Not exactly, dude! Mercedes-Benz G-Class is lightyears ahead Rivian in terms of true offroad experience and capability. Rivian is still just a start-up project... You can't compare them to the inventor of the automobile. Rivian vehicles are a NOBODIES compared to the one and only Mercedes G-Class!
Best comment, and the best feature of the G-Roar is to be able to disable it. The rear box over the window blocking the view is also not great. The Hummer is way better in every aspect, and MB is still some years behind not only Rivian, but even the Chinese with amazing EV and PHEV off-roaders, look into DMO and DiSus-P for example.

I'm also sure the G Wagen wouldn't be on the shopping list for most of the haters regardless of the motor. Variety is good.
Nice car, glad it is on the channel, G wagons are unique though, better than the ICE version i would think. Price will be eye watering. but 3 tonnes is like other big EVs a bit lazy in the design. For Evs to really work we need loads of 7 KW destination chargers that mean batteries can be smaller to get lighter more efficient EVs.

Obviously this is a well thought out all-terrain ev. For price it won't be for everyone, plus many think that ev's are on the way out. But I don't think so for this segment. An ev of these characteristics makes sense in many geographic areas.
Interesting that he said a regular Merc takes 25 hours to build and this E Gwagon takes 100 hours to build. Tesla are taking 2.5 hours to build with one rolling off a production line every minute.... Legacy auto need to get a wiggle on!
Oh..., well, therefore Tesla "build quality" is one of most ridiculous and most disgusting in the whole industry! Alone the door closing sound of the G makes this EV a much better experience than all these crappy built American EVs from a soulless carmaker, which is lead by a psychopath! Shut up, you are boooooooring!!
Hi Jonny. Your show is quirky but real interesting. Not sure what the market is for the 3T Merc G Wagon as its weight is a problem when it comes to range. I'm in Australia own a 1965 289W Muzzy & a 2015 Forester turbo & I don't know how many times I have driven on the empty line in the Muzzy or on the orange fuel light in the Subie. I live in the country so 200-300km daily is a regular occurrence. Charging locations are scarcer than rocking horse poo. Even If I run out of petrol, I can get to the closest petrol station get back to the car & off I go. An electric car would cause issues if those scenario's arose so that is a big reason for my reluctance to go electric car. I would be the perfect candidate for range anxiety. I love the idea of greater torque & power & the environmentally friendly emissions but there are other issues concerning the exploitation of developing countries that include uncontrolled mining (cobalt) & the high use of water (lithium). Mining & the refining of the materials used in electric cars have significant impacts on the environment, the very thing that is trying to be protected. History tells us this will occur (oil). These issues are not being discussed very much when talking about electric cars. Cheers
Absolutely not the car the world needs but...as one who LOVES cars and have 2 ev's in the household already the G-wagon has always been a semi ugly but cool boxy dream of a car to own i am impressed that mercedes just went completely all out to make this not only electric but even a super capable terrain vehicle in a different league compared to the ICE version. This however..not gonna be cheap :P

Watched the same preview by TpGear and felt wasted 20mins of my life. The guy just went through the spec sheet and telling you what Mercedes marketing dept would like you to know. Just awful.
Whilst I appreciate the technology that has gone into this, as Jonny says, we do not need a 3 tonne SUV, either ICE or EV. Car manufacturers really should be focusing on smaller, lighter cars with smaller batteries that still achieve a decent range through efficiency. They may not be a profit machine but that shouldn't be the focus of manufacturers if the combined focus is reducing emissions.

