- Join me as I review this book and compare it to the real thing. Walk with me down Duke of Gloucester Street and the historic areas of Williamsburg at Christmas.
400,000 candles, 2,552 wreaths, 8 million lights: Williamsburg at Christmastime. Every year guests come from near and far to enjoy the festivities. It's a place where you find enduring traditions, charming decorations, and a season that warms the heart. Christmas at Colonial Williamsburg will be a photographic journey celebrating classic decorations and celebrations of an 18th century Christmas.
Historical Williamsburg is magical anytime but especially at Christmas.
How lovely to see this! I was born and raised in Williamsburg. My parents and relatives were costumed employees of Colonial Williamsburg. My family lived in the Charlton House on Duke of Gloucester Street for 10 years. My sister and I have many happy memories of Christmas in Williamsburg. Thank you for posting this video.
Wow--that is fabulous!
Audrey, how do you get a job as a costumed employee? I'd love to apply.
Please put your videos on a playlist, so we can watch all them, one after another. 😊
My aunt and uncle use to live in a very nice neighborhood just around the corner, literally a ten minute or less drive, from the Colonial village, with the Chickahominy River right in their back yard. It is all a very special place. Merry Christmas from the northern part of Florida, where it can get pretty dang cold for winter. Cheers!
Such a wonderful place...thank you!!
I've enjoyed a couple of visits to Colonial Williamsburg in the Fall, it's such a beautiful area. I'm so glad you talked about the Twelve Days of Christmas; it would be wonderful if people still celebrated it as in the Tradition, without all of the commercialization and rush leading up to just one day with so many thinking the 25th is the last day of Christmas. Beautiful video, Cheers!
I agree. It's so sad to see people over the Christmas season on the 25.
The Puritans did that to us.
I’ve never gotten to go to colonial Williamsburg nor do I see my self ever getting to visit it but that’s beside the point. I enjoyed this video immensely. Thank you for taking me on this tour of a place that has unsurpassed beauty and history.
What a beautiful video that you put together. Merry Christmas to you, your family and all your followers. 🌲🎁🎄
Grigsby- you were an early and constant supporter of my new channel. I thank you for that! Merry Christmas to you!
I have been coming to CW since I was 12. And once married my husband and I come every year the week after Thanksgiving. I hosted five luncheons to raise funds for The Foundation and thereby made some endearing, wonderful friends we meet with every year since the luncheons ended. The spirit of CW runs in our blood - the love of our friends is treasured. The mere existence the Colonial Williamsburg is treasure to be held seriously and should be valued. The book is a plethora of candy to the eye and education to the mind.
Make CW part of your life. You will never regret it at Christmas nor any time of for that matter. Huzzah Huzzah. Buy the book!❤️
Yes, to everything in your comment! Williamsburg is a national treasure!
I love it! I used to make a pilgrimage to Williamsburg, but not during Christmas.
Although I have made several trips to CW and have enjoyed it each time, I have never been there during the Christmas season. I do love to decorate my home in the CW style - inside and out - during this festive season. Thank you for this lovely tour. Merry Christmas!
Thank you for watching and Merry Christmas to you as well!
Beautiful table setting. Love the snow covered scenery. Thanks for the video.
Our favorite place for the holidays, our tradition is to visit and stay at the Williamsburg White House Inn for New Year’s. Thank you for featuring Mary, may you and your family have a blessed and Merry Christmas.
That's where we stayed. What a beautiful place. Queen Elizabeth was a guest at this inn during her visit in 2006 for the 400th anniversary of Jamestown. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas to you and your family also!
@@thetartantopiary yes she did, thank you Mary.
Thank you! This is the first year, in twenty years, that I cannot visit CW during the holidays.☹️ My Family enjoyed it so and your video at least gave me some joy from the memories. Merry Christmas!🎄🎄👋👋
Lovely video. I have never been, so this was a true delight!
Very nicely filmed! A beautiful and illuminating, literally, walk back in time.
Thank you! It was very illuminating, to borrow your pun! 😁

Colonial Williamsburg is beautiful during this time of the year. My husband and I tried to visit the place.
I enjoyed walking at the Duke of Gloucester Street. Well presented. Thank you
Merry Christmas
Thank you for the thoughtful comment. I appreciate it. Merry Christmas to you!
