Never ever shorten the videos!!! I love the length and it’s very therapeutic to have a slower paced video, plus easier for diy mechanics to follow along. M539 productions and a whole host of other channels do long videos on a single repair just like this and I’ve never disliked a single one
Hello AMD, I do not own a GX, but please do not cut parts out of the video even if other suggest. I appriciate the multi video approach to documenting a job. For us diyers, there is nothing like learning and hearing every step from a MDT like yourself. No one online goes into the depth of knowledge on video like you do. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us all, you truly can't put a price on knowledge and experience.
I don't know who is asking for shorter videos but what makes your channel great is the long form super indepth videos. Please do not shorten them. No problem with breaking them up, but watching the long videos are like therapy for me! Thanks again for all the great content!
Dashes could be Dyed colour ,matching up to what was original Color , If dyed the colour will be extremely close to original ,Dye kits are really good these days
Every single minute of your videos is appreciated, sir. Whether it's a short or long episode, I feel truly blessed to have someone like you-so knowledgeable, experienced, yet humble and kind.
Holy Mackerel , thats a lot of disassembly. I have a ton a respect for a mechanic who can figure out how to take something like this apart, and then put it all back together - correctly.
I appreciate the detail of your videos, so I don't mind if they run long...and I don't even own a Toyota or Lexus, I just admire the content. As you say, the details will help any DIYers. There's no rule that you have to watch the entire video--that's what the pause and stop buttons are for! Keep up the great work.
One good tip for interior jobs that have a lot of brittle plastic, turn your heat up all the way in the car and let all the interior plastics warm up so they don’t break as easy
Noooooooooo. That was hilarious!!!!!!!!!!! I felt like it was NOT long enough. I enjoy these videos over any Netflix movie anytime. Oh Jose's comment threw me into a loud laughter, what incredible timing!!!!!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I am so looking forward to part 2!!!!
I thought of you at work today, Ahmed. I am retired and work one day a week at a thrift store. I specialize in mechanical and electrical things. I was searching for a 10mm socket and wrench to assemble a donated spreader. I vowed to bring 3 spare 10mm sockets to work the next time.
Thanks, My dash is cracked. Sadly the cracks showed up after the warranty replacement period was over. I will be following your method closely. Better yet if I lived closer I would be bringing it to you for replacement. Love my Lexus. Been a great, reliable SUV for years - 289,489 miles. Keep up your great work. Love your channel. Can't wait for part 2!
Love the long videos!! It's great to watch repairs real time and see you work out any issues that you come across. It helps the DIY community! Looking forward to part 2!
I don't think your video's are too long. Here and there they drag. I look forward to your video's showing us front line what's going on and the detail of work required to do a job.
This was a great video! A longer one would be fine, too. I enjoy your videos very much. I've used them to give me courage to work on my new 4Runner, but mostly they remind me of my days as an aircraft mechanic in the Navy, where I had all the tools and training to get complicated jobs like this done all the time. I'd love to get my hands on the repair manuals for my 4Runner, but it appears that only certified auto mechanics can do that. I've changed the oil a few times, but that is it so far. I'll keep watching your videos and learning. Thank you!
Thanks for the video! I am following along step-by-step as I’m going to replace my gx470 dash. All the details you can provide are a huge help. You have the best quality auto videos on UA-cam - keep it up!
I wish more youtubers did the longer videos its nice to relax and just enjoy a 1 or 2 hour video like watching a movie very therapeutic to have a slower paced video Amd 0:10 @The Car Care Nut
Nice presentation as always and extremely useful going through every nut n bolt removal. No one has an excuse now for not removing dashboards on their own cars 😉 Will eagerly await part 2 and the unbox of the new dash.
AMD is having with fun us viewers/subscribers with a cliff hanger !! Leaving us in suspense and sleepless nights until the next episode . We know AMD DOES NOT make major mistakes !! ( LOL )
My favorite thing to do now in old cars after doing a thorough carpet cleaning in my old 03 Camry is pull back the carpets on the driverside to find out how much of decades spilled soda's have started to rot the metal below it.
Lmfao Did you check to make sure the new dash was the same color that reaction was priceless camera man did t skip a beat on that question 😂Amd 38:00 @The Car Care Nut
This colour is very common in Bangladesh. Due to the hot and humid climate people like light colour. And dashboard crack is very common. People usually use leather or vinyl wrapped instead of full replacement. Thank you.
Dear AMD, do not - I repeat - do NOT shorten your videos. Your YT channel is a success because of your longer format videos, not because it caters to tiktok brainrotters.
Jealous of that paint color. To me, it doesn't matter if the content is put into a single 2 hour long continuous video or split into multiple videos because the length of the content is the same. The pause button exists for those who can't watch it all in one sitting 😉 Whatever format is easiest for you and your team is best. Appreciate all the insight into your shop and the hard work you guys do.
You are one brave soul to rip all of that out and remember where every screw goes.😀I would be bagging and tagging every set of screws. And all those connectors. I have a 2007 GX470 that has some cracking but not that bad. I think I'll just get a nice dash mat if it gets a lot worse😄Great video and no, not too long.
The Color Is Sand Dollar Pearl Color Code 4R2 - Offered for only 1 model year, 2003. The Rarest Color A GX has it is a stunning Color Amd 0:15 @The Car Care Nut
AMD, I can't believe some do complain on the length of the videos. As with me, leave "as-is." I do own own a 12 ES 350 Lexus (maybe a GX 470 in the near future). This gives me an idea of what to expect. Thank you.
that dash looks mint compared to my 2010 mazda 3 melting dash 😂, i think i'll reupholter mine because is unobtanium right now. great video as always, looking forward to part two.
Wood grain plastic trim is Brital on all toyotas and Lexus's from the 90s and early 2000's the 3rd gen 4runners center dash stereo bezels are very prone to snapping after a few removals for the limited models like the 2000 LTD 4x4s especially when there southern hot states like arizona and utah Amd 15:20@The Car Care Nut
May I suggest since you like using your little screw driver, that you look at getting a tool kit for fixing phones and tablets. They are fairly inexpensive and have many great plastic prying tools that would really help take trim pieces off on these dashes.
I would never be able to get all the parts back together correct. Good job. Looks like it would be time consuming and cost big $$$ to do this because of the labor involved
Hello AMD, sorry to comment twice, but when you can, could you please update us on that blown 2UZ 4runner? As a 2UZ owner, I am curious to see how one blows up and especially its history. Thanks and God bless!
Those wood side panels - always pull straight back parallel with the floor of the vehicle. It's tempting to pull up in the direction the vents face and if you do that you'll break a clip. The good news is that plastic takes the gel-style superglue quite well so it's not hard to glue them back on. They're still available through the parts system ($1700 each) but you can't really replace just one - you have to replace the entire set or the wood grain won't match. Which to be honest - on a 20 year old vehicle, an owner isn't going to pay that.
Dash components used to be provided with no colour - black was what I used to see - so it had to go to the body shop for painting. I speculated that maybe they would provide factory coloured ones but maybe when the top up the part supply they only get ones designed to be painted - or in the most common colour (I do not know).
Your disdain for the aftermarket parts is too realistic. My previous car had plenty of that from the previous owners, and I HATED it! Decided I’m not going to put any aftermarket garbage on my 2022 GX 🎉
I was going to buy a older GX470 a couple years ago from an non-Toyota dealer and knew the dash had issues. This one was cracked. I called Toyota corporate based on some posts I saw online and they told me if I bought it they would have a local dealer replace the dash at no cost. Not sure if they are still doing that.
As a Lexus, if you ever do remove and break the wood trim bezel surrounding the radio. You can order the same trim piece from a Toyota Prado. Lexus discontinued the wood trim bezel. Honestly the one from the Prado is better because it’s not a wood trim, I believe it’s silver.
My 06 Camry probably will too if I hold onto it. Was my dad's when new and funny enough he's trying to nudge me to get a new Camry these days as I reply it still works without the worries you get from a newer vehicle
Southern cars dont have rust but have dash issues in the 2006-2011 Camry, Sienna 2005-2010 and Lexus IS and ES models. Likwise, Infiniti FX had the same problem.
The way that dashboard was decaying is an embarrassment for a Lexus. I live in Texas, and my cars sit out in the sun when I am at work. One of my sons had a IS250 and the same thing; in fact there was a recall for the door panels that were basically rotting/melting. The video is great AMD, but let's not ignore the elephant in the room. Lexus did some shady manufacturing with the interior plastics.
I've seen a handful of GX470's in this color over the years. Not a super common color though. Luckily, my GX was a 2009 and they had fixed the dashboard issue by then.
Very good video. Hector from Puerto Rico. That is a hard job, extremely difficult and very highly cost. I think than this dash have a recall because is not the reputation of Lexus is ugly. This car is so expensive to have cheap material of construction.😱😱😱