I came to the conclusion, EVs aren't going to save the planet, but are just from a physics perspective a far more efficient form of transport and will leave us with far cleaner air , are there issues with EVs ? Yes it's still a work in Progress , especially on the infrastructure/cost of charging front.
I don't think EVs should be forced onto people, but I do believe that market forces and common sense will mean that EVs will dominate.
Have you thought of perhaps doing a myth busting edition of your show Jonny, probably with some UA-cam channel petrol heads ?
I don't think you can change some people's minds ( they are clearly closed) but it might send a few down the path of actually exploring and seeking the truth out ?!
@@TheLateBrakeShowyou may find many aren’t actually normal day people. Guessing many are paid trolls with vested interests.
I sold a Lexus CT200h and bought a Diesel Volvo D5 estate. I also have a Petrol Mercedes. I do not believe that EV is the way to go especially in the UK.
An EV in City’s not really suitable, cables across pavements, or hanging from 4th floor flat windows.
EV not really suitable for many villages due to lack of infrastructure.
They will become the dinosaurs of vehicles.
Love Mercedes, love 4X4’s and I love a big old diesel but this is where we’re heading and I bet the vehicle performs!
Brings me to my real reason for posting.. I tried to contact you on the website but couldn’t get through. So in the hope that you read these comments I hope you don’t mind if I drop this here?
Hi,
I hope this message finds you well. My friend’s dad sadly recently passed away and he has inherited his old Land Rover that has been sitting in the car port for several years. His dad and both of us have been big fans of your show and he’s just mentioned how cool it would be for you to document us recovering the vehicle and getting it running. He wants to take his dad’s ashes in the landy for one last trip to scatter them.
Is this something you might be interested in? We live in Suffolk and would be so happy to have a visit from you. What do you think?
Kindest regards
Tony

I thought that was the case, your shows very popular! Thanks for the reply, ill send over the email now
Excellent interview. Well prepared and presented. These vehicles are like jewelry posing as tools good at both but not tops at either.
Lovely vehicle if you can turn off the fake sounds. Cheers 🇨🇦
Excellent and detailed info. I want a hybrid so I can go anywhere.
Congratulations Mercedes you present what Rivian figured out years ago. 😊
Ha! You could say that...
@@SomewhereInTheSolarSystem A 4 tons heavy piece of shit vehicle called "Hummer" is a totally NOTHING compared to the G.
Amateurs like you are ridiculous.😂
I like it, I’m interested in it, but I’ll never be able to afford one, lottery ticket🤞
I’m disappointed that the Daimler-Benz collaboration with Tesla went sour. Where would we be today had that partnership had flourished? Well done Mercedes!
I'm watching you on Pluto TV it's the Renault Wind episode, sadly you aren't driving it. What a funny little car.
Locks door, pulls handle to make sure it's locked, door unlocks. Not just me who does that is it ?
Yep, that.
I'm warming to these. I used to think they were boxy and a bit retro, but not so much now when you look at Kia EV9 etc.
As Johnny knows the transition continues.
Everybody : Ev’s are the simplest cars to maintain with the fewest parts that can go wrong.
Mercedes: Hold my beer! 4 gearboxes, done.
Zero gearboxes. A motor at each wheel just like Rivian
116kwh battery - 289 miles wltp - holy cow…
Certainly more than enough for my daily adventure,
at the local mall parking lot
That's the efficiency you get when you attach a battery to a house. Can't imagine you get more than low teens for the ICE one in the real world.
actually superb range with that shape. Makes you wonder where Geely went wrong with the Zeekr 001
Evening Cliff, although not strictly necessary a fresh paint job is very satisfying, have a good break, bye for now 😀
I find it very interesting how they engineered all the EV technology and capabilities into the G without making it look different. It's quite the achievement. I'm sure lots of people will hate it.
THE car for environmentally conscious drug dealers 😎😛🙃

