This performance was recorded live in the concert hall on Rory Feek's farm in Columbia, Tennessee. Rory hosted the show. Most know him of the husband/wife duo. Joey and Rory. The full names of each of these men in this lineup for those who don't know and might be interested are: Jimmy Fortune (The lead singer with the incredible voice on this performance. Formerly with the Statler Brothers) Bradley Walker (The man in the back singing low harmony. He is a DOVE Award-winner with a strong following in country, gospel and bluegrass) Mike Rogers (The man in the front near Jimmy, playing guitar and singing high harmony. Formerly with the band, Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver) Ben Isaacs (The man playing the standup bass and singing middle harmony, He produced this show. He is from the singing family group, The Isaacs )
All four of these guys are remarkable together and Jimmy Fortune is like a fine wine, he only gets better with age! Oh and they finally thought of a name for the group, they are known now as “Brothers of the Heart.” Please check out some of their other tunes. Not a bad one in the bunch!😉
An absolutely beautiful rendition of this J.D Souther song. Great job!!! LOVE IT! These guys are veteran bluegrass and gospel singers. Very talented group of men! Jimmy Fortune, the singer was a member of the Statler Brothers for a time. He's excellent!
Oh my goodness, love that you discovered Fortune’s voice and all the others. I love when he plays songs he did with The Statler Brothers, harmony from heaven!
Unbelievable! I was ready to dismiss this, because I never believed that anyone could sing this better than J.D. Souther. This is one of my all time favorite songs. I did not realize that the Fortune in the names given was The Jimmy Fortune! Who is also an all time favorite of mine. Thank you so much for reacting to this version. But, I do sincerely hope that you will also react to the original J.D, Souther version. It gives me chills. And if you want to react to more Jimmy Fortune, try "Elizabeth" by the Statler Brothers. OMG!
A Super group as super as any super group assembled. They now own the name Brother of the Heart. Too many Brotherly Loves out there. Check out "Elizabeth" written by Fortune for the Startlers.
Phil Everly and Jackson Browne helped J.D. Souther out with the harmony on the 1979 original. Fortune, et al., do a wonderful job with this excellent cover.
You're right Mike! I looked at Wikipedia and it said 3 of the Eagles also sang on the harmonies. And I agree, this is an excellent cover! I'd say they did J.D. Souther proud!
Jimmy Fortune is probably the best singer I have ever heard ! He was the best thing to happen to the Statler brothers in my opinion ,I have been a Hugh fan of his since he started with them and there is nothing he can’t sing ! I will never understand why he didn’t top the charts once he went solo ! He has the voice of an Angel ! Love you Jimmy !
That is Jimmy Fortune with the pitch perfect voice…. He was one of the singers of the group “The Statler Brothers” The group is now retired. I’ve always loved his voice! So glad you’re reacting to this new group…. You should listen to more of their amazing music. Love your reactions!!🙏🙂
Thank you so much for this reaction Harri. I didn't provide the year the song was originally done but I'm glad you went back and saw the note with the request that this was a cover of the J.D. Souther classic "You're Only Lonely" and that it is the 'best' cover I have ever heard of this song! (You had me fooled there for about 8 minutes, lol.) The reason I requested it is because it is live and the sound and video quality is fantastic and these men did a flat out fantastic job on it!. As for background on the song itself, it was done in 1979 actually. J.D. Souther (John David Souther) is known for his songwriting for Linda Ronstadt, the Eagles and others, This was his one hit as a solo artist. Thanks again!
Jimmy Fortune tenor absolutely fantastic voice and good man. Was with Statlers Brothers for 21 years. From late 1981 until they retired in 2002. Then he went on his own. Statlers started in 1960’s.
