Bought the same Midas as your good self brother. I work in the box but have been doing a load of Dubs and bought the desk mostly for this purpose. The desk reminds me of an API desk, very solid sound and warm. Nice one brother.
Same exact here! Mostly in the box, but definitely great console for dub applications! I’m sure it’d be great for recording an entire band. Would definitely be usable
Aloha Wahoo I would say with any analog EQ, if you boost it enough, it can potentially add some noise, especially if you boost the top end. With that said however, I wouldn’t say the EQ nor the channels are “noisy” by any means, so the short answer to your question is “BS” 👍
@Aloha Wahoo For what you get back with hands mixing, the noise for me is a mute argument. You could argue this is intrinsic to the sound of analog, look at tape head emulators, they give you the choice of adding these artifacts. Recorded several bands through this desk, while not going near my Neve, Focusrite or 610s.
Great info as always. Thank you. Makes me want to go out and buy a huge board, some pedals a.d a flight to visit you to tell me again what to do with it all. Lol

You could have any combination of channels see either analog in/out or firewire in/out at your discretion. There was the F16, F24, and F32 versions. Around the time Midas was purchased by Behringer, these were discontinued. It has made my workflow and ability to use outboard gear much easier. You do need a firewire card for your computer - cheap and easy.
with the firewire card, did you have any issues with connecting the direct ins/outs or latency issues? i’m considering purchasing for a hybrid system w/ Pro Tools on Windows 10.
@@DipwillisBored No latency issues. I use this with a PC and Windows 10 but wouldn't use an OS before Windows 10. It has interfaced with my ProTools and Digital Performer just fine, day after day for 7 years now. The key to using this as a studio console is to solo the stereo bus fader and feed your monitor speakers with the "local" outputs. This enables you to adjust the listening volume with the "local monitor knob" independently of the master fader. If and when this board dies, I'm getting another just like it.

I recently picked up a Venice f32 for a good price and I love this desk already, sounds so good and feels great but have been having trouble setting up my VST and Hardware effects. I have been through the manual a couple of times but still having trouble, I hope you can help. When setting up a VST effect I have the Aux 1-2 enabled in the FireWire output section which overrides one of the stereo channels (25-26). On Aux 1 & 2 in the output section I have pressed in the aux c/o switches. Do I use channels 25-26 to send audio to Ableton? In Ableton I have a track with my external in from 25-26, I add a VST plugin to that channel and then set the output to another channel (not 25-26) does this sound right or am I missing something? When using hardware effects do I send signal out directly from the Aux channel via the XLR aux connection or a am I missing something? Any help with this would be much appreciated man, spent a substantial bit of time trying to solve this and could really do with some steer, Big Ups Trev
Hey man, I think we should link up on messenger or something. I think a phone call would be easier to describe the particulars. Great video man! I'm looking to get some gear to do some live dub as you do but I only use virtual instruments and effects. Do you think is worth getting a mixer like this and start building hybrid analog/digital set up? Or better go for a DAW controller?
That is a great question that I pondered got a very long time before purchasing the Midas. Dub Mixing in the box is super buggy in my experience. That was a long time ago though, maybe things are better now or perhaps on other daws. You honestly can’t go wrong either way though, the importance is just making the music and enjoying the journey. I was planning on getting an MTK22 before I grabbed the Midas used for an extremely low price on Craigslist. But if I were to stay in the box I’d probably get something like the Behringer faders or maybe a Presonus. Hope my comment has been helpful
hey bro: do you can record multitrack with this mixer venice f32? i have logic pro x and I want to record drums with her, What do you think, it is used for that before buying it???
That is EXACTLY the type of set-up I'm after but I'm a wee bit confused. I was always led to believe that Firewire is a much slower and limited track-wise protocol then USB 2/3 and I seem to remember you could only work with two tracks of audio at a time with a usb mixer so I don't understand how you can control your whole mix using the Firewire protocol. I've seen an A&H mixer that can mix with midi...So I guess my question is, can this sort of hybrid DAW/console set-up work with a usb enabled mixer?? Also a list of your gear would be great. Thanks.
Hey Pat, happy to answer any questions. So my Mac is a 2010 i7 with 32gigs of ram. Old but fully loaded for its day. It’s important to understand the limitations of your gear so you can utilize it fully. I don’t think FireWire is bad by any means of you have a decent computer backing it. The important thing here to realize you can’t really use virtual instruments (or at least very few) if you’re planning on using the in and out in the daw. But that’s an easy fix, you just bounce them down to audio files and bake in the processing before routing to and from the board. To my knowledge, this bad boy can record 24 tracks (and 32 on the bigger version of this board) at a time. I’ve successfully been able to dub 20 full tracks out and even record 8 tracks in at once. It’s pretty spectacular man. I honestly need to do more dubs! Let me know if you have more questions, happy to help. Cheers 🍻
And yes, a USB setup of this same thing should absolutely be doable. It’s more the ram and CPU than the FireWire/USB. I mean if you were doing 192kbs maybe then it’d be a bottle beck.... but at 48kbs it’s totally fine, USB and FireWire.
