And this is why I went with a regular Granit XPlus. I thought an alarmed lock seemed like a good idea until I saw it has no mechanical lock. A 100db alarm is kinda snake oil anyway. If someone can sit there 5 minutes cutting the lock with an angle grinder (also about 100db) and not get stopped, they won't get stopped due to the alarm either.
But the biggest benefit of the Smartlock is it has no cylinder. So no lockpicking possible. Lockpicking an Abus takes about 30sec. for any Professional...
Doesn’t this lock have a alarm on it so it would be making a lot more noise then just the angle grinder alone? I don’t think a thief would do it if it took that much time
Bought mine back in September 2020 and this week it would refuse to charge (app shows it charging but battery meter remains at 0%). Having read all mixed comments, I guess it's dead and will return to the shop where I bought it... :(
Hi, I have the same issue, tried to charge it with the USB-C port : useless. Did you contact ABUS before you cut it ? I don't know how to use an angle grinder. Can't they send somebody to do that ?
No abus won't help you directly. You need to contact the shop where you bought the lock from and tell them what happened. My shop refunded me the price of the lock + the money to hire a man with an angle grinder.
@@76gilliatt I'm curious.. Do you live in a rainy city? Because I disassembled my lock apart and it turned out the electronics were soaking wet from inside.
Unfortunately yes. It even happened with my second lock I bought but thankfully it wasn't locked on the bike. I returned it and got a refund and purchased a 3rd one and it has been good so for for over 6 months now.
@@dadoda yeah unfortunately it's the best thief deterrent so far. I had an email exchange with abus and they kind of acknowledged that they had a quality assurance problem that is solved now.
Mohamed Hazem thank you for your answer. It’s difficult to believe that they acknowledged the problem and didn’t do a recall on this product. Hard to trust that company
No lock can stand an angle grinder. Maybe one but it is so massive and heavy that you can't take it with you. Usually when talking about security it is against lockpicking thieves. I can assure you this lock is very hard to unpick
Looks like a strong lock

@@lexipunkthpunkt But how many u locks (or pad locks) are being picked today with any success?
The best option is to basically buy a Hiplock D1000 and thats all

thank you. Just bought one.
I was considering buying this lock. I don't anymore. Thx for the video!
Thank you for posting this
A lot of useful info in this video
Still trying to figure out, if I should get one... Would you recommend it?
Or is it good to use just in dry weather?
Only dry weather
Do you do all your angle grinding at night Mohamed?
Between 2-4am is the best time. To avoid distraction and interruption :)
seems solid to me.

This is why o bought a hiplock D1000
Oh no, should I buy it now or wait? Did ABUS recall the 770A SmartX products for this design flaw?

@@KVirus Yes I do - it may be the problem. But it shouldn't : rain happens in Europe.
@@76gilliatt that's what I told abus on the phone.
Yikes, no wonder why it's so hard to find them sold anymore except for on Amazon with mixed reviews.
Why did the alarm not go off?
Do you still use this lock? Any issues with the 3rd one? Thinking of getting this but for indoor use only.
For indoor use, it is very good. Otherwise, go with the regular granit xplus
I have the same issue, tried everything. Is it the only solution ? (mine has 1 month and half too)

@@dadoda I feel you
This lock is NOT water-proof. If you leave it out in the rain it will break. For a $200+ lock that's a ridiculous oversight.
Exactly!
😲
Or you could have charged it using the USB-C port. The battery charge is supposed to last two to three months.
I tried everything.. It was completely dead.
nothing against akkuflex
Did you get a refund?
I sent it back to the online shop I got it from and they sent the lock back to Abus and still waiting on them to get back to me.
Why wasn’t the alarm going off?
@@KVirus When you say it stopped working, are you sure it didn't just run out of battery?
@@Lemmings72 because the lock was stuck in "transport" mode and not "monitor" mode

The Alarm is not set. u cabt move the lock like this without the Alarm turns on. you have to activate the Alarm. Then you cant really move it.
or you could charge it with a powerbank to unlock it .-.
wow 4 mins.. and it broke first ... guess im not buying this crap
4min is actually really impressive, especially considering him using an angle grinder.