Jimmy Fortune (the Voice) spent over 20 years with The Statler Brothers and then he went solo when they retired. The gentleman on the bass fiddle is part of the southern gospel family group The Issacs. The other gentleman with a guitar is Mike Roders who has been around country music for quite a long time as well. I don't know much about Mr. Walker other than he has a beautiful bass voice. Check out their version of the Statler Brothers hits "Elizabeth" and the "Class of '57 " Thanks for doing this reaction!
J. D. (John David) Souther wrote this. I remember hearing this song in 1979 and being blown away! He co-wrote many of the Eagles' hits. I finally got my hands on his album "You're Only Lonely" in the late '80s. There were other songs there that IMHO should have been chart toppers. Take a listen to his songs "If You Don't Want My Love" and "White Rhythm and Blues", and "Last in Love".
Hi I just stumbled upon this channel. Jimmy fortune is one of the greatest and purest voices I have ever heard. All 4 men are great friends and came together at the idea of Ben Isaacs to form a quartet for a project and it looks like they may very well be a more permanent fixture.. I am almost certain that they are going by Brotherly Love OR The Brotherly Love Project. They have an album out of that same name Brotherly Love.
Harri, I had thought about requesting the J.D. Souther version but I could only find one upload and I didn't want to take a chance it would be blocked because I really, really wanted you to hear this song and react to it. And these guys 'more' than did the song justice! It literally brought tears to my eyes when I first heard this video. They did such a beautiful job on what is one of my all time favorite songs! If you try to do the J.D. Souther version at a later date I'll definitely be looking forward to your reaction! :-)
Dang! What a great cover. Totally wasn't expecting it to be this good. EXCELLENT! Right before you said "perfect pitch" I was thinking it. That's what they say about JD Souther's voice too. I was waiting for that last note with fingers crossed cuz that's stuff of the masters but he nailed it. 🔨💥 Great reaction! 👏 Maybe you can do JD Southers version too. He's a musician's musician. That's the highest ranking among artists.
Jimmy Fortune has a fantastic voice. He has been around along time he was with the Statler Bros. for years . This is better than the original by JD.Souther and I very rarely say a cover is better.
The writer of this song, JD Souther, was Linda Ronstadt’s boyfriend for awhile and wrote or co-wrote many songs for her and the Eagles. He did his own version of this and had some charting success with it. I think it’s a beautiful song. Great reaction. 🌺✌️
JD Souther wrote this. One of the best voices in the 70s. Wrote/cowrote several songs for Linda ronstadt in the 70s. Please watch the Laurel Canyon documentary which has wonderful footage of Linda and great little clips of how they worked together.
If you love Jimmy Fortunes voice listen to the Statler Brothers, he was their tenor for 20+ years until they retired in 2003. Try their “Class of ‘57”…..you’ll love it.
This came out in 1979 written and recorded by JD Souther, I was 33. Thank you for this blessed group who covered it. Love Linda N. Calif. Oh I forgot to mention, the lead singer Jimmy Fortune sang for many years with the Statler Brothers.
Oh please for God's sake, do the original by JD Souther. He wrote and recorded it in 1979. JD was a co-songwriter with the Eagles. Total Orbison inspiration.
Yes! Harri should definitely do the original, being the Roy Orbison fan he is. That said, this rendition has an Eagles like vibe to it. It would’ve fit perfectly in the ‘Hell Freezes Over’ unplugged session.
Jimmy began as replacement for Lee Dewitt in late 1981 early 82. Lee was sick. He tried to come back but health was to bad. Jimmy became permanent with them mid 82.
j.d souther in 1979 had a big hit with this. raul malo covered it in the 90's ?. jimmy covered it in 2000 ? all three did a fantastic job of singing this beautiful song. thanks for posting harry.
the songs from 1979 Bro. .. J. D. Souther who wrote songs for the eagles and others had hit with it 79, this is an awesome cover though .. if you hear the original you'll realize that
I have requested it before, but since you mention great LIVE vocal performances, I'll try again. Please give a listen to How Great Thou Art by Carrie Underwood featuring Vince Gill. It will melt your soul...
Blessed. Jimmy Fortune is blessed by our Creator. There is no such thing as luck.
Roy would be proud...Stellar version...

