My opinion is the PGA did this to themselves. They had to have all the control over the players. LIV let the players compete and do their own thing and they actually made professional athlete money. The PGA saw players leaving and had to do something. People spout blood money and this and that but who folded?
The only reason the PGA folded was $. They simply did not have the resources to continue to battle the almost unlimited resources of the PIF in court. Continuing to fight likely would have doomed the PGA.

Brandel wasn’t wrong. I applaud him for speaking the truth about the PIF and the Saudis. There was a time (not long ago) when morality and virtue actually meant something. Unfortunately that no longer is the case and now the PGA Tour is going to bed with the devil.
I would say limit it. Perhaps the music needs to be better thought out too. Some events seemed pretty heavy on the house music. I think they need to turn it down a few decibels.

I've been to 3 LIV events this year, if there are only PGA Tour events next year in the USA I'll be staying home. PGA Tour events are like going to a retirement home to watch croquet.

If we had a series that added a little tension and separation between the leagues I think that adds something for the players and the viewers. I like the idea of LIV having its own Non-US tourneys (Would love to see Adam Scott play with the other LIV Aussies). I had a different vision of how the leagues would settle, but I like this. I thought we'd have a hierarchy with LIV being the TOP money tour, but not conflicting with the PGA; Ala UEFA. PGA players could graduate to the LIV tour and some LIV players could be relegated and get guaranteed spots for a period of time in the PGA. I agree with you- I watched both and I thought the shakeup and diversity was great for golf. Now we all know it is. It was frustrating knowing that the world golf rankings weren't legit, and the pga, in my opinion was messing up and ruining golf. I think it was obvious to everyone once the LIV players showed up for the tourneys they were able to play in in the pga. Currently watching DP Worlds and you got two LIV players (out of only 3 in the field) in the top 5 in this tourney. They consistently play well on the Asian tour. Glad to see things are coming together. Golf is about to be SUPER awesome!!! Excellent job at breaking it down!

Next, I'm a long time PGA follower but I don't agree that the guys who whined and bitched about the "blood money" (Horschel, Rory, tigger, Justin, etc, etc.) shouldn't get one red cent. At face value, this looks like a cash bail out for the PGA Tour, I could be wrong. This just looks like the rich on the PGA Tour getter richer. We'll see when the actual deal comes out if I'm wrong.

The PGA Tour took a turn in 2017 when Jay took over. He never had the big picture in mind. That’s not good or bad, just his focus was stay the course and make more money for the organization, not the players. He was woefully old school and totally failed to see other avenues, especially social media and golf’s changing televised games. Modern tv commentators ought to listen to wide world of sports commentators. Instead of watching the game, they are commenting on what stats their screens are giving them. It is one of the reason that many golfers prefer LIV, collegiate golf and the LPGA. Those announcers are in the game they’re watching. I’m glad this will get resolved. I don’t care what happens other than they make tournaments fun to watch again. Less opinions is a start. I care nothing for “their” opinions.
I have long hoped that the Euros and internationals would start their own Ryder Cup type event against each other. I think it would add a lot to the game and also provide some relief for the US players by giving them a year off which the US players could really use. Having to play a really long PGA schedule, then the PGA playoffs (plus all the majors) the top US players then have to go directly into either a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup EVERY year without a break while the Euros and internationals currently only play in the big cup events every other year. It really is a big disadvantage for the US players.

Yeah they are self-employed contractors as long as they do exactly what the PGAT tells them to do. Like you can only play in tournaments that the PGAT gives you permission to play in. I'm in the engineering business and people who are self-employed contractors can go work for whoever they want without any repercussions. PGAT has always been a monopoly and they are trying like hell not to lose it.

