#nissan #leaf #roadtrip - Авто та транспорт
Caroline is a hero in the Leaf community with her many trips across America. What I tell people about our Leaf cross country road trips is that it is like flying a small plane. You can pretty much go anywhere, but you need to plan.
We've had our 2014 BMW i3 for 4 years now and have put on 60k miles in that time, even with the 18.8kwh battery and no dc charging option! We had it at the Grand Junction car show this year and it was great meeting other local ev owners.
I drive up and down the State of California in my 2018 Leaf, and you are 100% correct. Be good to the local community and they will even let you use a 110v outlet.
Thank you for your comment!! I hope you are having fun in your leaf!! I love my leaf I'm so free!!
I was somewhat of a energy pioneer when I was out in CA in the late 70s. My uncle converted his truck to propane and got me thinking about experimenting. My hybrid propane/gasoline chevette was my first real energy project. I drove it back to MA when I got out of the USAF. it had a combined 600mile range. No time for any experimenting until I retired. In 2018, I bought a prius prime. It was totaled (hit sitting at an intersection) and I made the decision to go full EV with a used 21 leaf. Longest trip has been 160mile round trip with 1 fast charge. I think of it like an old vw bug but the leaf is a pretty comfortable ride. It is fine for local transportation. The leaf doesn't like high speed driving in the hot weather. The battery heats up. Active cooling would be the best improvement. Range is only 150mi under ideal conditions but the battery has to be cool to accept maximum fast charge. I'm waiting for LFP in the new bolt or a tesla. Too bad that the leaf doesn't have battery and active cooling enhancement options.
This is awesome! More of these videos please!
My Nissan Leaf is a weapon. I floor it at every light. I drive 80 miles a day for work. Swimming all day every day.
I have done 200 - 350 trips in my 30kwh Soul EV. And once did 450 miles but that trip was rough. Way to persevere Carolyn! I shipped my car when I moved 1500 miles.
I could drive across Canada in a Smart EV if I spent 20 weeks charging on 120V too. Sometimes practicality doesn’t matter, but we road trip only in our Tesla.
Great interview. We had each of the bmw i3 battery sizes (started with 80, then 100, and finally 125). I’ve used public dcfc 4 times in 9 months with our ‘23 VW ID4 Standard (209 mile range), so I doubt that if we get a CPO SL Plus that the car would even ever NEED ChaDemo since it would be primarily the daily driver local car.
What a great Leaf story. I trip everywhere in the UK in my Leaf, mostly for work. As far south as London ~380mi a few times. PRO TIP based on the work of @LemonTeaLeaf; DC charge between 30-90% to slow the pack heating. It starts to ramp down over about 50% so doesnt cook as much. I get about 3 charges at decent rate without issue.
We are fairly well served still with Chademo here, being about 200mi from the Leaf european factory. Many of the big names (except ionity) are still installing new units with provision for Chademo, about a 3/8 unit ratio.
Keep advocating.
If we can do these kinds of trips in a Leaf, then anyone can live with a more modern EV surely!
Brava, Carolina 👏🏻👏🏻
I really love my 2018 Leaf. Nearly 3 years of ownership and only had to fast charge twice.
That's awesome!! I'm so glad you love your leaf like I love mine! I've fast charged so many times, and Also do not see any battery degradation 🫶 what a great "around town" car it is!!
Great idea guys! Looking forward to following this series
My wife and I day road trip the Mini Cooper SE (we went from LA to Vegas (my wife, my mom and I lol),
LA to San Diego, and
LA to Sovang, CA).
We want to road trip it to Yosemite.
Challenging, but so much fun!!🎉
I still say Nissan should continue to produce the LEAF for the future, but upgrade it with a 75 kWh battery, TMS, and a CCS/NACS connector. I put over 62K on my 2012 LEAF in over 6 years -and really miss it. They are useful, practical, easy-to-use, comfortable EVs. Do we really need more elaborate bells-and-whistles? I say NO.
Sad they only make 40KWH, especially the '21s had 62KWH batteries in it
Yeah more range would be sweet, but the 2024 leaf is 62k battery only 212 miles of range! not much change! I'd love the CCS/NACS connector !! would be game changer for my road trips!!🫶
That was a fun chat to listen to!
thank you
CCS is dying, too. Everyone, including Nissan, is moving to NACS... However, new CCS and CHAdeMO stations are still being built.