This wonderful book review is more like a live action docudrama than just a book review! Very well done!! Going there to Williamsburg near Christmas time has been a bucket list wish of mine for many, many years. Going with you on your walk is almost like being there. I just purchased the cookbook. I think I already have this book; I have several about Williamsburg, so I have to check my library first before I buy any more. But I can see it's a lovely book. Thank you again for all your reviews, and Merry Christmas to you and your family too!
Thank you! I hope you get a chance to visit Williamsburg, it is a treat anytime of the year but especially at Christmas. My hands were chilly, but my soul was warm! Merry Christmas!
I haven't visited Williamsburg for decades, and never during the holidays. It's going on the list again right now after seeing your delightful video and book review. Like another commented, the wreaths are wonderful.
Enjoyed this very much. Great job and thank you for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
As a European, it is lovely to look at this very french classic home!
Thanks so much for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and your family🎄
Your colonial America is like a dream! Reality today is different in many countries and people are suffering and don’t believe in this “American dream” or any other dream anymore which is a pity and something we all must work really hard to change 🌹
This is a sad reality. History in every nation is important to know. I try to read as much as I can about the past. Thanks for commenting. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
A lovely book. Makes me want to return, I haven’t been there in so long. Thank you! Don’t you just love the wreaths?
So glad and grateful for your channel Mary . Wish you Health , serenity and peace of mind for the new year . Merry Christmas from my family to yours .
Thank you, sincerely! May you and yours be blessed this coming year also. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas🎄🎅🏻⛄️❣️
Such a difference I just experienced at Williamsburg. Your example is nothing like my experience. As a matter of fact, the one evening dinner you displayed appeared very similar to Swift Tavern where most received quite uncooked capon. Pretty to look at any time of the year, but suggest going when everything is open.
@@joanbleacher469 Where is Swift Tavern? We were in the historic part of Williamsburg and everything was open there.
@@thetartantopiary it is on Grovernor St, only open for special events
Thank you for this gift. I live here and will walk your route tomorrow evening.
Merry Christmas, I love your channel and stories 🎄🧑🎄
Thank you for that happy comment. Merry Christmas to you!
My husband and I were there a couple summers ago. I would love to,go back, for the Holidays, some year. A wonderful place to visit anytime, of the year. I feel Christmas would be a lovely time to go back. Enjoyed the video. Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
Thank you Mary, for this wonderful walk through Historic Williamsburg, it is absolutely beautiful, until today I had no idea how much I had been missing, and will definitely plan on taking my next vacation there.
Blessings and Merry Christmas
It really is a beautiful place. Merry Christmas to you! Thanks for watching.
How beautiful! Thank you for the tour! Reminds me of Old Salem.
Tryon Palace next?
YES!!!
@@thetartantopiary yay! Looking forward to it!
What a beautiful place .
This is such a wholesome perspective on the holiday. All the traditions come alive in your video from Williamsburg. Merry Christmas!
Would love to visit someday! Absolutely stunning.
Happy holidays during the season and beyond.
Beautiful tour. Thank you for sharing.
Very well done and presented.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful Christmas and all the other shows you put together.
Thank you for the thoughtful comment. I'm so glad you enjoy them!

Thank you so much for your channel. I love your book reviews - and this time even visiting Colonial Williamsburg! Merry Christmas to you and your family, and greetings from Finland.
Thank you for watching and saying hello. Merry Christmas to you as well!
Love Williamsburg. We got engaged ther October 10, 1981.
Thank you! 💜
Great video
Skating, shops,gardens----dining outdoors on upper market St and farmer's market--
We just left. Enjoy! It was chilly but beautiful and soul warming!
What’s the name of the song you’re playing through out the video
"Canon in D" composed by Johann Pachelbel
The politics in that state is brutal. Removal of statues to appease those who refuse to learn from history? Yeah I think not
Only because unfortunately Democrats still exist in this country. When they are gone this country can get back to normal.
This is where my parents spent their honeymoon in October 1960. I haven't visited yet but I hope to.
@driterman319 the far left progressives causes everything to regress. The center dems get lost in the noise.
Agreed.
What's with the jazz music ? Otherwise a nice video
@@Odo55 Thanks! Since this was a Christmas video, I thought I would play some Christmas music. The first song is, “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”. The second is “Pachelbel's Canon” in D major. He was a baroque composer. This song is often played at Christmas.
Lovely video, unfortunately music is a bit monotonous.
Thanks for the feedback.
You're welcome.@@thetartantopiary
@@thetartantopiarythe music goes with the video and the time of the year.