@@DMKahn Cool. I need to really invest in my set-up because a mouse is not conducive to the dub lol!! Difficult when you are skint all the time though. I've looked at going the custom build midi controller option but them boys ain't cheap either. I like what you do soundwise, it is far closer to the Roots side of it then what I do ( which is very digital/minimal stylee ..NOT chiptune but touching on it at times..I was brought up on On-U Sounds and 1984 -91 is the era I'm most passionate about ). Respect
Do you got any recommendations on mixing consoles equal to the Midas? I’m using win10 and Cubase. It seems like there’s no daw-controller with more than 1 knob per channel i could control the send-effects with. It seems like it’s not that easy to get a stable connection with the Midas and win10. What OS do you use? Do you recommend to buy the Midas Venice F nowadays?
There’s nothing quite like the Midas because of its IO and routing capabilities (true channel line ins/outs, inserts etc). The only real downside (but not a dealbreaker to me anyways) is the FireWire IO. I had to buy $100 worth of adapters but I am successfully running a newer Mac mini and Mojave. Not sure about PC at all. Anyways a modern alternative that’s pretty cool is the Soundcraft MTK22. It has a lot of the same functionality.cheers
@@DMKahn hi just got an f24 , i know im going to have to roll my os back from big sur to mojave but could you let me know what adapters you are using please. i need to get from firewire to thunderbolt 3 but from what ive read its not as simple as a straight adapter. thankyou in advance
Hey Kahn great video again thx. My question is, is there a comparable mixer to the Midas you use that is usb and functions the same way? (With Logic) Also does one exist for under $1,000? 16 to 32 channel would be ideal. What brands do you recommend? Give thx
The only I know who have an interface who work on all channels in this price range is the soundcraft mtk22, who cost ~800€ Good mixer but his preamps, eq, and design are not in the same quality level of the Midas in this video
Thanks Carmelo. Are you talking about latency? I have the latency set to 64 which only results in something like 13 milliseconds which isn’t too terrible of latency. Obviously if I have a bunch of VSTs in the session it would result in pops and clicks so i make sure it’s only audio files. Hope this helps
@@DMKahn Yes. I have the F32. I use the FW to get the audio track from Ableton back to the mixer. BUT when I do this with the AUX1 (Delay), the return are in sync when I dont use the FW on them :)
Sounds great the way you use it too and the filter over the reverb is classic dub technique, suppose you could use a synth with an input to access its filter if you don't have a stand alone filter.
Yeah man! I did a ton of research before deciding on the El Cap for my life dubbing duties. There are a lot of good ones out there, but I find this one will be perfect for my uses. It has a very high fidelity but has tape vibes. I know it sounds contradictory but it just works! Lol
No it doesn’t overwrite the multi tracks, I route the “live composition” tracks to group 1-2 and 3-4 and record those back into logic “cooked together”... no I don’t need an interface, the console is my interface :) hope i answered your questions

Alec Armbruster thanks bro! Yes, it’s quite old and FireWire is a dying I/O for sure. I actually traded a guitar for it... the guitar was maybe worth $700US, if that. The guy was desperate to get rid of it and always wanted a strat 😂👌. This Midas console was made before Behringer purchased the company. So yeah if I eventually have to ditch the FireWire capabilities (which I don’t plan on anytime soon) I can always use an interface with enough I/O. Cheers bud!
Great video!!! Can you tell me if the Midas Venice U32 works the same as the F32 does it? In that case... It's possible to do a 10-channel multitrack live session recording with the U32? I also work with Logic Pro X and i'm in search of a new multitrack mixer and i saw a Venice U32, but I didn't find any review about it... Thank you!
It looks like the u32 doesn’t have the same I/O connectivity as the F32. I think it only has 8 tracks of I/O. You can certainly use it but you’d probably need an additional interface with more channels of I/O

Really dope video man. I was wondering if I could heed the same results but on a much smaller scale with something like the Mackie ProFX12v2 12-Channel Professional Effects Mixer with USB?
I’m not familiar with that console but I imagine it would be similar. Probably not as flexible with regards to routing but you could still do dubs with it!
@@DMKahn awesome thanks
awesome man!
Aloha from hawaii, what unit is that guitar pedal used for delay so you dont have to buy reampbox
Jorge Luz Cisneros it’s the Strymon El Capistan! Cheers
Great video and tutorial... Trev
Amazing music man.
Dub Master - Love your channel man, many thanks for all the great insights. I have a couple of questions I was hoping you could help me with?
There's different ways of doing it, but basically you should be able to route in and out of Ableton using the board's channel directly. Hit me up on facebook "dm kahn" on messenger or instagram @dm_kahn
DM Kahn Yes yes! This is awesome Chris and I would love to connect on a messenger call, your help would be deeply appreciated. I will reach out to you on messenger so we can figure out a convenient time for you 👍
Hi man what is your take on the Midas u32? , I have a chance of wrapping one. I don't know if it compares to the f32 sonically
Not sure man, sorry!