Awesome video
I do Ev repairs and I have a leaf 2022 and converted from 42 kw to 100 with Tesla quirks and features and solor panels with extra power
This video has a similar feel to when Out Of Spec Dave interviews other EV owners and their journeys 🤗
Tesla should open up 150kw superchargers to CHAdeMO users with an adapter since both use CAN buss communications to negotiate DC fast charging sessions.
Fast charging destroys leaf batteries because there's no thermal management
Caroline is an awesome EV ambassador! I love her sense of adventure. 😊
Thank you so much for your kind words!! 🫶👋🏼
While I love her enthusiasm, the Leaf is better suited for an around the town daily driver or a kid's car. There is truly no way I'd try to take one on any kind of road trip.
Well people said that about the bolt but people go across country and drive 4000 miles all the time
Kyle stop with the chademo is dead bull. You tell a leaf owner who knows that she can go all over with chademo. I have Done it for 8.5 years and we keep getting new chademo units all the time. Hampton inn in ohio just installed 2 ccs/chademo units at the hotel. You have been saying that for 3 years. And are as wrong as can be. I charged next to a Kia Soul ev driver with chademo.
@@markfitzpatrick6692 Just wait until I start reviewing chargers and they have chademo lol I can't wait, because I know of some charge point chargers!
Chademo is effectively dead in North America in reference to long term support. Who would spend $ to support a few dozen owners who road trip a Leaf vs millions of NACS cars on the road.
@@markfitzpatrick6692Agreed. Been using CHADEMO for 4 years.
Nissan Leaf is best EV.☺️👍⚡🚗
Yes, I enjoy my car, just a little bit haha!!
I j bought a used 2019 40kw leaf with 80k miles and just had a 420 mile road trip. The It’s fun driving it and can be done with planning. 😊 There are over 4,700 Chademo Chargers in the United States.
Fast charging is considered to be hard on the leaf battery.. detrimental to longevity
@@bobloblaw10001 I only fast charged it twice. Mostly level 1 and 2 charges in last 1,500 miles.
Thank you. I really enjoyed this. Did she mentioned if the battery in her Leaf has suffered and degradation, and if so, how much? I wondered about that considering the battery had some thermal issues.
Hello thanks for your question!! and No haven't had any battery degradation! Coming up on my 5yrs in SEPT 2024, I should include that on my channel!! considering all the fast charging I've done on road trips!!
@@carolinebray82that is so very reassuring. Since I learned about how EV batteries can suffer from degradation, I’ve been somewhat paranoid. Now I feel rather confident, thanks to you. Thank you so much. All the best with your channel and your LEAF.
The outlander is chataMo also
Great job Caroline!
Thanks Liv!! Miss you guys !! I hope to make it CA some day haha I'd totally love to be apart of Tesla Take over HAHA!!
@@carolinebray82 do it!
What type of portable power house generator works ??? I have a 2016 leaf.
What do you mean? Which house generator or are you wanting to power the house with the car?
Love her Enthusiasm.. however she has had alot of canundrums with it
Just noticed more Outlanders were sold than Leafs in Q3.
how's the sales now?!
Guess I should take look at the map to see where I can go with my Leaf with 50 mile range.
Plug share has lots of options, just plan a head, and especially if you have mountain terrain or wind and cold weather.. factors for sure. Happy Travels! 👋🏼
So many road trips in an EV with such a small 40 kWh battery. My e-Golf battery is 36 kWh, and I would be scared to take it on a 2 day road trip because charging stations are so unreliable.
Just lots of planning, where are you located? (if you don't mind me asking!!)
@@carolinebray82Vancouver Canada
@@jyrbm cool 😎 looks like there is a lot of charging in the city! Where did you want to go? I use PlugShare and google maps where ever I go!
👍👍😎✌️🤟
If she takes your Tesla she will be ruined for Leaf road trips. Once I got my MYLR , my Bolt became a city/day trip car.
and the time it took her to do so would have been HALF if she had a normal vehicle....
What's a normal vehicle? LOL👋🏼
"Drive Electric Events Are Great For Evangelists, But Need To Evolve" .......this is the one you were complaining about, right?
Drive electric events need an entire overhaul
@@KyleConnerWould love to hear your suggestions for what would make them better!
Believe me, I have a few ideas 😉