All four of these guys are remarkable together and Jimmy Fortune is like a fine wine, he only gets better with age! Oh and they finally thought of a name for the group, they are known now as “Brothers of the Heart.” Please check out some of their other tunes. Not a bad one in the bunch!😉
Wow! I am genuinely blown away by how good these guys sound on this song!! They did J.D. Souther proud without a doubt! And great reaction Harri!
An absolutely beautiful rendition of this J.D Souther song. Great job!!! LOVE IT! These guys are veteran bluegrass and gospel singers. Very talented group of men! Jimmy Fortune, the singer was a member of the Statler Brothers for a time. He's excellent!
Beautiful job ,i get goose bumps listening to it . I remember the original which was also great , listen to that keyboard player .
Such wonderful harmony. Brotherly Love is a beautiful Blessing from our Lord.
Oh my goodness, love that you discovered Fortune’s voice and all the others. I love when he plays songs he did with The Statler Brothers, harmony from heaven!

FORTUNE/WALKER/ROGER/ISAACS version of Love will keep us alive is stunning. Same venue. Actually all of their songs are awesome.
Jimmy Fortune is probably the best singer I have ever heard ! I will never understand why he didn’t top the charts once he went solo ! He has the voice of an Angel ! Love you Jimmy !
This song blew me away when I first heard it. Four great voices !!!
Not many people will attempt hitting those high notes in a live performance!! Perfect!!
The lead singer here is Jimmy Fortune-if you would like to hear more, try The Statler Brothers doing Elizabeth.
Charles, he actually does "Elizabeth" during this show as well. Sounded Fantastic!
Get this cd. These guys are fantastic! And Elizabeth version that Jimmy Fortune wrote and made #1 with the Statlers is even better with these guys!
Love that song Elizabeth and The Statler Bros!

Not from the sixties. J.D.Souther which it great but Jimmy Fortune does it equally well if not better!! This song gives me chills!!!!
One of the best things about their track is the what the piano adds to the overall sound.
They do have beautiful voices. I agree it is Orbison inspired. J.D. Sother wrote and did the original.
This is a great version
sure is a good cover
Written by J.D Souther who also had the 1st hit version of the song taking to to #7 in 1979. These guys blend so nicely.
Luvly harmonies here...Thank you for this my friend

Elizabeth is a great song and by the way Jimmy Fortune is the songwriter of it!

everything these guys do is magic...country / gospel roots

That said, this rendition has an Eagles like vibe to it. It would’ve fit perfectly in the ‘Hell Freezes Over’ unplugged session.
Yeah, you gotta see JD himself. Even the Farm Aid wind and squeaking speakers JD Southern himself blows you away!
Check out " I Believe " Jimmy Fortune , Vincent and Daley . You'll love it ! Good job my man !
What a surprise to know that it was written back in 1979 and Jimmy started out with the Statler brothers back in the late 1980’s
Jimmy began as replacement for Lee Dewitt in late 1981 early 82. Lee was sick. He tried to come back but health was to bad. Jimmy became permanent with them mid 82.

You should listen to 'Crying.' It will blow you away 😊
j.d souther in 1979 had a big hit with this. raul malo covered it in the 90's ?. jimmy covered it in 2000 ? all three did a fantastic job of singing this beautiful song. thanks for posting harry.
J.D. Souther also sang this song, I think in the 80's.
He also did a great job on this song.
JD Souther was the one who wrote it - 1979
Jimmy Fortune sang with the Statler brothers before this.
Song is done by JD Souther. Had a career of his own and wrote some songs for the Eagles.
Brothers of the Heart. Jimmy Fortune former member of Statler Brothers. He has many accolades to his name
the songs from 1979 Bro. .. J. D. Souther who wrote songs for the eagles and others had hit with it 79, this is an awesome cover though .. if you hear the original you'll realize that
You need to listen to their song "Where No One Stands Alone" It will bring tears to your eyes.
Their version of Elizabeth is great.
That lead singer joined the Statler Brothers late in their careers and made them even better than before.
J D Souther’s the writer and it was his version I heard first way back when
You need to hear their live version of Cryin from the same performance.
I think the lead singer in this band is, a gospel singer.
listen to jimmy with the statler brothers...he was their tenor singer for 20yrs..❤❤❤
NO ONE CAN DUPLICATE THE ORIGINAL BY JD SOUTHER.
❤❤❤
The original is done by J D Souther ..its from the early 70's...awsome song..
Late seventies 1979 to be precise.
Jimmy Fortune sang a song my son wrote.
This song was written as a tribute to Roy orbison
Great song I'd only done by JD Souther. but agree it's a beautiful cover.
Everly Brothers late sixties or earlier
J.D. Sother first recorded this. I am not sure about Roy Orbison
You are correct D Rice. Souther is a huge fan of Roy O and I would say this was sort of an homage to Roy by J.D. And what a great one it is!
Words every woman wants to hear her man say to her. ❤❤❤❤
Just souther sang this first. His is my favorite
Written by j d southern and sung by hlm
This is a great performance but you must hear JD Souther the writer and original recording.
Each of these guys belong to different bands..
First released May 1960
I have requested it before, but since you mention great LIVE vocal performances, I'll try again. Please give a listen to How Great Thou Art by Carrie Underwood featuring Vince Gill. It will melt your soul...

Jimmy Fortune use to sing with the statler Brothers he could sing with the Eagles his voice is that good.
