This is Egyptian dancing not black dancing. Blacks have their own dance that is literal imitation of having sex and that is how they still dance in their villages today. Egyptian dancing is classy and elegant and feminine not like having sex in public like black dancing.

Also, I am a total Newbie to this. Can we talk about covered abdomens? I notice here in America, bare abs are obviously no big deal. These are older clips and the abs are covered. When/where is it okay now to have uncovered abs if at all?
Also, there is some dances in which you can't show the belly. The two pieces bellydance costume is western and not linked with eastern culture. The reallity is that bellydance is performed with galabeyas or traditional clothes.
The responses below are correct. I'd like to add that the navel was seen as an erogenous zone and it was considered more modest to cover it. The advent of cinema and tourists from the West also caused the Egyptian government to add more rules to what tourists or outsiders would see. Therefore, modest midriffs, more "stagey" (as opposed to folkloric), controlled movements and a huge reduction of floor work became the norm.
