Hello! I am a working mom also and I am also thinking of getting the DVDs. I have done homeschooling parent led with a different curriculum and I loved the one on one time with my child . . . With the DVDS, can you give more insight of how that looks? In my head, I am thinking she will be looking at a screen all day. Please!
Hi there! Well with the dvds we still can do one on one with the kids. We do the independent study (unaccredited) so with that we get a lot of flexibility in how we do things and I feel that we get the opportunity to work with the kids one on one often. I don’t feel like they are on the screen all the time. The kids both watch the full Bible classes, langue/writing, social studies and science. However, for our son in 6th grade when it comes to math, depending on the concept, sometimes my husband teaches him the lesson instead. Other times he watches the bulk portion of the lesson and then finishes the rest without the video. Our 1st grader always watches phonics and sometimes the math. The math since is so early on sometimes we feel very confident about it and just teach it to her along with the workbooks pages. Sometimes though, she does watch the math classes. It really just depends. I teach the reading lessons with both my kids. It’s what I taught as a teacher for many years and it’s a subject that I really teaching. Typically, I do reading with them after I get home from work and dinner is being cooked 🤗 I hope this gives a little insight and I hope to make a new DITL video sometime soon 🤗
Awesome. We are half homeschooling this year as I had to work as full time teacher. Next year, we plan to do full homeschool and use some Abeka. This was helpful ❤
This is wonderful! It will definitely give you an idea of what will work and not work for your family when you start to homeschool fully! When we first started with my daughter in k4, that's how we did it too. We just started homeschooling her gradually until we went all in. I'm a teacher too 🤗 (an ESL teacher) It's a great curriculum, we are now on our third year using them and our kids really enjoy it. 🤗
I have a first grader next year too. She’s my youngest. We’ve never actually used Abeka. I find it confusing on all the pieces you need to purchase. It’s nice to see it all laid out.

Did you also get the Parent Kit? Or is that different from you have?
The parent kit is different, I believe that’s for parent led. I got the Abeka Academy full grade video and books. It comes with everything all in one. The students materials, videos, and parent materials 🙂

Yes, you are pretty much renting out the DVDs at the end they give you a paid shipping label to send the back. You also have the choice to do streaming instead.
Hi. In our elementary years, we used Abeka. They are known for a strong language arts presence. I miss these younger elementary years. My kids are tween/teens now and I'm also enjoying these years. 🌻
