    If you’ve never had guava jam before you are missing out. Making this fresh jam brought back so many wonderful memories of my mom and sister in the kitchen.

      Yes you can, but you'll probably have to add pectin to your recipe.

    Men wow!!! You should have your own show on global TV, so easy to understand you and follow your instructions. Am going to try today or tomorrow, just ordered a new cooker so am not sure when it will be delivered. But I got a huge guava tree in my side yard, the iguanas, chameleons and birds have been camping at that tree for over a month now. Can't wait for results of my jam with your recipe. Love from Nairobi Kenya ❤️🇰🇪

    • @CookingwithShirani
      @CookingwithShirani  3 роки тому

      Wow! Thank you so much! You are so sweet and kind. I appreciate that 😊. Since you have those animals camping at the tree, you might not get any if you wait too long lol, you can go ahead and boil it and get the pulp out and freeze it and when you are ready to make your jam just thaw it out. I like to do that when I have too much guava. Good luck to you. Sending lots of love to you in Nairobi 🤗❤

    I was just given a box of guavas from a friends tree. I have made guava ice cream and since my husband loves guava jam/jelly I found your recipe. We are going to try it tonight. Looks easy and straight forward. My husband is excited to make this as he eats a lot of guava jelly.

    Thank you! I bought these guavas not aware that the fruit itself was difficult to eat since the seeds were so big and hard. Instead of throwing the fruit away, I made this jam and it wasn't as difficult as I thought! I did this with light brown sugar instead (less than 1 cup), used a fresh lime and added a pinch of salt to amplify the flavor. I reused some of my old empty jars I hoarded from other foods; that was the more concerning part since I've never canned anything before and it seems like if you skip the boiling part, you could introduce mold and bacteria into your jam.

    • @CookingwithShirani
      @CookingwithShirani  4 місяці тому

      You are so welcome! That's great that you decided to make some jam. I never thought of putting a little bit of salt in there before. I'll keep that in mind for my next batch. Thank you 😊

    Thanks for sharing your recipe with us. Sometimes I don't have time to make jam when the guava's seem to be ripening all at once and falling off our tree. So we save them to make jam later by slicing them and freezing until we have the time.

    I want to say thanks for this video. I needed to use the guavas I was given but couldn’t find pectin. You explained everything so well, especially the part about testing if it’s done by making a line through the jam on the plate. I had more juice and pulp to begin with, so I knew it would take longer to cook and that simple instruction made my jam perfect. I did use less sugar (after reading other recipes). I used half the amount of sugar than guava juice/pulp and it’s delicious, but I’m sure that’s a personal preference. I did use fresh limes. But, again, thanks for a good instructional video.

    I just found Guava at the store today, came home and found your video and got started! I followed your recipe to the T except I had a lemon nearby on the counter so I opted for it rather than lime juice. It turned out just delicious- goodness gracious it tastes good! At the time of writing I now have them in the water bath. There was enough for two full jars, and a nice sample jar that's cooling in the fridge now, we couldn't wait till tomorrow. =) Thanks a million for this recipe, God bless!

    Last year at the beginning of the pandemic, I found fresh guava at the local Walmart here in Louisiana. I spent the last 7 years living in south Florida and was used to having Caribbean flavors all the time. I found your video last year and literally all my family has talked about all year was how good your jam was. The Walmart here just got them again in season and I’m about to go to town on all the packages I just found. Thank you for sharing this recipe! Makes me feel like I’m back in Miami! Nice recipe and great music in the background. Please provide a link to the music if you can. I know it was a long time ago. I have so many guavas growing in my backyard, I didn't know what to do with them. Now I know. Thanks.

    Scco out seeds... put in a cheese cloth bag.. put on to boil out all pulp, etc. Blend the seedless fruit.. Add the "pulp" liquid to main guava amount...You get away from the mashing and straining..

    Hi! I absolutely love this recipe. Not a guava fan but we have 3 trees and I thought why not try something new and OMG!! Your jam recipe is Aaaamazing!!! Thanks for sharing. Just 1 Q. After boiling and canning and the lids pop, how should I store the jars and how long are they good for? Thanks in advance.

    • @CookingwithShirani
      @CookingwithShirani  2 роки тому +1

      You are so welcome! Aww, thank you so much as well. That makes me so happy to hear that ❤. In my opinion, guava jam is one of the best jams out there 😊. Lucky you to have 3 trees! You can store the jam in a cool, dry place away from direct light. It could last up to a year but once opened store it in the refrigerator.

    Do I have to strain the fruit out or can I keep it in ? I love chunky textures

    • @CookingwithShirani
      @CookingwithShirani  Рік тому

      The reason I strained it is to get the seeds out. The seeds are really hard you can't chew them. Maybe you can try cutting around the seeds to use the pulp.

    Thanks for sharing this recipe. I just cooked pineapple jam by my own version and it is really good to spread to slice bread. For the guava jam I will cook next time as soon as I can buy guavas here in CA. God bless.
