Topics discussed:
1. Swing vs Straight
2. Multiple sample velocity and varying samples
3. The "reggae roll" shown in the piano roll
4. Adding variation
5. Adding drum fills/rolls
6. And a little bit of dub because, why not?

This man deserves all the success ❤️
he has a place in the garden Heaven in Jan Glory, this man is not Human himself HE IS JUST REGGAE IN FORM OF HUMAN
I AM BLESSED I FIND THIS CHANNEL
Hi bro, I do have a place in heaven, secured by the blood of Jesus the Lamb. God has given me gifts and talents and I am blessed to share them with the world through my reggae music, but know it comes from Christ Jesus 🙏
@@DMKahnyour god is a lamb??
The lamb who was slain
@@DMKahnwhich reverb use on the drum ?
I learned more in this video than the 100 tutorials before it about reggae and the one drop. I can't thank you enough!
Kahn has the best tutorial on youtube
Period!!!
have to disagree its not really a tutorial.... its just showing what he did, not how to achieve it for yourself (unless you already have the knowledge of building the drum track....) a good turorial would start with an empty track and show you the process so def not the best on you tube by a long shot
I think he was referring to my channel, not this specific video. Go check out my video “make a reggae song in one hour”... I start from scratch and show you how to program the drums. Thanks for your comment and stopping by the channel Richard!
@@DMKahn please which drums vst did u used, especially for the snare roll

Thanks man 🙏
Sent you an email. Bless
dude , for a punk rock player as i am , but a reggae lover. Learning the details of the groove was a game changing for me. You deserve a big kiss....
You have a great knowledge of the music, I send you greetings from Jamaica
Many thanks Michael, thank you for taking the time to comment, much respect 🫡
Brilliant ! Most of the other tutorials dont talk about that swing at all, and especially the details of that swung note - brilliant!!
6:25 LOL! This reminds me of my own reggae producing. Thanks for the great and awesome tutorials! i've learned a lot!
lol same here....the swing factor on hardware sequence is a challenge...but keep trying mat. keep on keeping on.
Thanks man. Was dreaming exactly of that reggae / dub instrments tutorial. Gonna spend day playing my forever loving music : REGGAE. Thank you so much.
Your videos never fail to provide knowledge and inspiration. Big up!
I have been getting getting into Psy Dub A LOT of late.
I love the Combo of psycadellic aprs & the Regge swing & groove.
with it using a LOT of the core of Regge finding your channel has opened my eyes to the bases of how this is all put together.
I'm looking for some more info on using a tape delay & the spring verb.
so I will be scouring your channel!
Bravo, bravo. This example when the bass is quantized is cool to me. I like that.
Well its still as good as it was a couple of years ago, but now I'm listening in a different way. I have a cajon with two mics and plugged into an AC33 Roland acoustic amp. The way you describe what you're doing is great. I'm learning and playing reggae music and its great. Thanks again
DM Kahn best reggea channel. thanks for sharing
Awesome tutorial and like the fact you can hear the different between with and without the swing. Both sound cool but love it with the swing, which is a real flowing vibe
I use fl studio. Started just making simple back band music for me playing the Hammond and end up composing (or trying) whole tracks. Love your channel!
The sample kit is phenomenal, I look forward to learning more from you! Mahalo & Aloha Khan!
Many thanks John for your support, I’m glad you’re enjoying the sample pack!
Really really good. Really enjoyed this. Thanks
Je viens de découvrir ta chaine bro. Je me suis abonné de suite sans réfléchir. Bravo pour ton taf. je te suis désormais.
You are a god. Please keep these coming. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Not a god, but loves God!
You are best ever you make real sound raggae music.
Real drums good base keep it up
The best on the Web... Thanks for the drums you re-send me ... in 2022.
Recently I recorded my own kick. I was thinking about what to use at home. I tried a laundry basket and recorded 12 sounds with it via microphone. It worked out pretty well!
More times you have to go back to class 🎓👍🏾✅✌🏾
Every video I’ve watch so far everything I’ve learnt from this dub master. Humble and open true credit to the reggae industry blessssed
Glad I find you! Hard to find quality reggae production channel like yours.

