I had lower back and knee soreness back in the day when bike fitting was just a pipe dream. I spent a good year changing stem,seat height etc much to the amusement of my friends. It worked though,I`ve been good ever since. Spending a day with your mate is a good investment as preventive treatment for aches and pains that might or might not be there.
Just catching up on a few videos and sorry to be so late with comments. What I enjoy so much about your channel is variety but consistent variety. By that I mean that every so often you present Bike Fit Tuesdays with the master of bicycle kinesiology, James and then you follow it up with a terrific bike ride with friends around London or other terrific settings and on and on. I really enjoy all your friends too - James, Lawrence, Chris, Jimmy and all the rest. Just love it - great job man, great job!
Interesting. I'm currently having pain in the front of my left knee. And you say its perhaps excess height of the saddle. Yet others say the opposite and its a result of the seat being too low ?
I have a 44cm compact bar on.my 54cm and I have wide shoulders so it works. I have tried a 42 and I like it best in group rides but as i ride in a hilly area mainly the wider bar I find is better out of the saddle. If unloved in a flat area I'd go 42 even 40. Benefit has me on a 43.3 .
I have pain in both knees, it all started this year with a bike which I bought last Autumn. I don't remember having the pains last year but I also only rode 5 times before the winter. Now starting this year around April after approx 10 trips (15km each) both knees started hurting like a bitch, especially when starting to pedal when I'm not warmed up and when I'm off the bike it hurts when I get up from a seated position (couch, bed or chair). Pain is coming from the front side of the knees. I suspect my cranks are too long, 17.75cm and my height is 185cm. Could that be the case or it's probably something else?
Francis - If you get a pain on the ball of your foot is it best to try and move the cleat forwards or backwards on your foot or could it be something else that is causing the pain?
backwards! always backwards! you can never have you're cleats too far back!!! OK I went too far, you can but try taking them further back and see how it feels
James Thomas I.put mine right back and cut does feel better for me in.knees but the down side is I felt more powerful.on.the halfway mark. Leverage diminishes I feel.
I've just taken delivery if a pair of black shoes, can't believe bought black but I think its wise. Single dial type have made the right choice with northwave? Nice soft feel on the uppers integrate d heel nice.

So far it's great. Need to give it a coupla week and see how the adjustments feel. And then make a call on if I want to change the saddle or not. Will probably do an update vlog with Francis in few weeks time. :)
