    You really get a prospective on how small Navi 10 is when you see the die is very close to the size of a GDDR6 module. I'm used to seeing LaVideo dies looking like the size of a slice of toast.

    • @wewillrockyou1986
      @wewillrockyou1986 5 років тому +3

      Yup, this is why i find it incredible that people are making a massive fuss about it not having much thermal headroom on ambient... These things use under 150w clocked at well over 1550MHz... They should be compared against the 2060 and 1660ti rather than the rebadged 2080, and they probably will when bigger navi dies drop (2x the size of navi 10 is definitely on the table)

      @@puertadlm163 I think somebody describer that xx50 cards would be refreshes but I'd say *at least* one bigger GPU is coming and I wouldn't be surprised if even bigger ones came up. The real question now is how much is NV rekt by those cards and if they'll have a sufficient answer for that

    • @Tiki832
      @Tiki832 5 років тому +2

      @@TheHighborn But late on this but it's not "Almost" half the size. It's smaller than half the size.
      2070 Super has a die size of 545mm.
      5700XT has a die size of 251mm.
      But that's typically been the case with AMD for some years now, their CPU dies have typically been smaller than Nvidias even across Polaris which had die sizes smaller than the current Navi10 (Exception is the GTX 1060 which I vaguely recall was mostly equivalent in die size).
      It's just that before Ryzen shifted peoples perception of AMD, the majority of people outside of tech enthusiasts didn't care to actually look at the finer details. Now that mass perception of the company is shifting, more people are actually taking in the specific details that have always been there.

    "Massive overkill" at "a significant price premium" is not a good thing, at least not for most people. It's mostly just an excuse to make more expensive products and higher profits, and I guess it's partially just a way for Asus to market its more mainstream designs with the "halo" effect. Most people who buy these aren't actually going to be interested in doing any extreme overclocking, and I highly doubt that extreme overclocking would be worth doing anyway.

      So reviews are out and you can look them up, but for what i know right now is the card gets 77°C max and the VRM is getting cooled this time around, but i dont know the exact VRM temps.

      From what I've seen Navi's Achilles heel in terms of performance scaling through overclocking is lack of sufficient memory bandwidth, the GDDR6 chips used for at least the reference cards don't really go higher than 900-910mhz (stock is 875mhz so it's literally just a 400-450mhz memory overclock overall)

    One major issue with this card HUGE price premium over the reference design. Here in Sweden it seems to be over $140 above reference design and at that price it cost more then reference 2070 Super so not worth it since 2070 Super is slightly faster and AMD will probably soon release a 5800 card that will be in those price ranges. AIB cards for the 5700XT are only interesting if they are below $450.

So if you only care about cooling & cost, (not design language, not much higher quality and costlier pcb or extra headroom for extreme oc), then sapphire cards are the way to go.
