- This is a Cool-Breeze branded 16" 3-speed oscillating desk/table fan type EB24616. There was one of these units in my 4th grade classroom. I remember it vividly.
I've been looking to find one for over a decade now and never had any success until very recently. I had never seen another out in the wild since the 4th grade, in fact I've never been able to find even a picture or video of the exact model. I could find 12" ones, but I knew it was a 16". A few months ago, The Letter H, or the @Xyspade , found this one at a sale he attended.
I remember the unit in the classroom had very stiff bearings. It was not unusual for it to run very slowly for several minutes when first started in the morning before getting up to proper operation. This one sure is noisy, but the bearings seem perfectly free.
I used to think these were probably a product of the very early 2000s, perhaps late 90s at oldest. After closer inspection, I tend to think it may be older now due to the non-polarized plug.
I am unsure of the OEM of these units. The base style is rather distinct and can be seen on several other cheaper brands of fans, including Aires.
It feels like most fan collectors have experienced a cool breeze fan in their childhood. I'm still looking for that 12" one that you have.
For those that grew up in the 90s and 2000s, that is quite likely. I'm hoping to get to that other one as well as the larger Holmes twin window fan from a few years back, I know you've been wanting to see both.
Dude, my stepdad and I had the 12” model of this same fan. I don’t know what the model of this 16” one is, but mine was the model HF-30ST from circa 2000-2002. There’s even videos of it on my channel dating back 9-10 years ago from 2014 and 2015.
Like how you stated that the bearings tend to lock up too easily, that was exactly what happened to ours. I believe it was maybe 2-3 years ago in 2021 or 2022 when the bearings finally locked up solid, I could even split the motor open to oil and service it. I mean, the motor still had power going to it but it was totally seized. As a result, we ended up parting it out and I threw out the motor/base assemblies while saving the blades and grilles. Other than that, I want to say it lasted approximately 20 years before we parted it out. I mean, these were better fans than everything made years after, but at the same time, nowhere near as good as the Lasko products or anything more superior. I will give these some credit though for how they still last a number of years if you take care of them from time to time.
I'm sure if you took the back cover off the motor, you would see a date code and other information. I have a 16-inch oscillating table fan, which I believe is more like an 18-inch homeline model. When I was recently servicing it, I found the date code on the motor toward the front. I think it's somewhere around 1951, so it's quite old. It's still working amazingly well for its age, which definitely shows that the old stuff that wasn't made in China was built to last.
Not necessarily, much of this stuff is just as generic inside as it is outside.
What’s also interesting about this 16” Cool Breeze is that it’s fairly similar to the 16” Honeywell/Duracraft fan variants. This looks exactly similar to the 16” Duracraft table and pedestal models DT-16 and DS-1600, with the DT-16 table model being the least common and the most rare to find compared to the DS-1600. These might even be from the same OEM as the Honeywell’s with the same style blade, grilles, and blade shaft notch but they never tell us which OEM.
Definitely a good vintage fan for bring only 20 years old bro the bearings are in good shape the spin down time is super long and I like the startup sound on high speed can’t wait to see you do a service video on it soon I enjoyed the video

Ah now i know who made these because we got badgeless and brand-name less too in Canada sold at Maxi and Cie Maxi and Loblaws in Quebec back in 99 i think with the same triangle near the speed buttons

This came from a flea market that's 2 hours away, I only get to it once a year usually. It is the biggest one I've ever been to.
I had gone through 75% of it and found nothing. Just as I thought it would be a bust, I came across a booth with an acre full of junk that borderline looked like a landfill. It was so overwhelming I had to walk through three times to make sure I didn't miss anything. There were at least a dozen fans, all good and some rare ones, but many that we either had or were too far beyond repairing.
On the third walkthrough, I saw this and an SMC TH-12 together under a table. The cord on this was sprawled out across the gravel and people were walking over it. I would've taken a picture but I didn't want to risk getting kicked out because I was not leaving without those fans.
I brought them to the front to where there were two old guys running the thing. I asked how much, the first guy says $10 each. Outrageous. I asked $10 for the two which was still outrageous, and the guy gave me an attitude and says I had to check with the other guy who was talking to someone else. I waited for the other guy, and when he was done, without me asking, he told me $5 each. Perfect. (Oh yeah, and the first guy overheard that and scolded him for giving me a discount LOL.)
I need to know who made these things as much as you need to know how to fix a warped plastic blade. These and the Duracrafts were the first fans I ever saw and are fully responsible for getting me started. It was tough giving this and the gray one away. Maybe you know someone with a blue Lakewood or black Hampton Bay HV for trade.
That explains why the cord is in so many bad conditions. I think $5 is reasonable for oscillating fans in unknown/dirty conditions.
I figured this would be something you liked as well, but I very much appreciate you giving it to me. It was great to see it again, nearly 2 decades later. I will get you a Lakewood HV that matches the smaller one in return.
the design of these fans seems to be so common among late 80s/early 2000s. There seem to be a lot of 16 inch fans with that exact same base from all over the place. I remember the earlier ones from the early 90s/late 80s had 65w motors.
Whatever the OEM was for these sold the units to quite a few different brand names.
My grandad has an 16" stand fan from cool breeze from 1988. I found it at yard sale for him a couple of years ago and except for being high hour the bearings are like in new shape. I did service it before I gave it to so hopefully it last and is way better then modern lasko he had. Calling the lasko a fan was to kind of word in my opinion as it moved no air and was very loud.