Nice interview guys. Cool car that I'll never be able to afford 😂
I never really considered, before EVs came along, just how suited they would be to off road driving.
It's a shame most of these Chelsea tractors won't be tested in that area. It's a nice thing to have in the world though.
I think it’s awesome that this car is made!
Love it. I wonder if you could spec it (after the launch edition goes away) to look more utilitarian on the outside and all the tech inside? Hmmmm???
Deffo prefer a more utilitarian look beyond the launch car. In our experience lost launch editions look worse and cost more!
3.1tonne makes it officially a light truck in Australia and needs a truck license if it goes over 4.5tgvm
Give one to the 4WD 24-7 boys and see how it goes off road!
Electric vehicles, I love it, keep the reviews coming !
I love all this tech, but have you noticed how many people can't use cruise control on a freeway, highway, etc😊
I love G-Wagon's. Epic looking Vehicle.
I quite like the look of this compared to the AMG, this is less bling!...much nicer
They need to make a g wagon the same size as a Suzuki Jimny. More affordable and it would be great.
A stupid vehicle gets a stupid EV makeover
Ok I’m not a fan on big cars or heavy cars anyway but that low hum noise just seems ridiculous 😂, feel bad saying that as the guy looked so proud of it 😅
First time seeing someone make Johnny look short! Lol..
Hello, i like the 240 D from the 80s. 😊
Oh hell I wish I could afford one of these, but I'm strange, Rj in Oz
Nice car. Sadly I am not a rapper or an instagram model so nothing for me (obviously I have no money). A very enjoyable review though and I like the accent of those guys. My bosses boss is from Germany and sounds the same.
Get rid of the sound bar and put a frunk there.
Frunks are useless you dont want to open the big bonet to put some groceries there.
My phone needs charging 😫😫
Obviously this is a well thought out all-terrain ev. For price it won't be for everyone, plus many think that ev's are on the way out. But I don't think so for this segment. An ev of these characteristics makes sense in many geographic areas.
EVs are on their way out? I think you might have your wiring around the wrong way.
7:20 So MB went: Soundbar that everyone will turn of or frunk? -> Soundbar because wwwrummmm
This is what the old Defender could have been. Shame on you, Land Rover.
Impressive engineering but a 3 ton 4x4 for the school run is not what the world needs right now.
This will sell well to those shady people in the sunny climes. The macho Prius for the glitterati.
This film is as usual top quality with JS looking genuinely interested in this model compared to the other piston versions of the previous film. Either that or because he had to crick his head up to talk to he very tall engineer. Everything seems bigger in Germany.........
This is the one car that makes pretty much every viewer of this channel hate it and the sort of people who actually buy them. Johnny does his best but its pretty obvious how infuriating this whole scene is
Electrogenic made some restomoded Defenders that are being trialled by the Army. I wonder when we will see military applications for this. Maybe something like the Rheinmetall Caracal 🤔
I wonder how the drag coefficient compares to the current combustion engine model, instead of the previous one. Kinda cheekie!
Oh no Jonny, not more electric junk!
cant wait to see these on hollywood boulevard, no where near dirt
Love Jonny's review. Well paced, chill and informative. Albiet a Mercedes invited event, Jonny tried to infuse little bit of personal thoughts here and there.
Johnny did you ask the bloke wat the weather is like up there
What about a short wheelbase 3-door version with less power and longer reach !??
And then you see them marketing with a rapper jumping all over it. Sad, damn sad.
You won't be going far to go offroad. 116kw in that brick will get you about 1.5hrs at 125km/h...
Who's going 125kph off road?
@@TheLateBrakeShow
I believe they meant the travel distance to go off-roading, not the distance of actually doing off roading.
Efficiency seems horrible, but it's just another EV 'genius' who knows everything about electric cars, because he heard some other 'genius' telling him how 'good' they are...
Off road in a 100-200k car? You havent been to many offroad events.
I wonder how many owners will attempt to use the G-Turn function in the middle of central London when they've driven down a dead end. Why bother with the three point turn...
Bring the electric Jimny, Suzuki!
As a german, can anyone thell me where english speaking people got "G Wagen" from. I have never heard this term before. We say G Klasse (G Class) or G-Modell and maybe G-Wagon. Nobody says G Wagen :D Just wondering.
Are customers actually asking for synthesised sound? I bloody hate it in my Taycan and even set up individual drive to have all regular settings but no sound. I think the next generation will think we were so weird.
Is it normal that me, a german, born in germany, raised in germany and living in germany hates the german accent in the english of the expert? 😅
