which always looks like a Sega Saturn controller lol) from HORI as well. I am not going to get this big thing any tine soon.

i got a RAPv4, it got a function to disable "start" buttion and some other button except the 8 buttion(it called F-mode) but srsly, unless u are trying to crack the stick , u are not touching "start" when u are playing anyway

What do fighters use the last two buttons for? I never use them, and my fingers accidentally press them instead of the hard punch/kick buttons. I recently put plugs in them.

Whos hand accidentally presses the start button? If your hand is moving around that much i doubt your winning the match 😂. They put the button there because they expect people to keeps there fingers on the first 4 buttons your not playing on an ice skating ring lmao anyone who (accidentally) pressed that button straight up cheated.
Funny thing is there is a f-mode/tournament mode switch that you flick and it locks the Start button, so even if you did accidentally touch it nothing happens
that is clearly a PS4 arcade stick the options buttons SCREAMS it. and yes it will work on PS3 and PC since mac and windows supports PS4 controllers not to mention PS3 also supports PS4 controllers

im curious on the top is that a plexi and once u opened it i see a few screws up top. Once you remove the screws is that artwork just a thin sheet or it a decal that you have to peel off. if so I would get one in a few months and do my own custom artwork. I already have the Kai and Art's shop has a plexi for the kai but not the vlx. So Im hoping its just a thin sheet and the top is some sort of plastic or plexi.
Question, do you like how your white fight stick you have feels for your right hand with your hand resting on top of the panel more than the Hori with the slanted edge for your palm to rest on? I'm stumped. I don't know which kind I want.

So I bought my first fightstick a few weeks ago (razer atrox for the xbone) and to use it on pc I had to open it up and swap the wires for the LB and RT buttons so I could use the first 6 buttons. Does anybody else have that problem?

I have a hori RAP4 , i love it , liked the buttons (but i think i preffer the sanwa buttons), i preffer the hayabusa stick over the sanwa but i never had access to seimitsu hardware (live in brazil). Anyway, love your vids and tutorials, keep up the good work!
For me I think the Ayabusa stick from Hori is between the jlf Sanwa and The ls32 from Seimitsu. I have the very first TE (The best), The TE2+, the TES with Seimitsu parts, for the fun the Mortal Kombat fightstick, and the Dreamcast One.

Why won't Hori just make a fighting edge for the PS4 and be done with it :'(. I would pay $300 for a white one right now without hesitation. Veiwlix style sticks are not comfortable to me with the slant\cutoff under the wrist, I prefere more surface area under my wrist. Heck I would even take retro RAP3SA style stick for PS4. Great video though..

Never really understood the VLX. it's a big and sturdy version of the regular Horis, right? I really don't like the regular ones so paying this much for a bigger version just doesn't make sense imo:P
Haha, I like that you spent 350 on this and then mention tons of stuff you don't really like about it: too glossy, really heavy, start button location, share button, hori buttons instead of sanwa, crappy cord compartment, no microphone port. Nice vid though!
Hmmm, I only know on my own q4 arcade stick. DP will start/stop right when you trigger/release those buttons in the stick. LS will start right when you trigger the button, but for some reason when you release the input doesn't end for maybe a quarter of a second. Might be simulating a left stick on a normal controller slowly returning to center but I'm not certain. And this is only from what I know messing around with my q4.
gotta disagree about the joystick. i use the real arcade pro 4 and i dont like the stick at all. switched it for a sanwa JLF, feels much better for me personally. not a fan of the hayabusa parts at all actually
+Leo DS The Kai is for peasants, jk. I actually have a VLX Hayabusa and 2 Kai ( but those are for guest). The Vlx is setup on a mini Vewlix diy stand and my to go stick is a quadmodded Hori SCV stick, which I prefer using over the Kai any day.
Yeah check out reckless Yuki's channel and he has a vid titled mid your fightstick hori hayabusa, in that vid he shows you how to change the hate on a hori hayabusa stick wich is in this hori vlx I did it to mine just to have option to swap out gates when I play shotos and but square back in when I play charge, I also change the spring and actuator easy mod, hope this helps

Yep, start button is there on the cabinets, but the 3 punch/kick buttons are removed.
All Vewlix cabinets come with a 7 button layout. What's L2 button on this one isn't on Vewlix cabs.

For me I think the Ayabusa stick from Hori is between the jlf Sanwa and The ls32 from Seimitsu. I have the very first TE (The best), The TE2+, the TES with Seimitsu parts, for the fun the Mortal Kombat fightstick, and the Dreamcast One.

I really like the vlx stick (now,I have madcatz te and hori v3 kay ps3 with fews supergun arcade stuff,like Combo A.V).
But,soon,I will take a ps4 second hand and a vlx stick to play ps3/ps4 and Hyperspin...Mame...on PC/raspberry/android.

Why won't Hori just make a fighting edge for the PS4 and be done with it :'(. I would pay $300 for a white one right now without hesitation. Veiwlix style sticks are not comfortable to me with the slant\cutoff under the wrist, I prefere more surface area under my wrist. Heck I would even take retro RAP3SA style stick for PS4. Great video though..

Never really understood the VLX. it's a big and sturdy version of the regular Horis, right? I really don't like the regular ones so paying this much for a bigger version just doesn't make sense imo:P

Haha, I like that you spent 350 on this and then mention tons of stuff you don't really like about it: too glossy, really heavy, start button location, share button, hori buttons instead of sanwa, crappy cord compartment, no microphone port. Nice vid though!

Hmmm, I only know on my own q4 arcade stick.
DP will start/stop right when you trigger/release those buttons in the stick.
LS will start right when you trigger the button, but for some reason when you release the input doesn't end for maybe a quarter of a second.
Might be simulating a left stick on a normal controller slowly returning to center but I'm not certain. And this is only from what I know messing around with my q4.

gotta disagree about the joystick. i use the real arcade pro 4 and i dont like the stick at all. switched it for a sanwa JLF, feels much better for me personally. not a fan of the hayabusa parts at all actually

+Leo DS The Kai is for peasants, jk. I actually have a VLX Hayabusa and 2 Kai ( but those are for guest). The Vlx is setup on a mini Vewlix diy stand and my to go stick is a quadmodded Hori SCV stick, which I prefer using over the Kai any day.
Can you put an 8 way gate in the Hayabusa joystick?

Yeah check out reckless Yuki's channel and he has a vid titled mid your fightstick hori hayabusa, in that vid he shows you how to change the hate on a hori hayabusa stick wich is in this hori vlx I did it to mine just to have option to swap out gates when I play shotos and but square back in when I play charge, I also change the spring and actuator easy mod, hope this helps