You explained it pretty well ,appreciate your effort ❤
This channel's content is what I need, thanks!
Cheers!!
Love the Drum sample bro 😁
Solid beat
NICE ONE. SUPER
Great tutorial man! I especially appreciate the time you spent discussing how to and the importance of swing. And though I already knew the importance of swing, it I could never seem to get it right. And end up settling with some crappy robotic swing, or something like that. Thanks a bunch..
I just discovered your channel and boss, this is sweet. I was looking for reggae horns. You just got a new follower. Great stuff, man. I’m gonna check out your drum loops.
Wowwww! Amazing video, bro. And what a difference it makes without the robotic quantize. You really know your reggae. Love your work. Keep ut up.
Thank you brother 🙏
Sure bro. Coming to you straight from Saint Lucia (Caribbean). 🇱🇨
It's a lot of work though. You clearly work hard and that's great.
Wow!
Amazingly beautiful tutorial.
Khan you’re the best, major talent and hard work
loving you channel.

Great reggae producer. Up up up!
🙏🙏🙏
Man it sounds great! Thank you for the video
great video DM the swing does make a world a difference
enjoy and learn! many thanks, great tutos
Love it..real this is reagge soud💚💛❤️
Thanks!!
I thought both swings sounded amazing lol. The straighter one sounded like the wailers 😎
Finally a new video! i learn soo much from you. Many THANKS!! by the way could you do a mixing tutorial with only waves plugins ? keep it up :)
Hey bro! I think I used exclusively waves plugins back a couple years ago on my "Kahn's Reggae Production Corner" video series. Lately I've been using lots of different manufacturers. I love Slate Digital and have been dipping my toes into the Brainworx stuff. I would say don't worry about manufacturer, more so on the mix principals and theory!
Man, that is great amount of wisdom you shared! Thanks!
You’re very welcome, thanks for your support D👑K
Great tutorial! Loved it at the end, when you started to Dub it up! Carry on these great tutorials. Peace
thank you for this. Very helpful. Very happy I found this channel. Bless!
My pleasure, thanks for the support!!
This is really good, pure feeling
Another great video! Super informative. Thank you for your time and energy in creating these. I learn from every one. I was cracking up when you started doing the robot to the quantized groove.
Thank you for your support! Lol I crack myself up sometimes. My wife makes fun of me
Major Respect bro! Love your tutorials. I was curious how you got that tone in your drums (specifically the snare drum in the roll). I've been tryna adjust the settings on my drum kits in Logic Pro X to the best of my ability, but yours have that authentic, Carlton Barrett sound.
Thanks Daylen. I went as far as buying the exact type of snare drum Carlton used, and through much trial and error, finally got “the sound”. I’m not sure I’m going to reveal the secret 🤫 lol. I sell a sample pack with the one shots you heard in this video though. Email me at thekahn@gmail.com for info. Cheers
@@DMKahn merci pour cette leçon,

The king of Reggae production ! hahha
Hardly lol.
@@DMKahn close to, man. No one on youtube makes as good, true and clean sounding reggae as you do. You NAIL the mix!
Bro, this is another great tutorial. I also get used to straight, cos sometimes i just play the melodies and don't pay enough attention to the swinging part. Great explanation! Thanks bro. And I also to get back at your last comment; i think you contribute to the genre also as a king. Big up and blessings.
🙌
I kinda like it both ways swingy and on time heavy
joseph pablo big up buddy. I think for rockers stuff it sounds good straight; but for that marley style it ain’t no thang without that swang 😂
why don’t you do both🤷🏾♂️
If I wasn’t already subscribed, that robotic sound dance at 6:30 would have done it for me 😅
Production sounds good 🤜🏾💯

Thanks 🙏 !!
Thanks DM Kahn
Superb🙌🏿👏🏼🔥
Great tutorial! My favorite part is where you explain the drum roll at 7:00 :)
That roll is everything in reggae!!
Excellent Tut Khan!
Thanks brother 🙏
great tutorial...much respect! ( so hard to duplicate it on hardware sequencer ( elektron Rytm) tho...just cant get that swing on hi hats)
If I can ask: I'm still learning to use a DAW. Reggae interests me so I watch your videos with great interest. I'm playing around with "swing" in the DAW and have an understanding of what it does.
But it's not clear from your video whether it's only necessary to add the "swing" value to things like the hi hats. I don't see the reason to add it to the kick drum on a basic one drop... why or how would it "swing" the kick and snare?
Do we just add the swing to the bits that matter, and leave the rest of the percussion alone? If or if not, would you be kind enough to explain?
Great tutorial
one love ! fiiireeeeeee
Give thanks!
merci cher ami
DOPE! I have to learn English to follow you