Agree 100%
And I get the opportunity to enjoy 2 cups of coffee while watching the longer videos instead of just one cup.
Totally agree. I love the long format, it is very instructive to see a professional handle the tricky stuff.

AMD, the length of the videos is fine. I enjoy learning from you.

The video came out quite literally while I was replacing my dash, great timing. And intensely detailed.
Wish me luck as I embark on part 2 on my own😂
Of all the projects you do, dash replacements are the most awesome to me.
You can't be a car mechanic without making jokes about missing 10mm sockets , lol
I could watch you do this all day! The skill of troubleshooting you use is amazing!
Keep the long videos coming!!!! It’s the best format starting with the GS rebuild series
I'm sure glad you know where everything goes back to including plugging everything back in. You also have a lot of patients.

Ok. OK> Never never cut out dis assembly. You are the best in the world and we struggle to learn.
This is a perfect example why using front window shades are worth the 15 seconds it takes to put them up
And dash covers are well worth the money
You can also get clear film for your windshield to block UV.
I always install my sun shades. In all windows. When my 2012 camry is not being driven. Definitely agree. Time an money well spent.
What about armor all? Or is there another product that works better?
With this dashboard, if you had one that was affected, it didn't matter.

Love you attention to detail AMD. Always a pleasure to watch you work 😎😎👍👍
Nice plot 🤩 nothing wrong with a little show business
For me it doesn't matter if the new dash is different color, it will be like a new/different car. As long as it has the nice wood trim.
How you can remember where all the bolts go back is beyond me.

These dashboard replacements are a bear to do. They never go back on like they came off. I did one for a 1990 Nissan 300 ZX a long time ago.
Hello AMD, sorry to comment twice, but when you can, could you please update us on that blown 2UZ 4runner? As a 2UZ owner, I am curious to see how one blows up and especially its history. Thanks and God bless!
OMG the cliffhanger 😂 Here for the details, always!
Duct tape over the cracked dashboard would have been much easier, LOL!
LMAO, I was thinking about the same! Maybe one of those rugs made to fit.
The same issue has the dashbord of the 120 series Prado also both share the same exact dash.
It’s really my favorite video, AMD❤

Which has a better chance of lasting 500,000 miles…… 2025 Corolla 2.0L or 2025 Camry hybrid???
Tough one. With good maintenance I hope they both last that long without issues
I watched the whole video just to see where Lexus put their soundproofing material. I can see felt all over the place.
I had an 07 Lexus RX350 that I got preowned that had the same issue.