The majors have a real dilemma on their hands. I know that they want the best fields but I don't think they want 6 additional events with fields that are equal or stronger then theirs.
Another example of why the PGA Championship needs to go international. Perhaps an annual rota of selected continents. That way, the PGA won't have to remain the weakest link in the group of majors.
Apparently the only thing holding this deal up is who is eligible to play in The Goofy League "TGL". Tiger won't agree to deal unless his League receives a Elevated Status Tournament. Rumor has it, Jay thinks this is a great idea.
Golf is hurting now that Tigermania has slowed. There are a lot of courses and resorts that are not being maintained like they once were. The global economy is partly to blame as well.
Let’s be honest…Tiger is getting $500 million, Rory is getting $400 million and the rest of the golfers that turned down LIV are gonna fight over the rest of the $100 million.
Matt, Growing the number of golfers worldwide is the name of the game. I live on a golf course. I am seeing an increase in the numbers of golfers. More high school players and more college age golfers. Any thing that increases those numbers is great. I am seeing more loud music in golf carts and I think it's great. For sure the influence of LIV
PGA need not pretend they are squeaky clean, 50-60 years ago they weren't allowing blacks to play. LIV is just doing what Google did to Apple, they're being forced to grow, advance, innovate the game, this is a great thing.

FYI everyone talks about PIF blood money but The Aramco Team Series presented by PIF is a series of five Ladies European Tour (LET) events that are sanctioned by the LET and organized by Golf Saudi. Seems that's ok. For me the PGA tour has become boring they need to get some fun back into the game. Like PGA/LPGA team events, Skins game, PGA/LPGA celebrity events.
I've been a fan of the PGA Tour for over 40 years. I didn't care for LIV, but I'm all for more playing opportunities for players. The biggest caveat I feel is the fact that pro golf is top heavy. It is what it is. The part the PGA Tour and LIV need to realize is the modern golf fan isn't really tuning into them. The modern fan is watching more UA-cam golf influencers. These are players that either tried pro golf and didn't make it or are just fans of golf and make videos. Either way, the point is there isn't nearly enough investment into the developmental tours. As in the now defunct Hooters Tour, Hogan Tour, among others. They are relying on colleges to provide top notch players. The talking heads constantly talked about the best players aren't playing together enough. Are they really the best players or are they just the most popular? I think the idea of the best players needs to be better defined, because right now most of the guys on LIV are former best players and more like has beens. Being a popular player shouldn't automatically mean you get a free pass. If so UA-cam players should soon start filling up fields. Aging veterans in other pro sports don't get a free pass. Eventually father time catches up and the younger players pass you by.
The people being marketed most heavily on the PGA Tour are past their best too Just like tennis, it's a handful of players who draw the attention and they're not necessarily the best
The PGA Tour had EVERYTHING advantage. Talent, networks, logistics, legitimacy, history, depth, courses, prestige, and they STILL can’t win. Pure idiocy
Sort of like politics, people should be able to make the choice they feel best fits them. However the PGA has a path and LIV gives money up front, the PGA also supports most of the teaching pro's who have helped the guys get to this point, somehow we always like to forget about the real "workers" of a group and only the elite. Life is a cycle and take chances and deal with what happens, don't cry afterwards.
I like both LIV and the PGA. I also watch the DP World, Korn Ferry, and LPGA. I just love watching golf. As far as “blood money” goes, I don’t think there is one sponsor that doesn’t have some sort of business interaction with Saudi businesses. The world is closer and there’s complicated interactions that most people aren’t even aware of. We also have pharmaceutical companies sponsoring events, and commercials every 10 seconds during events. I don’t agree with that at all. I personally don’t think and pharmaceutical should be advertised on TV period. That’s just my opinion. Whatever ends up happening, I just want to watch quality golf. I’m always going to watch all the majors and all the premier events. That’s a given. But sometimes I don’t watch the smaller events. That’s where LIV can shine. It’s like a format change to keep things interesting. Anyway, my opinion probably doesn’t make one bit of difference. I’ll just be watching whatever is on.
So, after all the nonsense, the PGA Tour basically got hijacked and certain people are pocketing a lot of money. These guys are ALL way overpaid and it just trickles down do all the fans paying a lot more for everything.
I just though LIV was bad golf, wasn't viewable. Poor broadcast effort. I also didn't agree with the buying of players in an effort to dilute the PGA Tour into oblivion. Fortunately enough great players stayed, and another generation came along to keep the PGA alive and kicking.

The Saudi’s had ownership of 28 of the tour sponsors, so their blood money was already there. LOL.

Modern tv commentators ought to listen to wide world of sports commentators. Instead of watching the game, they are commenting on what stats their screens are giving them. It is one of the reason that many golfers prefer LIV, collegiate golf and the LPGA. Those announcers are in the game they’re watching.
I’m glad this will get resolved. I don’t care what happens other than they make tournaments fun to watch again. Less opinions is a start. I care nothing for “their” opinions.