Awesome vid!
Thanks!
Greetings King, nuff respect. I love your setup. I have a similar workflow. Whats the name of the filter you using?
It looks like a Westfinga.
Indeed it is
Bless DM Kahn... What re-amp are yu using here?
Bless up brother, I use the DIYRE reamp, the $50 one
@@DMKahn Give Thanks. That will help to get my filter working? I am mixing with a zed r16.
Can you route vsts through the sends on the desk?
I did that on this video a
Great video man!
I just recently moved away from DAW and realized how big of difference there is in the warmth of analog counsel.
Are there any mixers that use USB-C? Since I have a new MacBook it's a hassle using the firewire output I have on my Midas F
Not sure about USB C but definitely USB 2 like the MTK22
Any suggestion for a small interface with like 8 channels? i just dont have place for sth that big. And does that work with USB mixers?
I'd suggest the Soundcraft MTK12
hey bro:
do you can record multitrack with this mixer venice f32?
i have logic pro x and I want to record drums with her, What do you think, it is used for that before buying it???
Absolutely. I record my drums with my F24 all the time.
@@DMKahn thanks men
That is EXACTLY the type of set-up I'm after but I'm a wee bit confused.
Respect
That console sounds sweet. Could you connect it the same way with Pro Tools?
I'm sure, definitely
Get as many adapters as you need. I went from Fw to TB1, TB1 to TB2.
Always good vids. Did you program the hand drums or actually play them?
A. Stockton thanks! That’s my kete drum that I recorded live in one take.
A. Stockton the cowbell and tambourine are just single recordings looped though
Hey Kahn great video again thx. My question is, is there a comparable mixer to the Midas you use that is usb and functions the same way? (With Logic) Also does one exist for under $1,000? 16 to 32 channel would be ideal. What brands do you recommend? Give thx
The only I know who have an interface who work on all channels in this price range is the soundcraft mtk22, who cost ~800€
Good mixer but his preamps, eq, and design are not in the same quality level of the Midas in this video
Plan on picking up an F32, is this compatible with OS 10.15 Catalina?
Yeah it is
Nice vidéo, how can you handle delay return when you send it back to the Midas ? There is a bit of delay, no ? :) Cheers
Interesting! I haven’t really experienced noticeable latency. Maybe it has to do with the settings in your DAW.
@@DMKahn possible yes. Trying to use it with my Apollo 8x
bro, you llok like that DJ called Eats Everything
are you calling me fat? 🤣
I see the Strymon El Capistan to the left of the mixer there......:)
Lol
Nice! :)
What do you think about U24 ?
I have never used it, so I’m not sure!
Hi. What o.s and drivers are you using mate?
Mojave. The last ones available from the Midas website
@@DMKahn thank you appreciated
Hey man, I'm thinking of buying a mixer like yours. What do you think of the quality of the pre-amps?
They are very good!!
@@DMKahn I know the Venice is Midas lower level consoles, but are the pre-amps lower level as well?
I have not notice a lack of quality with regards to any part of the Midas Venice F24.
@@DMKahn sweet. Thanks man.
any chance the midas work with a m1 mac?
That’s a negative
How do you record all the changes back into the DAW?
Using the console‘s FireWire inputs
@@DMKahn Thanks for your reply. So if you make changes, you just overwrite the multitracks?
@@DMKahn Also u don't need a Audio Interface this way right?
No it doesn’t overwrite the multi tracks, I route the “live composition” tracks to group 1-2 and 3-4 and record those back into logic “cooked together”... no I don’t need an interface, the console is my interface :) hope i answered your questions
You smokin that good ganga mon. (oh, it goes out of,.....no...wait....in goes....in yeah.....oh, yeah back into channel 15, no wait.....into the return track....channel 16, just a cheap pedal, $15, no maybe $45......
Nah… I’m just not very articulate haha
do you know if its possible to link to a UAD interface ?
I don’t see why not, but I don’t know for sure. I don’t have any UAD gear,
Yo DM K. First off, great video as always. Second, I've heard great things about the Midas consoles. The F24 is quite a few years old now, isn't it? If so, did you happen to pick it up a good price (sub $1K / 1.6K USD/CAD?)
Cheers bud!
@@DMKahn You got an amazing deal. Wow. Keep that Midas till it croaks!
Nice
Great video!!! Can you tell me if the Midas Venice U32 works the same as the F32 does it? In that case... It's possible to do a 10-channel multitrack live session recording with the U32?
I also work with Logic Pro X and i'm in search of a new multitrack mixer and i saw a Venice U32, but I didn't find any review about it...
Thank you!
It looks like the u32 doesn’t have the same I/O connectivity as the F32. I think it only has 8 tracks of I/O. You can certainly use it but you’d probably need an additional interface with more channels of I/O
@@DMKahn So, seems like it's much better to use the F32 than the U32, thank you
Yes I’d say so.
Good Jobs Boss Done Subs 👍
