- There's more than one way to enjoy this Hawaiian snack favorite!
Ingredients:
1 can Spam, sliced
3 cups cooked short grain rice
Nori sheets
2 tbsp soy sauce
2 tbsp sugar
Steps:
Mix soy sauce and sugar in a small bowl and set aside. Use kitchen scissors to cut nori sheets into thirds lengthwise.
Pan fry Spam slices, until lightly browned. Pour sauce over the slices, flip occasionally, and cook until caramelized. Set aside to cool.
Line Spam can with plastic wrap as a mold. Place some rice inside and press a Spam slice on top. Remove from mold and wrap with nori strip.
SPAM, EGG, AND CHEESE MUSUBI: Follow standard musubi steps, but add ketchup, cooked scrambled eggs, sliced cheese, Spam, and more rice. Wrap with nori.
KIMCHI MUSUBI: In a pan, stir fry chopped kimchi, kimchi juice, gochujang, cooked rice, sesame oil, scallions, and sesame seeds. Follow standard musubi instructions, also adding cucumber between the rice and Spam.
FRIED MUSUBI: Make standard musubi, but divide rice per musubi to sandwich the spam. Make spicy mayo by combining sriracha and mayo. Prep dredging bowls, one each for flour, egg, and panko breadcrumbs. Dip musubi in flour, then egg, and then panko. Fry on all sides until golden. Drain excess oil, slice in half, and top with spicy mayo and scallions.

"Little whisk! Little things still get stuff done" 😂😂😂 Jen is my favorite Tastemade host!
Jose Gonzalez agreed! Haha
everytime i get a little sad, i search jen phanomrat on youtube and bingewatch her videos, and i feel so energised and happy again, she's such a livewire she fires me up, I LOVE JEN!!! I wish I had a friend like Jen in real lifeeeeee!
I love Jen! Her personality is uplifting, her recipes are top-notch & I just absolutely adore her! ❤️
I live in Hawaii, there’s Musubis sold everywhere and saying it now: some of the best come from 7-11 hahah
What island
@@tonyscribner9196 Oahu
Nice. I was going to that island 🏝 this year until covid-19 ruined it. Hopefully I can come next year sometime 🙏
I agree! 7-11 is my go to musubi choice
Literally every family I knew growing up had a spam musubi mold. Using the can is a BRILLIANT substitute!
Tabasco spam musubi is the inevitable next level :D
I fallowed your recipe, made it, and added some avocado. It came out delicious. Thanks for sharing!
' Chef JEN Bonita, ' Once again you have done it. Creativity at its best. Just can't wait to try these out. But first, I will share. I first fell in love with Spam when I was in the 'Corps,' and stationed at KMCAS, Kaneohe, Hi. with 3rd. Marines. 1978-1982. My first Hawaiian love was a polynesian beauty; Hawaiian/Samoan mix. Every meal included Spam of some sort. It got to the point that even when I went out into the field or deployment my Spam and trusty bottle of Tabasco sauce went with me. To this day, Spam is included on my grocery list. These recipes are a pleasant addition. Thanx again 'Bonita!!'
Take care and GOD Bless!!!

Are you still married to her? I had a similar love story and I too lived in Kaneohe right outside the back gate! He was a marine too but we divorced 7 years later. I didn’t feed him spam though. Lol
good job jen!
I'm Korean, you had me at gochujang!
Ooooh the kimchi one looks awesome! Nice video!
I'm so going to try this today. Thanks for sharing.
Yeah... you go Girl....! Love it!
I tried it and it was sooo good
I love when Jen teaches me how to cook
The kimchi one sounds so good 😊
I picked up on musubi from the internet and introduced it to my family and friends. Half dislike it out of hand without trying it (aversion to either Spam or seaweed,) and half love it. Slowly but surely I'm changing the palates of small town West Texas. (Not really that much, though. Spam? Rice? Already there. It's pretty much just packaging. And nori.)
make sure it's Japanese nori im a local from hawaii and regular nori will break Japanese nori is what they use to make sushi etc
kimchi masubi baby! looks good
I grew up eating fried spam and its crazy watching youtubers fry it up and barely get any/just a lil color on it.. then I think that maybe if dozens do it that way maybe me and my family just like ours burnt 😂
Dakota Tutor i like mine little bit burned too more tasty that way :D
Nah I cook the heck out of mine, too! So much better. I think the word "carmalized" is thrown around too lightly on UA-cam lol.
But maybe soft cooked spam is better in this recipe? It might be too tough for the rice if it's browned.
I like my Spam well done too!!
Yup it needs that crisp factor otherwise it’s just mushy meat! We were so poor growing up we didn’t even have spam we had the generic Armour Treet. We called it “Treet Meat” 😂 we used to eat that stuff up! Now that I’m older and raising my kids I’m trying to sneak it in as musubi or I might make spam fried rice cause I know they won’t eat it by itself like we did. Kids nowadays don’t understand the struggle
Love it 🥰
Love spam and Spam musubi!!!
Another fantastic video
I just about died at "little things can still get the job done *wink*" omfg
😂
that's wonderful!
Dang I never thought of using the spam can as a mold for the Musubi.
You are awesome. Love your video, thanks for sharing...
Smart, witty, cultured, beautiful...she's got it all.
I’m from Hawaii and I’ve never thought of using the can as a mold. We always had musubi molds 😱 so smart!!
Great video! Thank you!
I made it and its sooooooo goood !!!!
I love Jen!!!!