I have long hoped that the Euros and internationals would start their own Ryder Cup type event against each other. I think it would add a lot to the game and also provide some relief for the US players by giving them a year off which the US players could really use. Having to play a really long PGA schedule, then the PGA playoffs (plus all the majors) the top US players then have to go directly into either a Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup EVERY year without a break while the Euros and internationals currently only play in the big cup events every other year. It really is a big disadvantage for the US players.

@@dbo4506 Saudi PIF (Public Investment Fund) is a national fund used to invest in lots of different areas including sports. Many countries have a PIF. The Saudi PIF owns LIV.
Yeah they are self-employed contractors as long as they do exactly what the PGAT tells them to do. Like you can only play in tournaments that the PGAT gives you permission to play in. I'm in the engineering business and people who are self-employed contractors can go work for whoever they want without any repercussions. PGAT has always been a monopoly and they are trying like hell not to lose it.

Another example of why the PGA Championship needs to go international. Perhaps an annual rota of selected continents. That way, the PGA won't have to remain the weakest link in the group of majors.

Matt, Growing the number of golfers worldwide is the name of the game. I live on a golf course. I am seeing an increase in the numbers of golfers. More high school players and more college age golfers. Any thing that increases those numbers is great. I am seeing more loud music in golf carts and I think it's great. For sure the influence of LIV

FYI everyone talks about PIF blood money but The Aramco Team Series presented by PIF is a series of five Ladies European Tour (LET) events that are sanctioned by the LET and organized by Golf Saudi. Seems that's ok. For me the PGA tour has become boring they need to get some fun back into the game. Like PGA/LPGA team events, Skins game, PGA/LPGA celebrity events.

I've been a fan of the PGA Tour for over 40 years. I didn't care for LIV, but I'm all for more playing opportunities for players. The biggest caveat I feel is the fact that pro golf is top heavy. It is what it is. The part the PGA Tour and LIV need to realize is the modern golf fan isn't really tuning into them. The modern fan is watching more UA-cam golf influencers. These are players that either tried pro golf and didn't make it or are just fans of golf and make videos. Either way, the point is there isn't nearly enough investment into the developmental tours. As in the now defunct Hooters Tour, Hogan Tour, among others. They are relying on colleges to provide top notch players.
The talking heads constantly talked about the best players aren't playing together enough. Are they really the best players or are they just the most popular? I think the idea of the best players needs to be better defined, because right now most of the guys on LIV are former best players and more like has beens. Being a popular player shouldn't automatically mean you get a free pass. If so UA-cam players should soon start filling up fields. Aging veterans in other pro sports don't get a free pass. Eventually father time catches up and the younger players pass you by.
The people being marketed most heavily on the PGA Tour are past their best too

Sort of like politics, people should be able to make the choice they feel best fits them. However the PGA has a path and LIV gives money up front, the PGA also supports most of the teaching pro's who have helped the guys get to this point, somehow we always like to forget about the real "workers" of a group and only the elite. Life is a cycle and take chances and deal with what happens, don't cry afterwards.
I like both LIV and the PGA. I also watch the DP World, Korn Ferry, and LPGA. I just love watching golf. As far as “blood money” goes, I don’t think there is one sponsor that doesn’t have some sort of business interaction with Saudi businesses. The world is closer and there’s complicated interactions that most people aren’t even aware of. We also have pharmaceutical companies sponsoring events, and commercials every 10 seconds during events. I don’t agree with that at all. I personally don’t think and pharmaceutical should be advertised on TV period. That’s just my opinion.
Whatever ends up happening, I just want to watch quality golf. I’m always going to watch all the majors and all the premier events. That’s a given. But sometimes I don’t watch the smaller events. That’s where LIV can shine. It’s like a format change to keep things interesting. Anyway, my opinion probably doesn’t make one bit of difference. I’ll just be watching whatever is on.

I just though LIV was bad golf, wasn't viewable. Poor broadcast effort. I also didn't agree with the buying of players in an effort to dilute the PGA Tour into oblivion. Fortunately enough great players stayed, and another generation came along to keep the PGA alive and kicking.
