I miss the 80's with a serious heartache.

I've always felt that this was probably John Williams most underrated score. This was one of my favorite movies as a child. It came at just the right moment when Americans were still shock from the Challenger disaster. Far fetched it was. But, it was a nice dream.

strawnobi I agree completely. Love this movie so much. 2:58...."My God, we have lift off." John Williams has many peers, but zero equals!!!

strawnobi - You perfectly worded my sentiments about the score and movie. And I'm sure many more would agree.

Rip Kelly Preston as Tish in July 12,2020. With Lea Thompson as Katherine in the Space Camp movie in June 6,1986.

It came as a shock to me that Spielberg had nothing to do with SpaceCamp because it has every earmark of being one of his 80's classics. You have the brilliant and moving score by John Williams, you have Lea Thompson in it, you have Spielberg's wife, Kate Capshaw in it, it's about outer space and features a cast of young stars. And, yet, he was off making Empire of the Sun when this came out.

      Kate Capshaw OWNED that role!
I still weep when she says to Catherine, "Someday you’re going up. And the only way you will is if you have every drill down better than everyone else. There’s no room for mistakes. Every ‘I’ dotted, every ‘T’ crossed. That’s the way I learned it. That’s the way you’ll learn it. You copy?"

9:51...wonderful transition. John Williams to me is the best overall film composer as his music captures all the emotions of the human psyche ! Amazing!

6:00 one of the most uneventful things in the history of technology....powering up a computer terminal. But here John Williams makes it one of the largest moments ever filmed.

John Williams music so often consists of countles singular pieces each of which easily could be used as their own theme

I've always felt this film was badly underrated. But then, coming on the heels of the tragedy of the CHALLENGER it's to be expected. RIP CHALLENGER and COLUMBIA crews. Also the same to Kelly Preston

I watched this movie all the time on vhs as a kid. I'm a little bit younger than Joquim (Leaf) Phoenix, so I loved his character and the robot. In second grade, I was home from school sick the day of the Challenger loss. I watched the Challenger launch and explode on TV at home, the eerie silence of the reporters after that instantaneous puff in the sky like a popcorn kernel and the boosters flying off to the sides, I'll never forget it! My classmates all saw it in class together. Really tragic, Reagan's speech was good, and this movie added a lot of lost hope that year. Terrible, the loss of Columbia in 2003 as well, many people have forgotten that one too! This soundtrack is used when highlighting segments on oscars, I hear it every once in a while and recognize it.