Yummy 🤤
More Jen!! 💙💙
Perfection!!! Exactly what this un-Hawaiian turned un-Texan was craving. Did you have a website called "JustJenDesigns" or something like that about 12 years ago? Some of my favorite recipes came from there and one was butter mochi if I remember right where I got that recipe. You/she also had stained glass jello, which I have yet to make but have meant to do for years. Thank you for this recipe (and so many others).
Love this! Thank you!
i like ur mini whisk hihi...
I soooo wantt those bamboo tongs. Whereeee??
The Spam, egg and cheese musubi would be a hit in my home state of New Jersey because of its resemblance to the Taylor ham, egg and cheese on a roll, as it's known in North Jersey. In South Jersey, it's called a pork roll, egg and cheese, or P.E.C.
The meat actually comes from the capital city of Trenton, courtesy of the Taylor Provisions Company. Jersey folk might like the seaweed because we're a maritime state with a proud nautical heritage....at least along the shoreline from Sandy Hook to Cape May!
Omg i HAVE to try thisss!!❤️
I love your video on how to make musubis! However I can’t get the consistency right for the rice. I used calrose short grain rice. It came out mushy! Do you have any suggestions on how to cook the rice. I know it’s a little different from regular rice.
Ohhhh Jen, I so want to try them now !!! You make them look so tasty and stuff...
...WOW!!....
O my g o o d n e s s ..your gorgeous and so adorable! 😍🤩😎 love spam musubi.
Jen❤️
You’re awesome !
I'm so glad I found your page. Your so confident and curvy and it makes me feel more confident in my curvyness too. Like I shouldn't be ashamed I love food and food loves me lol. Your look gorgeous and the musubi looks so yummy!
Jen~NEVER has Spam looked so enticing! That last one tho~*drool drool *
The other Jenn (with two n's) in Canada 🍁
rhijulbec1 I wanna try that recipe, thanks love you
Doris Macaling
Maybe hold off for a bit. 250,000 lbs of SPAM have been recalled for metal shards in the meat.
Jenn 💖 in Canada 🍁
Does anyone know if you have to eat it hot? Or if u can microwave it later for a lunch? Or if u can eat it cold?
you can even do chicken or hotdog :::::)))
spam musubi is one of my all time favorite foods throughout my entire life
you can add teriyaki sauce to spam musubis
with your soy sauce mixture, add 1 part soy sauce, 1 part sugar and 1 part mirin. the mirin is important to help temper the sugar and salt.
Be careful using the can as a mold. I sliced up my fingers and didn't know it until I saw red! I bought a mold so that I can still enjoy this snack without worrying about getting cut. Thanks for the different recipes.
@Latte Brown, yes. According to Jeanelle Castro, they sell those Spam musubi molds all over Hawaii, just like they sell containers for those 1.3L bags of milk in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
I'm about to fry some spam musubi TO👏🏽MOR👏🏽ROW👏🏽
Yummmmm
Can u use normal rice to make it?
😍😍😍
You need your own channel!
little things can still get the job done! hahahahaha
I’ve never had spam and I’m really afraid that I’ll like it 😂
I must resist going to the corner store for some SPAM... MUST-RESIST.. #wantsallthat
DO IT.
LOL literally redefines what a sandwich is.
Every time I add the sauce to the pan it ends up burning and making the sauce crunchy and flaky., I cook on med heat as well. Should I switch to a lower heat once adding the sauce?
Yeah, or turn off the heat completely
well the stove shouldn't be high it should be low and dont leave it in there for too long! but you can also do another way where you can heat up the sauce for a bit in the micro and pour a little bit on the rice and spam :)
hope this helps
-stranger from Hawaii
yeeeeeEEesssSSSS spam is so good
Delicious. Collab with Jen & Maangchi
Wonder if eel sauce could be subbed for the aloha shoyu? Anybody tried it?
Try it using the can as mold. If you like it, as I did, then spend the $8 on a mold. It's worth it.
I love spam
I think the reason I don’t like Spam is because my family never cooked. Didn’t know it was an option, especially with Vienna sausages.
I want that rice cooker! Someone help please!
Omg😀
God Jen YOU are so 😍😍pretty 😍😍
Original Hawaiian and Original S-Musubi
Actually laughed for the remaining 3 minutes of this video after the wish comment with the tiny wisk. Ded
Has anyone tried adding some wasabi
correction a local food in hawaii :)
Do you season the rice? Like reg sushi rice ?
Lexy Medina Nope
I love watching this lady!! It was quite.. Hmm.. Fun?ꉂꉂ(ᵔᗜᵔ*)
Chubby cheeks so cute
The kimchi rice one looks straight gas
Hey Asian Monique
Soy sauce + Red Bull (Kratingdaeng).
That is the smallest whisk I've ever seen.
>ketchup and eggs
Runied the episode tbh
I love you Jen but its not mu-subi. More like moo-soo-bee. If you are sounding it out lol.
It’s Musu-bi. Not Mu-subi.
It's LeviOsa, Not leviosA!
Looks too salty!
Everytime she pronounced musubi and nori wrong I cringed
