Maybe you could mount a swing arm for your tv a bit high to the staircase? Most important thing about a couch is that a person can lay prone between the arms of the couch.
keep the couch, i tried a smaller couch and its just not as freeing, especially in a small space sometimes its best to prioritize comfortably over anything. the couch you have fits nice and doesn’t look big on camera. The way you changed the living room is really nice! and yeah my cats love to claw the couch. the more shiny velour material would look worse quickly than your current. keep ! keep ! i think thats all my notes, love the cat sweater with the green and the bottom hem is nice and thick...ideal. slay.
Ryan, I don’t know if they make this stuff in Japan, but at the pet stores here, you can get this double sided sticky tape. That’s meant to put on furniture and things it keeps the cat from scratching on them because they don’t like the sticky on their paws.😊

Also I live in a studio and a view things we do with the tv is having it on something that moves to be able to tuck it away or getting a wall mount that retractable so we can push it against the wall when we aren’t using it hope this helpssss

For the apartment layout: I like the new couch angle. Look into the swivel tv mounts for walls you could tuck it under the stair when not using it and then pull it out to face the couch when u need it. You could also put the tv on a mobile tv stand with wheels.

Maybe buying a small scratching post for your cat might make it not scratch the sofa anymore, cats love to scratch on things so it will become a habit to use the post instead!

Just get a chair, bean bag chair, cushion etc that u can put infront the TV and leave the couch against the wall….also it’s a chair so u can move it when ur not sitting on it..
